...While looking for a new washing machine I decided I wanted one with a large enough drum to take a double duvet, this was a priority for me as I was fed-up taking my duvets every so often to the dry cleaner's, Apart from the effort of taking them there, I was spending extra money when I could be washing them myself. In addition to a larger drum I was looking for a machine with a spin speed of up to 1600. To save a lot of time I checked online first to see if there were any sales on and found that Curry's were having a massive sale. They were selling a lot of machines with a washload of between 5 and 6 kg with spin speeds of up 1600. ...Christmas, and January is not exactly the best time for capital purchases in this household. However, I had decided that whatever we chose, it must have a better spin than the old one, as that was really its weakest point. To be fair, it was reasonably well specified when it was new 12 years ago, but that just shows the rate of progress since. I had narrowed the choice down to three machines, the most expensive of which (a Bosch) had the slowest spin, but had the largest drum and was probably the best made. A Zanussi was also on the shortlist, but my partner made the final choice on the basis of something I hadn't even considered - alone of the three, the Ariston had a program dial with standard wash numbers on it! ...had taken over the warranty. Where had I bought the replacement machine from? Currys... their timing was amazing). So I needed a new washing machine. Merry Christmas. Not to worry though... my wardrobe managed to hold out until the January sales and a Sunday afternoon visit to Currys quickly sorted the matter. On display was the glorious Ariston 1635 washing machine. boasting a spin-speed of 1,600 rpm and the woolmark gold sticker for it's "handwash" performance, it was rated 'a' for both energy efficiency and wash performance, with the spin performance managing a perfectly respectable 'b' rating. Sporting more dials than i could comfortably shake a stick at, a maximum load of 5.5kg, a whopping 10 wash programmes (not including the variations induced by the numerous buttons) and a groovy door that swung open to a full 180degrees... Advantages: 1,600 spin speed, very quiet, great value, washes and rinses really well, so easy to use, large 6kg wash load.
Disadvantages: Some programmes last a bit too long, keeps redistributing the load even when only slightly unbalanced.

...I bought my Ariston A1636 from currys in may 2005 for £269.98 including delivery. It was in a sale, £150 off. So it was originally £419.98 including delivery. When it first came out at currys in 2004 it was £519.98 including delivery so I got it for just over half price. An absolute bargain. The things that attracted me were it's fast spin, the reports of Ariston being a reliable make and the fact that the A1636 model uses the same Brushless induction motor that the hotpoint super silent models use. On a wash cycle you can't hear it working at all (47 decibels maximum) and on the fastest spin I wouldn't call it super silent, but It is almost certainly quieter than 95% of Washing machines on the market, even though at 1,600 rpm, it is one of the fastest. The only washer that is quieter on the spin cycle is An LG direct drive washer... Read review

...The title is of course a suggestion from my 18 month old :o) I recently went for some three weeks without a washing machine and had to make countless trips to the local laundrette with my lad in tow. Much to the laundrette lady's disgust I could hardly strap my son in his pushchair for hours at a time so he took great pleasure in examining the washing machines up close and deciding what it is they do; he even got to wash his cookie monster. He has since taken a great interest in the washing machine at home and was seizing every available opportunity to "wash" his things (be they his cookie monster, dirty socks or half full cup of milk). So when I had to go to Toys R Us recently to purchase a second stair gate (he's figured out how to open his bedroom door - at 5am), I decided to look for a little washing machine all of his own... Advantages: It works!
Disadvantages: it needs a very solid floor

...We have solved the problem and it WAS NOT to do with the machine! It turns out that old victorian floors have too much bounce in them for this machine. These machines are happiest on solid concrete floors. We were going to move it to another place in the kitchen, but our local washing machine repair man (who is a genius) came up with another suggestion. The machine currently sits in the corner of the room, so he made a platform of thick wood (several sheets screwed together) and bracketed it to the skirting. The walls are a lot more solid than the floors, this means that the machine base is attatched to the walls and operates perfectly. We still get the odd unbalancing problem but nothing like before. Advantages: easy to use,great range of programmes, quiet, long guarantee

...This washing machine changed my life! Okay, I'm comparing it with a 20 year old hotpoint, my last machine, but this has been a revelation. THere are a great range of different programmes on the dial, and I actually use them, rather than just sticking with the same one all the time. The best is the 30 minute wash, very useful. When you select a programme, the readout shows the time that it will take and counts down after you've started it up which I like. You can make an alteration to the programme you've selected like delayed start or different spin speed. Strangely though, if the programme has a spin speed of say 900, you can't select a higher speed, only lower, which annoys me, but once it's finished I will then select spin only which takes 10 minutes, so pretty quick. ...Our washing machine is, without a doubt, the second hardest working thing in our house (after me, obviously..lol) so when our previous, and somewhat geriatric machine suddenly died on us without warning, a replacement was sought without delay. My research as far as choosing a new machine was unscientific - I drove to our nearest Curry's and asked them to show me what they had in stock that I could take away there and then. I had a few to choose from and after deliberating for all of five minutes on the comparative features and prices, I ended up with the Ariston A1637 in the boot of the Passat. ...), hey presto, open the soap dispenser (which swings out on a hinge to the left of the machine) and there, on a bit of plastic that comes out over top of the dispenser, is a repeat of the wash settings that you find in the instruction manual (which, by the way, is very clear and easy to use). So you can always find, at a glance, the optimum setting for what you are washing. RESULTS We have used most if not all cycles by now. We tend to use Ecover liquid wash, and have excellent results all round. Sometimes a stain remover is needed, but the AWD12 gets the clothes clean reliably. OTHER ISSUES It is very quiet.It emits a low-pitched humming or whining noise, but it is by far the quietest washer we've ever owned. Ariston is perhaps not the best-known of brands, but it is part of the giant Merloni group, which is a big player in Europe... Read review

...My old (well 4 years old to be precise) washing machine finally packed in at the start of the year, so off I went to find a replacement and decided to also get rid of the tumble dryer and go for a combined washer/dryer. After several hours going through the online stores and visiting the local Currys electrical retailer, I finally decided on the Ariston A1400WD - and glad I did! Firstly I managed to get free delivery and disposal of my old machine from the sales assistant and Currys also had £120 knocked off the price in their sale. Delivery Delivery was on a Saturday. I had to phone a national rate number on the Friday night when I would be told a 4 hour slot for delivery.
