COMPAQ ARMADA! I see no ships

Advantages: Light weight tiny Laptop
Disadvantages: As it 2 or 3 years old a bit slow

...We bought the Compaq Armada M300 as a Christmas present for our 13 year old daughter, mainly for 2 reasons, to run Microsoft Encarta to enable her to do her HOMEWORK! And to run the Sims, she?d been asking for this for about 2 years and we were loathed to load it on the family?s computer for fear that nobody else would get a look in! The Computer, we found on E-Bay for £145 plus £18 postage, we were not particularly looking for a Compaq, but rather any Laptop that had a processor that met the Sims minimum requirement ( that being PII 300). The Compaq far surpassed that! And so we went ahead and made the purchase via Paypal on Sunday night and much to our delight it arrive at 7.30am on Tuesday morning. The only problem, now was that the standard Compaq Armada comes without any external Drives and so we set about finding a CD...

My Xmas Suprise!!

Advantages: everything!!
Disadvantages: a bit slow for playing the action games!

...For Christmas this year I was expecting a PS2 as I wanted to have The Sims and my parents wouldn?t let me have it on the PC downstairs. So Christmas morning I got up at 4:30 and when I opened the Compaq Armada M300 I was absolutely flabbergasted!! The reason they said they got it for me was because I could do my homework on it as well as The Sims. (I got The Sims triple deluxe!) And if I had The Sims on the PC downstairs no-one would get a go, which is probably true! ~~~THE LOOKS~~~ This is a very small black laptop with a touch pad mouse, which I found very difficult to use to start off with, a greyish tinted keyboard with an 800x600 TFT active matrix screen. Sailing with my Armada

Advantages: light & inexpensive
Disadvantages: a mouse with a mind of its own

...I've owned my Compaq Armada 7400 for nearly a year now. I bought it second hand off ebay because I needed a computer that was portable and light with a decent amount of grunt (and that wasn't too expensive) to take with me when traveling overseas. (They are currently selling for about £150 – 200 on ebay – obviously prices vary depending on the optional extras and the competition!) The specs of my system are: 400 MHz Pentium II 128 MB RAM 10 GB Hard Drive DVD-ROM Drive Internal 56K modem In addition to the above I purchased an Ethernet card for home networking as this did not come standard with the machine. The computer I bought didn't come with a Floppy Drive either (although you can get them with floppy drive built in) and I have considered getting one since as I don't have a desk top computer to download...

Star Trek Armada - Engage this game

Advantages: Game play, Story line, Graphics
Disadvantages: None

...The story line of Star Trek Armada is where the Borg have come to take over the Alpha Quadrant and gain the Omega particle. The player gets to choose from four campaigns which are the Federation, Klingon, Romulan and of cause the Borg. Each campaign is meant to be happening at the same time as one another. The Federation campaign begins with the USS Enterprise E going into an almost destroyed section where starbases are damaged and ships are uncrewed. So from this the player needs to gather up the ships for use until an unexpected attack by borg vessels. From here on out the mission is to destroy the Borg. I think this mission is the easiest to play however as you pass each mission it does get harder and harder. This mission also has the USS Preminition introduced where it has travelled back into the past to warn the Federation...

Groove Armada, A groove for everybody

Advantages: Great laid back groovy beats, consistently good tunes
Disadvantages: long intros

...With this album, Groove Armada seemed to be saying 'We've arrived' rather than we've finished. The poster advertising the CD says it all. Most people love their tunes but the music is so diverse that they've never picked up that they're by the same people. Groove Armada have been stealthily making their name over a number of years, starting out with the very chilled 'At the River' and 'If everybody looked the same'. What marks them out is their timeless happy music which evokes hot summer nights out with your mates. Great beats to get your feet tapping and your mood lifted, but not so heavy that you feel you're in a club with a bunch of charvas (yes I grew up in newcastle where we knew about charva's /chav's whatever 10 years ago). ...The compaq Armada 1530D laptops have been out about 5 or 6 years now, first entering the market back in 1998, so its worth considering this throughout my review; this laptop is nothing compared with todays machines. I bought the laptop used about one year ago, I needed a simple machine for word processing at home, and decided it would be nice to socialise whil working (now I can sit in front of the telly with the family while I do my work) At £200 it was a bargain, the truth is they are even cheaper on ebay now, I've seen them go as little as £100. But of course, your not going to get an amazing machine for under £200. These laptops really are basic and have minimum specs. Disadvantages: only 4 races to choose from

You can also play this game in multiplayer via LAN or Internet so you can destroy your friend?s armadas and egos. There are also tons of missions to do such as save the enterprise, do not let the enterprise be destroyed, do not let warfs ship be destroyed, do not let locutus be destroyed, umm destroy all enemy ships and bases in the area and many more, also the missions are quite difficult so you wont be able to finish them very quickly unless you cheat!!! I bought this game for about £6.00 in HMV which was a real bargain I thought and I?m sure you would probably to unless its gone down by now? But I would recommend this game to any one who enjoys...

Star Trek: Armada - the Omega Particle of gaming

Advantages: Excellent graphics, involving gameplay
Disadvantages: Limited number of ships

...Star Trek: Armada is, to put it quite frankly, a masterpiece. It has excellent graphics, five campaigns (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg and a special "Finale" set of missions), four races, each with both familiar ships from the Star Trek series (e.g. the Sovereign, Defiant, and of course the Borg Cube) and also several new vessels (e.g. the Romulan Shadow class). The game also has an involving storyline. After watching the impressive intro movie, which shows the return of the Omega Particle, Locutus of Borg, Romulan Admiral Sela and would-be Klingon usurper Toral, you get to choose from one of the four initial campaigns, or an Instant Action/Multiplayer mode. Advantages: More User friendly and more interactive
Disadvantages: Very Time Consuming for a game with little addded new features.

...Star trek armada 2 was expected to be the next generation in trek aming but it most certainly did not live that title while it definitely has many features that are fun to play with (saucer separtion, new super weapons, species 8472) the fact that very little has changed with the AI and it is still as predictable as armada 1 and does not provide a challenge and when set to hard mode the AI does not improve it just costs less to build things for the AI and everything is quicker and they have more starting resources , this game is fun to play with but is not too great an improvement upon armada 1 as thge borg who are meant to be the greatest threat humanity has ever faced are easily destroyed and species 8472 who outmatch thr boeg can be easily dispatched as well, if you are looking for a game which has trek contniuity then this si...

Advantages: Compact, fast, great screen
Disadvantages: No FDD, short battery life

...MHz processor, which is faster than my desktop PC, and has the same amount of RAM (128Mb). This makes the laptop speedy fast, although some of you with spangly new computers may think I'm barking for thinking this is fast! There is an on-board sound card, which is loud and acceptable for playing CDs. The graphics for those interested is via an 4Mb ATI Rage LT Pro, which may or may not be a good thing (too technical for me!) but does it's job very nicely.
