A Walk around the Walker Art Gallery
Advantages: The Art! The Architecture! Fully accessible for all! Free entry!
Disadvantages: Very Tiring.
...The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool boasts one of the largest art collections in England. My 12 year old niece chose this as a venue for a day out in the school holidays. It had been some years since I visited previously and I had quite forgotton just how impressive it is. We had a lovely (and tiring) day and my niece returned home inspired.
As you approach the gallery situated on William Brown Street, you are struck by the sheer grandeur of the gallery and its neighbouring buildings. William Brown street is the only street in Great Britain to contain nothing but than Museums, Galleries and Libraries. Directly outside the Walker Art Gallery is the grand Steble fountain , a circular stone basin with a bronze centrepiece depicting the four seasons ? a good photo opportunity.
The Walker Art Gallery has a neo-classical façade...

York Art Gallery
Advantages: Free
Disadvantages: Small collection
...York has a plethora of art galleries, mostly in private hands and some under municipal control. York art gallery, located in exhibition square, in the centre of York, is a York City Council owned gallery, and has recently been refurbished to the tune of nearly half a million pounds, from the heritage lottery fund and was reopened a couple of months ago by the city's Lord Mayor.
The collection features works spanning 600 years from British and European art displayed in themed areas under the headings of people, places, stories, devotion, and morality. This is an interesting way of organising the works on display, and a seemingly increasing trend amongst gallery collections over recent decades, one that I first experienced at the Tate Modern in London.
The Tate Modern were the first major collection in this country, to my knowledge...

The Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield
Advantages: Free Entry, Good Exhibits
Disadvantages: On The Third Floor, Lifts Not Always Working
...The Graves Art Gallery is one of several Galleries in Sheffield that is owned by the City Council and because of this access is and always has been free. It is located right in the heart of Sheffield City Centre, above the City's Library on the third floor, just around the corner from one of the City's other Galleries, the Millennium Galleries. Together these two Galleries now form a part of the City's Tudor Square Cultural Complex.
The Graves Art Gallery was founded in 1934 through the generosity of a local entrepreneur called Alderman J. G. Graves who donated his entire collection of Art to the local Council so that it would be displayed for future generations to see and enjoy.
The collection that Grave's had amassed was an extensive one that stretched from 16th century Paintings right through to Modern Art from the present...

The Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery
Advantages: Free Entry, Lots to see, accesible by disabled
Disadvantages: Unattractive exterior of building
...The rather dull, unattractive facade of the Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery disguises what a real gem of a place this really is inside. This is Doncaster\'s only town centre museum and here you will find a whole range of different artefacts that tell the story of the history of this town back to the Roman times and even further beyond.
The museum is on two different floors, both of which are fully accessible by disabled visitors, and there is a lift to the second floor. In front of the main entrance doors there is a large reception area, which has various leaflets and books relating to the local area. At this point you could be forgiven for thinking that you had walked into the local tourist information centre rather than a museum, but a quick glance around soon reveals several little anterooms, that lead off from this main foyer area...

The Buxton Museum And Art Gallery
Advantages: Lots of history, free
Disadvantages: Closed in Winter, and Mondays during Summer
...Buxton is a beautiful little picturesque town situated right on the fringe of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. It is place that is both picturesque and historic and is well worth a visit.
Any visitor to the town wanting to know a little more about this old Roman Spa town should set an hour or so of their day aside and pay a visit to the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
Admission to this building is completely free, something of a bit of a rarity these days. I visited here a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed.
The Building that houses this Museum has an interesting history of its own. It was built in 1880 and was originally the Peak Hydropathic Hotel.
This Hotel closed in the early 1900's and for a few years stood empty. During the First World War however it was used by the Red Cross as a Hospital and cared...

A Treasure of an Art Gallery
Advantages: Works by major British artists
Disadvantages: A little pricey
...Housing one of the finest collections of modern British art outside of London, Pallant House Gallery is situated in Chichester, close to the cathedral and main shopping centre. Coming myself from a larger city in which I am sure it would be difficult to see the work of a major artist, I was quite astounded to find the Pallant Gallery tucked away in a little side street, yet boasting the ownership of works by Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Eduardo Paolozzi and Frank Auerbach amongst others.
This is a gem of a gallery, and it is no surprise that it was awarded the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year in 2007. At the time of my visit the gallery was holding a temporary exhibition (running until 8th June 2008) centring around Colin St John Wilson, a collector and architect, and another entitled The Artist at Work...

Advantages: Free admission, Lovely interior and building
Disadvantages: Opening times and parking
...Aberdeen Art Gallery is the main art gallery in the City of Aberdeen and was designed by Alexander Marshall McKenzie. It is located in the City centre close to Union Street -the city's main shopping street. The Art Gallery is very easy to find as it is located in Schoolhill which is just off Union street.
The Aberdeen Art Gallery has large collection of displays on the city's rich cultural heritage as well as arts from all over the UK. There is a large collection of works of art, including outstanding examples of Modern Art, which appeals to visitors of all ages.

The Art Gallery
Advantages: A comprehensive history of Art
Disadvantages: Some of you may be Art critics
...Ah welcome, welcome my lovely friends.
And, may I take this opportunity to thank you for visiting one of Belfast's finest Art galleries. At £25.00 for a day ticket, some of you may think the experience a little expensive, however, we in management would urge you to consider the interactive nature of the experience, the fine and salubrious surroundings, the quality of your guide for the day (myself) and the fact that maintaining Art's pipe and slipper costs, regular servicing of his Stannah stairlift, and his 'Help the Aged' day-care nurse does not come cheap.
Before we begin I would urge that those of you of a nervous disposition take some time to calm yourselves, as some of the rooms may unsettle you. Also, 3D glasses will be provided in the rooms as necessary, so that you can fully enjoy the Art on offer. Healthy food...

Fab and free day out!
Advantages: free entry, wonderful paintings and sculptures, childrens section, beautiful architecture
Disadvantages: None whatsoever!
...The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool
The Walker Art Gallery has been standing in Liverpool for over 130 years. It is home to so many wonderful paintings -old and new-, sculptures and crafts. There is even a musical instrument made from an old toilet and some fantastic modern chairs which you are allowed to sit on! You get to experience all this and more in this wonderful art gallery, for absolutely free!
I visited the gallery with my family yesterday, Sunday 16th August, with my family and started writing this review last night when I had been home a couple of hours, so the experience was fresh in my mind.
I've realised that my reviews on this are mainly make up and body products related, so I thought maybe I should review this to get them a bit more varied so there's something everyone will hopefully find interesting...

An Art Gallery not to be missed
Advantages: not too big
Disadvantages: none
...The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool is one art gallery which even a non-art lover would find a pleasure to visit. The reason for this is because it is just the right size, almost perfect I would say, for someone to enjoy looking at the beautiful works of art without getting tired of having to walk through too many rooms and floors. Aside from its physical advantages, the Walker is also home to some excellent paintings and sculptures. Although it has been many years since I visited the place, I still remember vividly a painting which hangs on the wall at the top of the main stairs. It is a very iluminating picture of a mother and her child, the image of which, has stayed with me till this day. The little gallery shop has a wide range of postcards of the paintings that you see in there as well as other small collectibles. If you should get...
