Advantages: Nice thought, and a good place in which to think it
Disadvantages: Not much to see, except perhaps on April 1st

...stream, overhung by beeches and willows, and it forms a loop around the 60 hectares (148 acres) of U?upis, a name that translates as "on the other side of the river". Somehow, the district seems even smaller than this. Passing the sign that tells you you are entering the republic, you cross the main bridge and soon come to a crossroads decorated by the statue of an angel on a column (see pic above). This is the town centre, insofar as it has one. Ahead, a street flanked by some handsome, if rather dilapidated, period houses heads uphill, and five minutes walk that way will take you out of U?upis at the top. Exploring down the streets to either side you can find a few side-alleys, back yards, apartment blocks of various vintages, a cemetery and a school, possibly an art school, with some sculpture in its garden beside the river...

Republic of quality clothing.

Advantages: nice variety of quality clothes and mega fast delivery.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are too expensive

...with paypal. I don't mind using a credit card, but it is so much quicker than entering all your details and numbers. You can also pay with a card if you prefer or if you don't have paypal, but I do recommend that you get it. The dress came just two days after she bought it which I thought was nice and fast. The packaging had republic on it so I knew what it was and the dress was lovely. I am very pleased with the quality of their clothing and their speedy delivery. I also recieved an email-reciept and they told me when the order had been dispatched so they really do have great communication skills so you always know what is happening. The dress wasn't creased and she put it on straight away because they had folded it nicely with her reciept in the bag. Cabarete - Dominican Republic (north)

Advantages: nice relaxing holiday, friendly people, great weather.
Disadvantages: hassle by the beach vendors, some shop keepers and time share people

...We have just spent two fabulous weeks in Cabarete on the North coast of Dominican Republic, and I want to tell you all about it. We flew with Thomson and it cost us approx £600 each. Spending money, we probably spent around £400, not including our diving course. First off a bit of geography, DomRep occupies one half of the island of Hispaniola. One of the larger islands in the Caribean. The other half of it being Haiti. It is approximately 8 1/2 hrs away from the UK, but is well worth the time taken to get there. Remember hurricane Jeanne, of September 2004 hitting and devastating Haiti and Dom Rep, well we got there about 7 days after she did expecting to find devestation and in fact had wanted to cancel our holiday, but didn't as we would have lost all our money. Review of General: Dominican Republic

The Art of Death

Advantages: Good second half, some interesting details
Disadvantages: Clunky plot, a bit meandering

...halfway through it was much better. The main character is Adelia - "The Mistress of the Art of Death" - i.e a forensic pathologist. Her struggle to conceal her profession is quite prominent in the plot as female doctors were unusual in the twelfth century. She is helping Simon of Naples discover the killer through the clues left on the bodies of the victims. I found this quite interesting although I'm not sure how realistic it would be in the twelfth century. The plot does wander a bit as it is so concerned with Adelia and her origins and training. The character of Rowley (the King's so-called tax inspector) is ok but the romance seems to have been thrown in as a bit of an afterthought and didn't add anything to the story for me. ...I had already read about The Republic Bier Halle on the net so, when doing a spot of Christmas shopping in Glasgow, I was thinking less about 'The first Noël' and more about 'Bush Noël' (it's a beer). The Republic opened in October 1999, a welcome change to the usual, ubiquitous, trendy bars in central Glasgow and is going from strength to strength. Recently the owner, Colin Barr (now there's a name to suit a chosen occupation!), opened a new bar in Glasgow's south-side called The Bier Stube. He has plans to open another in Sauchiehall St., and one in Edinburgh (can't come soon enough) with more to follow. The bar can be hard to find but it needn't be. It is situated at 9 Gordon St., just a few metres off Buchanan St., Glasgow's main pedestrianized shopping thoroughfare. It could be easy to miss as there's only a doorway...

Plato-The Republic

Advantages: Worth reading for anyone interested in Politics or Philosophy
Disadvantages: A little longwinded

...The republic is a unique and slightly unusual book in terms of written presentation. The book is academic in one sense, with Plato presenting his views and opinions on governance to the reader, yet he implies a more typically fictional style to do so. His ideas are presented through a conversation, veering on argument, where his characters talk around particular points. invariably the characters come round to Plato's (though his views are presented via Socrates) viewpoint. In some ways it makes the republic slightly longwinded, however it is easy to read, and not to heavy so I am undecided whether I like his choice of presentation. In terms of content, the republic is a key text for anyone interested in philosophy or politics and looks into the quest for a perfect society with perfect governance.
