Advantages: Good graphics, very involving
Disadvantages: Disturbing, far too long

...appearance of the film was very artificial but also had that Spielberg look about it. The graphics were really impressive, and I suppose it is already obvious that most of what you are seeing is CGI and not real, so that accepted it was well done. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of this style of film-making, but perhaps I ought to be more open to different things! The film is very vibrant yet somehow this still didn't stop me finding it depressing. I have to admit I have no recollection of the soundtrack whatsoever, and I think music was pretty sparse in this film. Classification The classification for this film is 12, and I find it very hard to comment on this. There was violence in the film, but it was mostly committed against the "Mecha" - or robot people, so somehow it was quite surreal. I still felt it was inappropriate...

Artificial and Superficial

Advantages: Haley Joel Osment is unnervingly good; Jude Law!
Disadvantages: Banal, cloying story and score, no insight, contrived plot, derivative, tedious, etc....hell, where's Stanley?

...(Pls. see note following review) Methinks Stanley Kubrick's name in the title credits is all that has anything remotely to do with Kubrick. Having said that, there is nothing new or interesting or intelligent that Steven Spielberg offers us in ?A. I.: Artificial Intelligence?. Yes, I chuckled at, oh, some two minutes' worth of film time (and felt them to be inappropriate, nonetheless), and relished every second the beauteous, if waxy-looking, Jude Law (?The Talented Mr. Ripley? and most recently, ?Cold Mountain) was onscreen .   Artfully intelligent but awfully indulgent

Advantages: Intelligent, thought-provoking, great special effects
Disadvantages: Disjointed plot, somewhat derivative

....) The direction is perhaps the most controversial talking point. I felt I couldn't really connect with the characters, there was an emotional distance there, which was actually more reminiscent of Kubrick. There are great moments as always and despite the slow pace I was not aware of the length of the movie until I read other reviews on it. It was compelling watching to see which way it was going to go. For me, Speilberg made the wrong choices on too many occasions and there is definitely a better film hiding in here trying to get out. But compared to your average no-intelligence-required Hollywood movies this is a work of art. It does make you think and if you're aware of its complexity beforehand you'll probably quite enjoy it. Arty Intelligence

Advantages: Involving. Imaginative. Daring.
Disadvantages: Twenty minutes too long.

...there are a fair few assumptions about the end of this film that are completely wrong. Remembering the key scenes in this story are vital to your acceptance of the dénouement, which does not sit easy (see below). Kubrick was a cold film maker – familial bliss and happy ending were just not his style. Conversely, Spielberg is Mr Sugar and Spice, a sense of warmth may not prevail in every one of his pictures, but there is always hope in his world. So mix cold and hot, and what have you got? Lukewarm. Even so, I went in to this movie with high hopes, and I was not disappointed. Spielberg’s style mixed with Kubrick’s sensibilities is an absolute joy to behold. INSULT TO INTELLIGENCE

Artificial no Intelligence
