A wombling good time at Wimbledon School of Art.
Advantages: International students and extremely good tutors
Disadvantages: Not in Central London
...Applying to Art School? Then I assume you have read most of the information on Central St. Martins, Goldsmiths, probably Glasgow, and maybe even Liverpool; but have you considered wombling off to Wimbledon? If not, then let me tell you of a few of the pros and cons of Wimbledon School of Art ( which is accredited by the University of London).
There are two main buildings at Wimbledon; the Terry Bruen Building is just behind the theatre on Palmerston Road, and this is were you would have your interview and spend your first year, doing your foundation. It is the smaller of the two, but equally well equipped for all of your artistic needs. The foundation year will begin with a general practice couple of months; you will try your hand at sculpture, figure drawing, graphics, fashion, painting, ceramics, theatre design and 3-D design...

Art School in the US of A
Advantages: Excellent faculty, facilities, hoppin' city
Disadvantages: price- (no others)
...As an artist, having gone through various art 'programs', I found The School of the Art Institute of Chicago amongst the best of the best. Upon high school graduation, I went off to the Maryland Institute, College of Art, in Baltimore, MD/ USA. That was an intense program, a very solid foundation, (I was there for 2 yrs.) for drawing and painting, along with sculpture and literature too. However, I was never one to believe that art schools don't need to cater to young artists that may have a more acedemic inclination as well. With that in mind, I was in search of a school with an academic program that was a bit more challenging. I went to a University for a brief stint, but, that was not a good thing because all of a sudden I was going from, small, private art school where I was a painting major, to a HUGE university with an art bldg...

LONDON'S CALLING
Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room
...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29)
Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

Friends For Life - A new Incentive for Primary Education
Advantages: Preparing our children for the stresses of our modern world
Disadvantages: none
...~~~~Friends For Life ~~~~
Prevention of Anxiety & Depression in Children.
(Before you start reading this review - I will warn you that it is a long review, my longest to date, but if you can take on board what is about you will see that this programme can also help adults that find coping with life stressful and sometimes so difficult that they can suffer with depression).
This Primary Education Programme is something new to our school and the area.
For the past 8 weeks I have been privileged to work with the school nurse and her team on a new initiation, from Australia, that helps prevent ?Anxiety and Depression? children. ?What ? Anxiety & Depression in children?? I hear some of you ask. It?s true - recent studies have shown that in today?s fast moving more people...

Snogs in school uniform
Advantages: Easy to pull, fun to dress up, friendly atmosphere
Disadvantages: Queuing and no loo roll
...It's almost impossible to avoid pulling at schooldisco - almost everyone is young, reasonably good-looking and amazingly flirtatious. The school uniform thing probably helps as well, not least because it dissolves inhibitions - when you already look absurdly like an extra from Grange Hill or a Soho sex show, there seems very little point in preserving your dignity. That said, it's also great for a night out with friends - the eighties and seventies hits make everyone feel warm and nostalgic (unless they're incredibly cool and contemptuous towards anything that could be considered cheesy).
The main idea of the club is to dress up in your old school uniform - or, if that was as hideous as mine was or no longer fits, an approximation to the stereotypical school uniform. Most people came in white shirts, stripy ties, and black or grey...

Foundation 2003
Advantages: Lively atmosphere, easy access to resources & support
Disadvantages: Fees!!!
...I studied at my foundation diploma at City & Guilds of London Art School from Sep 2002-May 2003. It was not initially my first choice, mainly due to the fees, I also intended to go for a slightly more reputable and predictable school, such as any of the London Institute schools-ie Chelsea, the infamous Saint Martins, Camberwell etc. However, due to a late application, I chose to apply to City & Guilds which I think without a doubt was ultimately the right choice for me.
The School
--------------------------
City & Guilds is a very unique institution. Situated centrally in a group of Georgian terraced houses in Kennington, London, it is very easy to access art resources from here such as galleries, for example-the Imperial War Museum is a mere 15 minutes walk from the School. Due to the scale of the school-approx 300 students- it has...

School dinners - but bigger portions!
Advantages: Great party atmosphere - a good night out
Disadvantages: Dont expect high quality food!
...Theres a clue in the name here. School dinners bar/restaurant, situated just round the corner from Farringdon tube station in London, is a great venue for your hen/stag/party night out. The theme, as you've guessed is being back at school and if you go there expecting to just have a good night out with your mates you will be dissapointed because you will be forced to have a great night out with everyone in attendance!
From the Eaten boys to the St Trinian girls, from the headmaster Mr R U Tuckman to the headmistress Mrs M E Bedworthy, the costumes and characters are all there and are all good at their roles. Cane in hand the headmaster will tolerate no misbehaving or food fights. Cross his path and you can expect 10 of the best whilst bent over the school desk!
The evening is very well put together. Arriving between 7 and 8 pm...

Educational fun.
Advantages: Versatilty, price.
Disadvantages: The pencil is a little too thin
...This is the first handheld console I have ever owned. I'm 27 years old.
The main reason I purchased the DS was so I could play 'Brain Training Games' or other Educational games. I played on a friends and found it very entertaining, I figured that if I bought one myself I'd challenge myself mentally and wouldn't just sit around watching TV!
The best thing about the DS is the genre of games available for it, similar to the WII - Nintendo decided to target a different audience than the stereotypical gamers. I feel the succeeded in doing so. I read an article that a school had introduced the use of Nintendo DSs into children's mathematics lesson, with results of better learning and improved concentration. I am also a teacher and my children loved testing their knowledge on various maths games.
The feel of the DS is also very nice...

It's art Jim but not as we know it
Advantages: Affordable art
Disadvantages: None
...everything on the market. Then I came across the Affordable Art Fair and problem solved.
The Affordable Art Fair was originally held every year in Battersea Park and has now become so successful that it is held twice a year in London with additional shows in Bristol, New York, Melbourne and Sydney.
I have always attended the Autumn Show and have been for the past three years. This show is held in a large marquee in the centre of the park over 4 days to include a weekend, towards the end of October. The second London show is held in the March.
Getting There
Located in the centre of London you do need to give getting there some thought. If you chose to drive there is very limited parking in the park and during weekdays you will have to pay Uncle Ken?s congestion charge and the event is sign posted around the park.
The nearest tube...

Educating Neelix
Advantages: Training your dog will respond to.
Disadvantages: Might be a bit pricey for some.
...me. He is hugely entertaining in a spacker kind of a way - when presented with the opportunity to play fetch he will work himself into such a frenzy of excitement that he gallops on the spot, cartoon dog style, and then runs headlong into a wall. He is intelligent, although chooses to use his powers for evil.
Training, therefore, was needed. My vet recommended Puppy School after commenting that Neelix was 'quite unlike anything I've ever seen before.' To give a wee bit of history, Puppy School aims to teach puppies and older dogs to behave appropriately around adults, children and other animals using a system of rewards and praise. Each trainer holds the franchise for their area and will hold classes (usually) on the weekend. The trainers are also available for home consultations (more of which later). I have to admit, I was...
