A wombling good time at Wimbledon School of Art.
Advantages: International students and extremely good tutors
Disadvantages: Not in Central London
...Applying to Art School? Then I assume you have read most of the information on Central St. Martins, Goldsmiths, probably Glasgow, and maybe even Liverpool; but have you considered wombling off to Wimbledon? If not, then let me tell you of a few of the pros and cons of Wimbledon School of Art ( which is accredited by the University of London).
There are two main buildings at Wimbledon; the Terry Bruen Building is just behind the theatre on Palmerston Road, and this is were you would have your interview and spend your first year, doing your foundation. It is the smaller of the two, but equally well equipped for all of your artistic needs. The foundation year will begin with a general practice couple of months; you will try your hand at sculpture, figure drawing, graphics, fashion, painting, ceramics, theatre design and 3-D design...

Art School in the US of A
Advantages: Excellent faculty, facilities, hoppin' city
Disadvantages: price- (no others)
...As an artist, having gone through various art 'programs', I found The School of the Art Institute of Chicago amongst the best of the best. Upon high school graduation, I went off to the Maryland Institute, College of Art, in Baltimore, MD/ USA. That was an intense program, a very solid foundation, (I was there for 2 yrs.) for drawing and painting, along with sculpture and literature too. However, I was never one to believe that art schools don't need to cater to young artists that may have a more acedemic inclination as well. With that in mind, I was in search of a school with an academic program that was a bit more challenging. I went to a University for a brief stint, but, that was not a good thing because all of a sudden I was going from, small, private art school where I was a painting major, to a HUGE university with an art bldg...

Friends For Life - A new Incentive for Primary Education
Advantages: Preparing our children for the stresses of our modern world
Disadvantages: none
...~~~~Friends For Life ~~~~
Prevention of Anxiety & Depression in Children.
(Before you start reading this review - I will warn you that it is a long review, my longest to date, but if you can take on board what is about you will see that this programme can also help adults that find coping with life stressful and sometimes so difficult that they can suffer with depression).
This Primary Education Programme is something new to our school and the area.
For the past 8 weeks I have been privileged to work with the school nurse and her team on a new initiation, from Australia, that helps prevent ?Anxiety and Depression? children. ?What ? Anxiety & Depression in children?? I hear some of you ask. It?s true - recent studies have shown that in today?s fast moving more people...

Educational fun.
Advantages: Versatilty, price.
Disadvantages: The pencil is a little too thin
...This is the first handheld console I have ever owned. I'm 27 years old.
The main reason I purchased the DS was so I could play 'Brain Training Games' or other Educational games. I played on a friends and found it very entertaining, I figured that if I bought one myself I'd challenge myself mentally and wouldn't just sit around watching TV!
The best thing about the DS is the genre of games available for it, similar to the WII - Nintendo decided to target a different audience than the stereotypical gamers. I feel the succeeded in doing so. I read an article that a school had introduced the use of Nintendo DSs into children's mathematics lesson, with results of better learning and improved concentration. I am also a teacher and my children loved testing their knowledge on various maths games.
The feel of the DS is also very nice...

Educating Neelix
Advantages: Training your dog will respond to.
Disadvantages: Might be a bit pricey for some.
...me. He is hugely entertaining in a spacker kind of a way - when presented with the opportunity to play fetch he will work himself into such a frenzy of excitement that he gallops on the spot, cartoon dog style, and then runs headlong into a wall. He is intelligent, although chooses to use his powers for evil.
Training, therefore, was needed. My vet recommended Puppy School after commenting that Neelix was 'quite unlike anything I've ever seen before.' To give a wee bit of history, Puppy School aims to teach puppies and older dogs to behave appropriately around adults, children and other animals using a system of rewards and praise. Each trainer holds the franchise for their area and will hold classes (usually) on the weekend. The trainers are also available for home consultations (more of which later). I have to admit, I was...

Schools Out
Advantages: different game modes
Disadvantages: can bore of it quite quickly
...I'm a big fan of the tycoon series of games - mall tycoon, zoo tycoon, casino tycoon etc so I thought that school tycoon would be another game to add to that list. I bought it for £5 at PC world and, at that price, you pretty much can't go wrong!
There are a couple of different modes to this game. There is the story mode, where you have to build a school from scratch on a limited budget and operate at a profit but also meet the standards of education that you need to achieve eg sports/discipline/attendance etc. You can do this by employing the right (strict) teachers. This is where the challenge lies as obviously there is a trade-off between employing the best teachers and paying lower wages. You also get to design the layout of your school and choose what to build and where. There are facilities such as cafeterias, staff rooms...

An Education in Great Cinema
Advantages: Great story, Brilliant acting - another classic from Almodovar
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning
...Bad Education (or La Mala Educación) is the latest film (released 2004) from the great Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. Anyone who has an interest in Spanish cinema will know Almodóvar as the director of such excellent films as ?Talk to Her? and ?All About My Mother?. Bad Education stars Gael Garcia Bernal, the Mexican heart-throb who has appeared in a whole list of films, not least ?The Motorcycle Diaries?, ?Amores Perros? and ?Y tu Mamá También?. The film is subtitled, so if you can?t handle that then read no further (but you are missing such a lot).
**** Plot Summary ****
In 1980 Madrid Enrique Goded (Fele Martinez) is a young successful film director searching newspapers for an idea for a story for a new film. The doorbell rings and a bearded young man enters claiming to be Enrique?s old school friend Ignacio Rodriguez...

School memories
Advantages: n/a
Disadvantages: n/a
...away with anything so we did as we pleased. Even going out of school to get chips from the shop halfway through a lesson and because we seemed so confident when walking past the reception desk no one ever questioned us. It probably wasn't the best thing for my education but I did enjoy being able to get away with things that most others couldn't.
GCSE results
Despite my messing around and avoidance of lessons, I some how managed to pass my GCSE's. The day we arrived at school to get our results was one of my best memories. We lined up in the blistering heat outside the building for about half an hour. Being handed the envelope with our name on we then met up in friendship groups outside to all open them together. I remember a feeling of genuine shock when I read down the page and saw five A's, five B's and a merit for GNVQ ICT...

Education Studies at SHU
Advantages: Friendly staff, keep job options open, Sheffield, Work Experience
Disadvantages: Work Placements aren't always as hoped for
...and links to different themes. Such as; race, religion, gender (and many more).
-Preparing for Work Based Learning - This module was taken in the first semester of the first year and is designed to prepare you for going into the work place. You compile a report on a school or educational institution of interest. This is designed in order to ensure that you know what you're doing once you get out into the world of work placement.
-How do we learn? - In this module we looked at our own learning and linked this to theories of learning from literature. This module taught us how to use the library and how to search for journals using LitSearch (Sheffield Hallam's link to Journal Databases).
- Observing Learners and Professionals - The first time we were let loose on the world of education. This was the first work placement, we were to...

* Rock School *
Advantages: Plot is Different
Disadvantages: Couldn't Watch it a few times!
...I have decided to review 'The School of Rock' film having recently watched it. The School of Rock is an American film released in the United Kingdom on February 6th 2004. The film comes under the comedy and musical genres. This film was directed by Richard Linklater and stars Jack Black. This movie is a PG. Running time of this movie is one hundred and eight minutes (twelve minutes short of two hours),
Wannabe rock star , Dewey , is 'sacked' from his band and because he has many bills to pay and is down in the dumps , he feels he needs to get out there and find a job. So , he becomes a substitute teacher at a private school. What will happen when Dewey takes his 'rock and roll' attitude to the private school ? Watch School Of Rock To Find Out!
On first impression , this film didn't look my cup of tea at all. My friend had the DVD...
