Six star service from a 4 star hotel.
Advantages: Close to all the sites and sounds of Venice.
Disadvantages: It is a bit on the expensive side.
...Hotel Al Ponte Antico. Venice.
The hotel Al Ponte Antico is a four star hotel in the centre of Venice. It is situated on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge and has spectacular views of the bridge from the balcony.
The hotel is part of a 15th century palace which has been lovingly restored by its current owner to its former glory. Each room is individually decorated in Louis XV period style elegance to a very high standard. There are only 9 rooms in the hotel which means that service is very personal and informal. The rooms contain the usual facilities such as minibar, Wi-Fi access, although we did not use it on this occasion, direct dial telephone, flat screen television and a superb bathroom with bidet and a multipoint shower. The bed was very comfortable.
On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Oliver who made us most...

5 star hotel, 4 star price tag - Maritim Hotel, Mauritius
Advantages: The service is exceptional
Disadvantages: May seem expensive to some people but worth saving for in my opinion
...~~Maritim Hotel, Mauritius~~
~Why this hotel:
In 2007 my partner and I were invited to our best friends wedding in Mauritius, it was something we definitely did not want to miss or something we did not date miss because my partner was the best man.
We did have the option to pick our own hotel but we decided the best choice would be for us to stay in the same all-inclusive hotel with our friends.
Our holiday was for the first 2 weeks in May with Hayes & Jarvis and it cost us £1,800 each for 2 weeks. You may think the cost was a little bit on the expensive side, but I hope my review will help to explain why.
I am not reviewing Mauritius itself - just the 4 star hotel.
~First impressions:
When we arrived at the airport we were greeted exceptionally well by the locals, the ladies received flowers and the men received a necklace...

Albufeira (Portugal) 4 Star Self Catering Hotel
Advantages: Near all amenities. Good central Location.
Disadvantages: You cannot book the sun (pity)
...it. On the north side are a few shops, houses and buildings. On the south (beach) side are many of the hotels, shops, and restaurants.
Brisa Sol Hotel:
This is a 4 star self catering Hotel. There are about 6 levels with rooms on most levels and 2 medium sized lifts.
The hotel is within a 15 min walk to either the old town or the new town.
The rough cost in the medium season will be about £400 for 7 days and you could experience the following:-
Reception:
This is open 24 hours a day with English speaking staff. A bowl of nice boiled sweets is always on top! They sell tickets to hotel functions, act as a bureau de change and also sell tickets to assorted trips. Check their prices to the tour operators, as the hotel is usually cheaper.
Rooms:
All rooms are on-suite with a toilet and bath/shower. All have settee's and a TV...

Everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel
Advantages: Location, facilities, standards
Disadvantages: Not really suitable for families
...Excellent location right on the beach, good facilities and used for business conferences too. Food is good although can be repetitive, I would suggest bed and breakfast, they offer an excellent choice for breakfast. Very relaxed friendly service, although I do feel at times this was slow, one member of staff didnt speak very good English I wouldnt have minded but they were not local either, think they need to look at this in a 4 star hotel. The rooms are of a good standard and very clean, towels etc changed daily. There is internet access from your room if you want it or you can use the hotels payable pcs for interenet. I would say for standards and location and also luxury I would rate this a 4 star plus. The hotel is located amongst 5 star hotels with a number of restaurants, bars and tourist shops nearby, there is also a bus stop...

The Star Hotel - An absolute Gem!
Advantages: Food - Staff - Location - Everything
Disadvantages: NOTHING !
...Just back from a wonderful stay at The Star hotel in Kingussie. We stayed for a 5 night break in Sept. and cannot find fault.
We were welcomed by the owner, and shown to our room.
Good size, with large double bed, nice dressing table & warbrobe with plenty of space for all our walking gear. Tea & Coffe making facilities aswell as an iron & hairdryer. You can have the option of having a bath or shower, we chose bath, which was huge!
Ample car parking behind the hotel which also doubles as a little beer garden.
Breakfast & dinner included in price...and to be honest we have never eaten so much in our lives!!! Absolutely amazing especially for the price! A full range of choices for breakfast, fruits, cereals & of course porridge! Orange juice on tap! Once you've devoured that, a full breakfast menu to choose from...from the full...

The Star Hotel, Kingussie
Advantages: Great Value for Money
Disadvantages: Nothing
...My Husband and I have just returned from The Star Hotel, the hotel while being old fashioned it is extremelly clean and the staff very helpful and pleasant, the food is excellant I defy anyone to find better value for the money, the day before I arrived I injured my back and the girl on reception called Tanya kept heating my back pad in the microwave oven for me, she is a little treasure, on our second day we booked to return in March 2009 and we are looking forward to it, yes the hotel has no lifts but that is no problem, the portions of the food given are exceptional I'm sure I've put a stone on in the four days we were there. It is in a great location for seeing all other local sites, I can really recommend going to see the Reindeers just outside Aviemore a truly great experience...

5 stars for the 4 star Royal York hotel
Advantages: Great location, every need taken care of
Disadvantages: Price!
...I recently had a chance to stay at this rather lovely 4 star hotel in York. My husband is involved with a medical company and for their AGM this year they stayed at The Royal York with a meal at the nearby (if you call 40 minuets on a coach) Castle Howard. All very posh and normally way above my means of expense (for the general person attending this function think doctor, surgeon, well paid researcher), however as hubby does work for them they paid for most of the trip (we had to pay £26 in total, what a great deal!).
Arrival
--------
The hotel is situated next to York train station and has a large car park so it?s convenient to drive too. The hotel is about 5 minuets walk away from the centre of York where there are loads of shops from the normal high street chains to antique and art shops.

A 4 Star Pretending to be a 5 Star.
Advantages: Great for Families
Disadvantages: Nothing to do at night.
...and tear, which considering the hotel has only been open 2 years, is not good.
BREAKFAST.
The main restaurant in the morning is chaos.
We went instead to the Red Saffron which between 7-10 is adult only. A lot more peaceful and quiet.
Getting tables at either of these restaurants is very easy as they are both quite large and have equal space outside.
Food;
=
This is where the restaurant falls down massively. This is where it really should be a 4 star and not called a 5 star.
The food is rubbish.
Bland, luke warm and repetitive. Many people, and I ended up copying them, would get a baguette cut it in halve a make sandwich. The menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner is again disappointing and never hot enough. Even the pastries tasted bland.
They put out microwaves for those people who want their food a bit hotter, always...

Average hotel but not a 4 star
Advantages: Good Location, clean pool
Disadvantages: Shower only, no bath, food not great
...I recently came back from Turkey after a weeks stay at Alinda Hotel in Icemeler. We arranged our trip with Chapa Travel as a package tour. The hotel is quite inexpensive and would cost 40 Turkish Lira a night if you were to book directly (End of Aug/Early Sept) but i'm sure this price varies depending on the time of year.
First impressions
We arrived at our hotel at 3am in the mornig and were greeted in English by the hotel staff. We were staying on an all inclusive basis and they had prepared a breakfast meal in a takeaway container for us as they were not expecting us to be awake in time for breakfast, which was rather nice. Unfortunately it was only Bread, Olives and Feta cheese, which wasn't too appetising but I guess its the thought that counts. Breakfast was served between 7.30 and 9.30 but unfortunately I was never awake...
