ASDA, THE ONLY TRUE ONE STOP SHOP?
Review of Asda (Shop) by
RICHADA
Advantages: Vast Range of Products. Value For Money. Some Stunning (Non-Food) Bargains. George Clothes. Fewer "Trick" Offers.
Disadvantages: Dodgy Trolleys. Huge Check Out Queues.
...WHO ARE THEY?
In the simplest of terms, ASDA is a nationwide "superstore" chain. My definition of the word "superstore" is as primarily a grocery store, with ancillary departments - clothes, electricals etc, rather like those in a department store. To fully qualify as a superstore in 2006, they will also have to retail petrol. In short a one stop shop if you like.
ASDA - Associated Northern Dairies, a good old homespun north of England company yes? Well once upon a time, maybe. Now for some years part of the gigantic American Wal-Mart chain which, in the US at least, exercises colossal buying power and is able to control many sectors of the economy.
As a matter of interest, in 1999 Wal-Mart paid £6.7 billion for Asda, at that time creating the world's largest retailer. In total the Wal-mart group has over 4,300 stores worldwide...

You Asda have a look
Review of asda.co.uk by
yummy.mummy
Advantages: Cheap and lots of choices
Disadvantages: Not the clearest of sites to get around
...You Asda go there
I normally shop at Tesco.com - but occasionally I stray over the fence and look around for comparisons. This week I did a grocery shop at Asda for the first time, as it saved me £7 on my overall shop and we are saving pennies wherever we can. So I wanted to share my experience with you, and pass on any helpful advice that I learnt from my online travels.
It Asda start somewhere
Asda was formed in 1965, but since 1999 it has become a subsidary of Wal-Mart, which is one of America's largest retail companies. It was originally formed by ASociated DAiries, hence the name. It is, at the present time, the second largest chain of Supermarkets in the United Kingdom. There are currently over 200 stores through the United Kingdom, and there are plans in the pipeline for more to open...

ASDA Is Hardly The Full Monty
Review of Asda (Shop) by
fallen121
Advantages: Cheap, good customer service, many open 24hrs.
Disadvantages: Crowded, especially at peak times.
...Introduction
~~~~~~~~~
Both of the supermarkets in my town were owned by ASDA so for nearly ten years I shopped there almost every week. I have to admit I like the prices at ASDA and sometimes buy petrol there. And the pizzas and Indian meals are great tasting and excellent value. HOWEVER…..since Tesco built a store in my town I have found myself going there more and more and now I hardly go to ASDA at all. So I felt the time had come to take stock of what is wrong with ASDA and what could be done to improve the store.
I realise that lots of people on here love ASDA to bits and wouldn't shop anywhere else. However, when reading other opinions about ASDA on Ciao I began to realise that lots of people who shopped there for the prices weren’t always 100% happy about other things, and most of the things that bothered them were things...
It Asda Be Asda For Me
Review of Asda (Shop) by
KRISPY13
Advantages: Easy on the bank balance
Disadvantages: Transport probably needed
...As I am a very happy and loyal shopper at my local Doncaster Asda I thought I would take you on a virtual shopping trip, so sit back and enjoy.
The Entrance
***************
The entrance to my store can get quite hectic in the busy periods of the day, especially rush hour, that's a killer. The reason for this is a badly placed roundabout with too much traffic volume for the width of the road. They really could do with adding another lane to stop the backlog this causes.
Car Park
*************
The carpark to my store is massive, but believe me I have seen it full up at peak times. There are great disabled parking facilities, situated closest to the stores entrance for ease of access. The spaces even talk to you when you park in them to warn you that this is a disabled facility only. There is also ample parent and baby parking...
It Asda be the best supermarket in the world.
Review of Asda (Shop) by
roy_l_t_1970
Advantages: The range of goods is excellent.
Disadvantages: Parking can be a problem.
...I was going to write an opinion on geo physics but, since I know absolutely nothing about it, I changed my mind and wrote one on Asda instead.
I HATE SHOPPING !!!!!!! Well, that is not really true. I DID hate shopping until I discovered the beauty of Asda. This is a shop that I can get myself lost in for hours. I know it is quite sad to hear a man saying that he can spend hours in a shop (what am I saying ? My credibility has just flown out the window), but when I go into Asda I cannot resist browsing through the CD`s, magazines, books and household section (since I have recently moved into a flat and am in the middle of decorating and furnishing it). Asda has all that anyone could need in a supermarket. I can remember the days when Asda was just a foodstore (my god, I sounded like my Gran just then), but no more, oh no, Asda...
It Asda be Tesco for me
Review of Asda (Shop) by
sandrabarber
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Variable Quality
...Even though I am a devoted admirer of Tesco, I do get bored doing my shopping at the same place all the time, so I decided to try somewhere different for my last two shops. The place I chose was Asda, who have a quite huge supermarket a couple of miles from my home. A couple of my friends won't shop anywhere else and are always enthusing about Asda's prices and offers, so I went with list in hand and high expectations.
Parking
+++++++
No complaints here. An enormous free car park next to the store with plenty of rubbish bins and trolley parks. plus a dedicated disabled section at the front of the store and lots of parent and child spaces too.
Score: 5/5
General Store Ambience
++++++++++++++++++++++
Very bright, very clean, very welcoming. Plenty of baskets and trolleys (into which you DON'T have to deposit a pound...
Why I dumped Asda - A Strangely Difficult Acronym
Review of Asda (Shop) by
Malibu_jenny
Advantages: Some things are cheaper. It makes a change from Tesco
Disadvantages: It's dangerous and full of empty shelves. They can't check stock.
...slip last week that The Boyfriend never went to the supermarket before he met me. Novelty value must have carried a certain weight!
But, all this aside, I eventually refused to go to Tesco and I put it all down to one thing - Tesco Boredom.
A phenomenon whereby you find that you know Tesco like the back of your hand and can no longer muster any excitement about the special offers. When you know which member of staff works which shift and where the tea bags are. You stop caring that you can buy three frying pans for 99p.
So, with familiarity breeding contempt, I started seeing Asda on the side. It is through no small effort that I have persuaded The Boyfriend that we should shop at Asda in recent weeks. He likes routine, to the point where he is a creature of habit. Unfortunately I have no time for this kind of whinging when...
It asda be Asda
Review of Asda [TV Advertisement] by
MotherLove
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Sometimes out of stock in 24 hour store
...I have been doing me weekly shopping at Asda now for about the last nine years. I find them to be unbeatable price wise and I also think that they have an excellent range of products. Over the last nine years every now and again I have tried other supermarkets but I have to say that I go running back to Asda every time.
A 24 hour Asda has now opened up near where we live and it is just so convenient. I mean if you have a sleepless night you could always just pop down and do your weekly shop!! (only kidding), but seriously the concept of 24 hour stores is a really good one although my one complaint about this particular store is that it is so popular that quite often some of the shelves are empty because they have ran out of a particular product. I think they seem to be struggling to get the balance right.
Another thing that I...
ASDA PRICE DUNDUN
Review of Asda (Shop) by
mcgoo2002
Advantages: 24 hour openings, leeerrvy asda meals, electrical guarantee
Disadvantages: not open on sunday night
...A new Asda supermarket opened up the road from me so I decided to investigate. The opening hours are quite simple, they are open 24 hours Monday-Saturday but they close at 4pm on Saturday evening until 8am Monday morning. This gives shoppers freedom to shop at whatever time they wish.
-----------------------------------------------------
Quantity
-----------------------------------------------------
there is an extremely large quantity of choice in the Asda shop with many different sections all consisting of many aisles of products. Some of the sections included in my local Asda are; a CD/Video/DVD section, a Electrical section, a cafe, a food section (the main part) a booze section (my favourite) and a changing section; This consists of seasonal products such as in Easter there are Easter eggs at Christmas there are stockings etc...
