Ashford

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Well ; heres my opinion of the place they call " Ashford " ; I mean - it's not too important... it's only where I call home... ;-) Now you see the slang on the street these days people call it " Trashford " and all the rest but it aint a bad place to be actually... let me explain why... The Good Points The Town Center The town center is good place to generally hang out as it is rather a large place with a good selection of shops including Blockbuster and Electroniques Boutique (my favs) It also hosts a place which is sheltered called " Community Square " with shops inside there - pretty cool. The Mcarthur Glenn place Iv only been once and I can honestly say it really didnt appeal to me - far too many fshion shops for my liking - nice big structure though and a place to hang out and meet people I suppose... although...

Ashford Town FC

Advantages: Friendly atmosphere. Nice stadium. Great FA cup tradition
Disadvantages: Financial problems.

...There are two soccer clubs that mean a lot to me: one is Liverpool my favourite Premier League side and the other is Ashford Town FC my home town team, and the subject of this review. Ashford Town FC was founded in 1930 and there have been semi-professional teams in the town since the 19 th century under various names including Ashford United and Ashford Railway Works.Pre World War II Ashford Town played in the Kent League and enjoyed a modicum of success including a FA Cup tie against Clapton Orient, now known as Leyton Orient. In the post war period they were in the Kent League until 1969 and won several trophies including the Kent League championship in 1949-49. They joined the Southern League in 1959 and won promotion several times to the Premier League where they played teams such as Cheltenham, Wimbledon...

Sleep ol' Ashford.

Advantages: Quiet and sleepy town.
Disadvantages: Boring usually!

...Okay so lets begin with the roots of Ashford. Some people believe the towns real origin lies in the ninth century when it was invaded by the Danes a number of people settled on land what is now known as Ashford. Ashford was owned by many important people and arguments were normally started as to who owned what part. Ashford has a fantastic railway line which was built in 1872 and doubled Ashford's population from 3,000 to 7,000! On to Ashford recently.... Ashford has increased its population by a staggering amount. I believe this is because of the transport links and the new developments e.g pubs, clubs, transport and obviously apartments. Ashford has been majorly cleaned up and is looking really attractive! It is open to many schools including Ashford School which is a private school and costs thousands to send your child...

Ashford in the Water in the Peak District

Advantages: Historic, Picturesque, Charming
Disadvantages: Lot a lot of modern amenities

...Ashford in the Water is a very picturesque little Village in Derbyshire. It sits on the banks of the River Wye right in the middle of the Peak District National Park. The River Wye is a tributary of the River Derwent, one of the most important Rivers in the Region, and this River has always played an important role in the history of the Village. Ashford in the Water lies just a couple of miles to the North of the busy market town of Bakewell, on the Buxton Road. These days the A6, the main Bakewell to Buxton Road by-passes this beautiful little place and it is therefore often overlooked by visitors to the area. Ashford in the Water lies on one of the most ancient routes through the Pennines known as the Portway. This route crossed the River Wye at the point of a natural ford, which since Medieval times has been the site...

Ashford-Changing Fast

Advantages: Superb location. Great rail links. Fast growing
Disadvantages: Lacks architectural distinction.

...My birthplace Ashford in Kent is changing in quite a dramatic fashion. During my boyhood this small market town only had a population of around 25,000 and was over-shadowed by places such as Folkestone,Maidstone and Dover.Today things are very different! Ashford is probably the fastest growing town in Kent and the urban landscape is also changing rapidly. The town has always been a reasonably important rail junction but today it houses Ashford International the first stop for trains coming through the Channel Tunnel. The station is large, looks rather like an ocean-going liner and has equally massive car parking facilities. Nearby is one of the largest factory outlets in England, designed by Lord Rogers, the Ashford outlet operated by McArthur Glen, opened in Spring 2000. Also in the town is a purpose built Athletics Stadium...

Great - But Don't Holiday In Ashford!

Advantages: Location - if you're using the Eurostar
Disadvantages: Location - if you aren't using the Eurostar.

...Regular readers - and I love you all to bits - will no doubt once again raise their eyebrows Heavenwards in supplication one more time when they read that I've just stayed in a hotel in Ashford, Kent. This time, however successfully I have managed to root out an undesirable holiday location - and, believe me, it is - there was method in my madness. It may be a convenient conference location, but there are certainly better centres from which to explore Kent, the "Garden of England". Try Canterbury, for example. It's where I live and it's less than 20 miles from Ashford. So why, exactly, did I do it? Baby Josh and I decided that Amanda needed a weekend away (?Mothering Sunday? was looming) and we arranged a short break in Brussels. The best way to get to Brussels from the South East of the UK is by Eurostar, without a shadow of doubt...

mediauk.com

Advantages: A decent media website...
Disadvantages: ...but no better than that

...Anyone looking for a job in the media, or even an insight into the big wide world of it, could do much worse than look here to begin with - mediauk.com. Operating since 1994, it lists current available jobs in radio, tv and print media, recent news articles on all these forms of media and a discussion board. Now being a graduate in a degree of this field of work, the jobs board has been an interest to me for quite a while...but don't expect to find work instantly. Anything but. Copious numbers of people view these adverts (you can see how many exactly in the job listings), but don't let that deter you of course - if you're good and experienced enough then you'll come across the job for you eventually. The jobs listed usually just contain a small job description and contact details for where to send your cover letter and CV, but...

dictionary.com

Advantages: Good free service
Disadvantages: Too many adverts & pop-ups

...Dictionary.com?! Dictionary.com?! Seriously?! Why, yes, something that seems so simply and basic has it's place on the World Wide Web (yes, I'm aware of the irony!), but fear not...it's not as basic as it seems! Rather than just typing in a word to discover its definition, dictionary.com does provide a far greater service. Since it's launch way back in 1995 (were websites even around then?!), it's one of the world's most popular services, as naturally many people will just type in 'dictionary.com' into their browser if they need to find the definition of a word...even if they don't know the website exists, it makes sense to have a crack at it! The website does provide a thesaurus option, translator and encyclopaedia...for anyone even contemplating steering away from Wikipedia, God forbid! But there are other quirks to the website...
