I quickly realised that my stay at Ashton House Hostel on Corporation Street in Manchester was going to be nothing like it was advertised and sold to me. I was dissappointed and felt a little cheated but the staff's attitudes felt to me like it was a case of "like it or leave". Dirty, lacking and disapointing.
Advantages: Cheap, close to city centre
Disadvantages: Dirty, cold, bookings not always accurate
...Manchester via plane and looking to book in to their room at midday.
Initially we were told we hadn't booked with them and hadn't made any payment however a quick visit to the bank produced a mini statement that clearly showed payment of over £100 being taken by Ashton House Hostel 9 days prior to us turning up to stay!!
When we got a room we were given a 6 person room for our party of 7. A mattress...

Advantages: Find stuff you can't find anywhere else really cheap
Disadvantages: No guarentees, can be busy, rain
...For those who don't know, Ashton market used to consist of an outside market and an inside market. However, a few years ago, the inside big market was burned down. It hasn't been opened again yet, though work is going on with it at the moment. Only the outside walls still stand.
