Tampere is about 170 km from Helsinki to north. Temperatures are max +28 and min -20 C.
Tampere is more than close to nature. City centre is surrounded by lake and ridge scenery, sited on an isthmus between lakes Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi. The Tammerkoski rapids run through the city. There are 200 lakes and ponds in Tampere, and a total of 450 in the entire region. There are numerous nature reserves in Tampere. Pyynikki and Viikinsaari near the city centre are the best known of them. Pyynikki, which was formed by the action of ice and sea more than 10,000 years ago, is the world's highest gravel ridge. At its highest it rises 80 metres above Lake Pyhäjärvi and 160 metres above sea level.

Money transferred, but no items received

...I ordered a pair of Asics Gel Kayano on Aug 24, 2009, since my old ones are close to be worn out. I expected the shoes to arrive within a few weeks, but nothing happened. I was not in a hurry at the moment due to a temporary knee injury. However, as my knee was recovering I bacame eager to get my new shoes and pick up my 2-3 weekly runs.
Now more than 2 month later, I have still not received my shoes. I have tried to contact their customer service by email several times but no responce at all.
I am in the process of getting my money back via VISA.
Don't buy anything from ontherun.co.uk...
Funny, I have previously ordered two pairs on Ascis Gel Kayano, and both pairs were delivered within a reasonable time (shipping from UK to Denmark). It seems that the reputation of ontherun.co.uk is really declining, especially during 2009....

Pink and Fluffy - and Tough as Old Boots!

...Tamarix (Tamaricaceae) or Tamarisk is, at this time of the year (May), in full bloom - that is, one type is - Tamarisk Tetranda. It is a shrub sometimes growing to the size of a small tree.
It is a particularly delicate looking plant especially when in bloom as it grows with loose slender branches and tiny grey-green leaflets. At the moment these fragile looking branches are covered in frothy plumes of tiny pink flowers. From a distance the general appearance gives the impression of pink haze or even smoke.
This is a plant often seen growing in seaside areas being very wind resistant and also extremely tolerant of salt spray and is also fully to frost-hardy. It usually grows to a height and spread of about twelve feet but can be left to grow into a small tree, which can then look like a pink cumulus cloud.

speedy service and great value!

I took them up on their "price beat promise", which says they will beat any price in the uk by £1 and offer you free delivery and a free pair of socks. I was very impressed by the service. They got back to me quickly the same day. I had found the Asics 2140 £5 cheaper and so they offered me a £1 discount on the other retailers price meaning I had saved about £6 already, then with free delivery on top of that i was very happy, the socks were also a nice little bonus. I received the trainers within the 2-5 working day time slot, I think they came after 3 days. they were in perfect condition, they included a catalogue for me and i would recommend them to anyone. i think the price beat deal is great and they said they will happily beat prices on any items that are cheaper...

Great buying experience
Advantages: Loads fo stock and great savings. Trainers arrived really quickly.
Disadvantages: haven't found any yet ... apart from now I have no excuse not to look like a professional runner!
...Just though I would write a review on sportsshoes.com. I was a little scepticle in using this site as I previously had read some of the reviews of others on here.
Sportsshoes.com had the pair of Asics Kayanos that I wanted at the best price on the web so thought I would chance it. I am a little unsure how others didn't like this site but I see their reviews are from a while ago.
The site is really easy to use and there is so much stuff for sale. Off back to it in a week or so to get some new running t-shirts and probably persuade myself to buy other stuff I probably don't need as usual!
The checkout was really easy to use and I ordered them on a normal delivery. They arrived within 3 days. Packaged up really nicely and with the box and shoes in absolutely mint condition.
The shoes fit perfectly and still can't believe...

The best trainers ever
Advantages: The best cross trainers ever

...I have got through many pairs of trainers over the years and can even remember when trainers were called plimsolls or pumps. I guess I started when the old Dunlop Green Flash were all the rage, progressed on to Adidas Roms, through to many different versions and brands of specialist running shoes made by New Balance, Asics and Nike.
Anyway, having established my credentials I have to say that I have now found the most comfortable pair of cross trainers that I have ever had. They are Reebok DMX shoes which cost about £55 when I bought them in June this year. They are grey in colour with black trim and they feel like slippers. I have run several miles in them, taken part in numerous Body Pump and Circuit training classes, cycled, played the odd game of football and walked around a few shopping centres since then and they are still as...

A Midsummer's Day Nightmare

SAVE MONEY BUT GET GOOD QUALITY

So, what is their formula for success? Do they have one? Well, I guess it is that they do provide decent quality goods at reasonable prices in their large and bright stores. Men and women feel at ease and able to browse, without fear of being hassled by over-enthusiastic assistants (and that’s the politest phrase I could use to describe some stores’ ‘vultures’). Then, add in a sprinkling of ‘name label’ products like Lee Cooper, Pepe, Farah and the occasional Sportwear brand like Fila, Asics and Adidas and you have a store that is appealing to a broad range of customer and has the all-important labels to give it a certain ‘credibility’ with the young.

I'm a sweaty Betty!
Advantages: Fabulous clothing range, great sale

Product range
The sizing is good and they don't just do clothes for ultra skinny runners - the collections start from an XS (size 8) and go to an XL (size 16), but most are available from S - L (10 - 14).
Most of the clothing available on the website is Sweaty Betty's own, but they also sell the Stella McCartney range for Adidas, and in the accessories section they sell Asics, Nike, MBTs and FitFlops. I've now bought a good range of clothing from here - a number of yoga tops, some running shorts, some capris for aerobics, a running vest top, and some trainers - and I've been thoroughly impressed with the quality of all of it. I particularly love the little details - my running top has a little zip pocket in the back - so discreet but just big enough for you to fit your house key...
