One sexy Net Book!!
Advantages: Small for travelling, Fast, Stylish, Great Battery, Webcam Built in.
Disadvantages: No Cd Drive:(
...Hello everyone and welcome to this review.
Well... Unfortunately my old HP laptop had reached the end of its life; it was time to get a new one. Im surprised that it lasted as long as it did considering the amount of times I drop my laptops. After researching on the web for a while I got a bit confused, there were so many laptops available and there were many good and bad reviews on each, I really did not know what to think. So, a trip to Comet was in order, I just wanted to pick one that looked nice and had okay features. If it was bad I always had the 28 day Comet return policy available, after all I would only lose around £10 for a repacking fee if the laptop was not for me. I would just have to make sure I don't drop it!
To Comet I went and right at the front of the store was an advertisement of a net book. It was...

Acer Aspire One = Number 1!
Advantages: Small, light, comparativley powerful
Disadvantages: No external DVD drive provided. Protective sleeve
...up installing XP on it (a challenge without a CD drive but that's another story).
I think would ideally suit anyone who hasn't used a computer before.
If you are one of the majority who have had Micro$oft thrust upon you then go for the Windows version, unless you have the time and patience to install it yourself.
There are 2 SD card slot on this machine, the one on the left hand side is intended for the the version of this laptop with SSD to expand the storage capacity. Stick an SD card in and leave it sort of thing.
The other slot on the right hand side can cope with a few different formats, including SD and this is intended as your normal card reader, say from a digital camera where you take the pictures off and remove the card.
The screen is clear and evenly lit, although I've experienced a slight flickering when running...

Acer plays the Ace card again!
Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
...only because the reviewers are comparing it to something more powerful or expecting more. For me, installing XP was the right thing to do as I can install all my usual programs which isn't possible with Linux. As the performance was more than I was expecting I can't fault it and considering the hardware installed and the price paid I was not expecting such a performance. The battery life for some may not be enough but as its only intended for browsing, checking mail and the like, it's good enough for me. Other batteries are available from around £60 and will extend usage to 6 hours. It's better to buy Acer branded ones.
On a recent cruise the A150 was a dream to have for keeping in touch with the kids back home and being so small you hardly even know you're carrying it. The ability to play some older games was a bonus I wasn't expecting...

Great value if you can stand the niggles.
Advantages: Great value for money; nice keyboard for the size.
Disadvantages: Short battery life, no built-in 3G, unconventional mousepad layout.
...browsing, chat, office applications and casual games with relative ease.
A big selling point is one of the nicest keyboards for its size. Where things like the Eee PC 901 take a fair amount of practice to get used to, most touch typists could use the Aspire One straight away with good speed and accuracy. Since the keyboard is the distinguishing feature between these machine and smaller, yet still very powerful, smartphones and ultra compact PCs, I'd think that an important configuration.
Unfortunately, this doesn't quite extend to the mousepad which has a strange layout with the keys on the side rather than at the bottom. This is understandable in light of getting as much room for a good keyboard as possible but does take some getting used to.
It's particularly cheap if you go for the Linux version, which is very nicely presented...

The best value netbook? yes!
Advantages: Price, performance, choice of colours
Disadvantages: sound
...Sure, it might not smack you in the face and say 'look at me, i'm shiny!' but the acer aspire one has got to be the most reliable, sturdy and best value netbooks around.
Starting of, as i usually do, with a summary of the style of the product, the acer aspire one won't win any beauty paegents, but it is functional in it's design. Sure, i'm not a fan of the whole gap-between-screen-and-hinge look, but it works. The netbook has no real standout design features, but it isn't the ugliest netbook around (step in the advent netbooks please). The aspire ones saving grace is the ability to buy it in several colours: pink, white, blue, black, brown, red, chinchilla... with such a range it is almost certain you can find the colour for you, which normally makes the netbook more attractive anyway.
With regards to build quality, it's great, it...

Aspire one Small But Mighty
Advantages: Ease Of Use, Size, Out Of Box compatible, Good looking
Disadvantages: Awkward Touchpad, Poor Battery
...I bought this version of the acer aspire one before christmas 2008. Since I bought mine my mother brother and next door neighbour have all been so impressed that they to have purchased the exact same machine.
My machine came pre installed with Linpus lite (lunix) which is a little strange if your used to windows in any form. From getting the machine out of the box i was online within 5 mins. It was so simple.
The 1st thing you will need to do once you get connected is to goto the settings menu and click the live update. This gets all the up to date bits and bobs the aspire one needs to be upto date. This process is almost fully automated and took about 30mins tom update and install.
The software included is more great - its not windows office, but a free version called open office it includes a good word processor, spreadsheet...

Be inspired by the Acer Aspire One A110
Advantages: Price, size, speed
Disadvantages: None so far
...--Background--
My wife has always moaned that she could never get onto the family PC as it was always being used by either my kids or myself. After doing a bit of research, she convinced me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one.
--In the box--
The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no problem. As well as the netbook, there was a mains battery charger, a user manual and a recovery cd which I thought was strange considering there isnt a cd driver in the netbook!!
--Initial Setup--
I must admit I found this impressive...

Acer aspire one A110
Advantages: Fast and ultra portable
Disadvantages: There is no disadvantage to owning this computer
...I own the 8GB linux version in white. It is cute and compact with a glossy finish.
The Aspire One running linux is surprisingly fast considering its 512MB of ram.
It is perfect for wirelessly browsing the web using fire fox.
The keyboard is just short of full size making it the perfect tool for typing an e-mail or essay whilst out and about.
The open office documents can be saved as word, powerpoint or excel documents so they are microsoft compatible.
I chose the 8GB version for the increased durability, I have not yet filled the hard drive but when I do there is a storage expansion slot which will take an SD card.
The Aspire one is a great little computer well worth its small price tag...

Good, Cheap Notebook
Advantages: Cheap, good battery life, Wi-Fi, Lightweight
Disadvantages: No Bluetooth
...The Acer Aspire One model is a notebook I recently bought from PC world, it was on offer for £199. I needed a cheap notebook to carry out simple tasks such as using MS office and run some simple accounts software. I also wanted Wi-Fi to access the internet via my home PC router, so this notebook seemed ideal for what I was looking for.
The notebook itself comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition O/S. It has WiFi, Fast Ethernet, and an ultra compact 8.9" WSVGA TFT Screen for crystal clear viewing. The Acer Aspire One A150 has an Intel Atom N270 Processor that runs at 1.6GHz for professional mobility.
Acer redefines mobile connectivity with the Aspire one, also known as a netbook due to it being powerful and acquires net friendly computing features in a compact design weighing as little as 2.2 lb. The Ads for this notebook are...

Great little piece of kit for good money.
Advantages: Cheap Powerfull machine
Disadvantages: No Optical drive
...I have had my Acer Aspire One for about 3 months and it has never failed me. I will review everything that should be considered before buying.
Speed: Well this depends on the model you are going to buy, I own the Linux version with 1GB of ram, which is probably the fastest AAO you are going to get, it really does fly. Because Linux uses very little prossesing it means that all of the application will run with little effort. The ram is upgradeable to 1.5GB and I cannot even start to think how fast it would be with that.
Memory: Memory is a very personal thing, for example I have the 120GB HD version which is more than enough for me but some people might fill that instantly, other people would get the 8GB SSD and never fill 8GB so really it just depends on your needs but there are many different HD sizes available. So take your pick.
