ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
Advantages: Ready for future technologies
Disadvantages: No temperature monitoring hardware, BIOS flashing only works on windows
...ASROCK 775Dual-VSTA Motherboard
- Introduction -
A motherboard is an integral part to any computer. It connects all of your hardware together and performs a multitude of tasks therefore it is vital that when you come to build or upgrade your computer you choose a motherboard that is appropriate for your needs and existing hardware.
**
I have written a review on ciao for a compatible processor, the Pentium D 950 which works nicely with this motherboard and covers further details such as the installation of CPUs.
**
- Supported CPUs -
As you could probably guess from the product name, the ASROCK 775Dual-VSTA motherboard is an Intel Socket 775 motherboard. There is a huge number of CPUs that the motherboard supports, ranging from the low-end Celeron D 325J to the high-end X6800 Core Duo Extreme, all Socket 775. Pentium D...

This is a budget motherboard.
Advantages: Loads of features for the price
Disadvantages: A poor performer
...- Summary -
I bought this motherboard to build a new mid-range system (3.0ghz processor, 1GB DDR 400 RAM). I ended up replacing it with a better motherboard because of the poor performance of the ASRock 775V88+.
All I can say here, is that it's true what they say about the motherboard being the most important component of a system. A poor motherboard will simply fail to get the best out of the other components. There's no point buying a decent, fast processor and RAM when the motherboard can't take advantage of it.
- Specification -
For a cheap motherboard (about £38-£40 depending on where you buy from) it boasts a pretty impressive feature set, hence why I bought it in the first place.
There is no point reproducing the entire list when it's available here: http://www.asrock.com/Product/775V88+.htm
Just a quick few...

Overclockable motherboard (Asrock K7S41)
Advantages: Safe overclocking ability, onboard graphics (64mb) Onboard LAN
Disadvantages: Only two Ram slots, and two PCI slots
...Introduction:
First thing, I needed a new PC as my laptop was very slow, and basically just falling apart! So I decided to build a new pc, so I went onto ebay, and started looking for a motherboard and processor bundle! I came across this motherboard with a Sempron 2800+ CPU (processor) and 256mb of ram. I snatched up this bargain for around £50 including delivery!
Installation:
So once it came! I was dead excited so I opened the box. It came with the Asrock K7S41 manual (quick installation guide which is very useful and helpful), support CD (including drivers), one ultra ATA 66/100/133 IDE ribbon cable (for hard drives, CD rom drives, etc), one ribbon cable for 3.5inch floppy drive, and the I/O plate for the computer case. So I took everything out and installed it into my computer case straight away.
Specifications:
It...

Asrock P4V88 Skt478 Motherboard
Advantages: Easy Setup, Great Performance, Cheap but Reliable
Disadvantages: Some components hard to reach
...I bought this motherboard when I was building my first ever system, mainly due to the cost but also due to it's wide range of features. On the face of it, it's nothing to shout home about, but it's reliable and should something go wrong, during installation or testing, it won't break the bank if you need to purchase another.
It comes well packaged, with a fairly well laid out multilingual manual, all the cables you'll need (Floppy, SATA, IDE), the Install CD (although in my opinion it's not really needed) and even an anti-static foam mat for preparation of the board.
On the whole, the board is well laid out, with the connectors for the drives grouped together and a good distance from the pci/agp slots. There are 6 USB 2.0 ports on this board, and they are connected by means of pins. There are also pins for firewire, audio...

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 - A great upgrade motherboard
Advantages: Full Speed AGP and PCI-Express 16 Graphics, Great Upgrade Path, Stable System
Disadvantages: None - As yet
...ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 - AGP and PCI-Express Graphics
I have had the motherboard for 6 months now and I have been very pleased with the motherboard.
The chipset used on the board is the ULi M1695. The chipset is the only one currently on the market that allows the use of both AGP and/or PCI-Express graphic cards for the AMD Socket 939 CPU's.
The board gave me an upgrade path that I have fully used.
When I bought the board I had a Nvidia 6800GT AGP graphics card, I couldn't afford to upgrade that aspect when I was also buying a Athlon 64 939 Chip (3700+) and a motherboard,
Since then I have purchased a PCI-Express 16 Nvidia 7800GT. The new graphics card went into the board with no issues.
The only negatives I would give to this board was the lack of a firewire port and lack of gigabit internet but as I paid £55...

Easy to install and so far very reliable
Advantages: cheap and reliable - easy to set up
Disadvantages: It's not PCI express
...I have actually built around 7 systems with this board, over the last year or so and all have stood the test of time well, with no problems or malfunctions of the boards themselves reported. The CPU's fitted ranged from a Celeron 2.6 GHz up to a P4 3.2 GHz.
As socket 775 boards go, there are more expensive boards out there, but if you are on a budget they seem quite acceptable and reliable. The first one I built was for myself, and was placed in one of those standard "Nokia" style cases, the drawbacks with that case is that the front mounted USB ports use separate cables to attach to the USB headers on the board.
As nearly all boards these days use the same pin outs, why they don't just have simple plugs is beyond me. Anyway, the manual has decent and easy to read diagrams showing what pins to use so there was no problem...

Great motherboard for a midrange system
Advantages: Cheap but not compromsing, basic yet brilliant
Disadvantages: Asrock's website leaves a lot to be desired
...When it came to ordering components for my new system, a motherboard never really crossed my mind as being an important aspect in performance. Still, after much deliberation I decided to go for the Asrock939Dual-Sata2 based on price.
Don't let the price fool you into thinking it's a tacky component, it's actually a very well rounded robust motherboard for any system based around the AMD (socket 939) architecture. The box comes with SATA cables, a software disc and a basic manual.
Installation was easy and pain free and the main areas of the board are well designed for fitting inside a case. Interestingly, the motherboard comes with an AGP slot and a PCI 16x express slot, leaving you the option of reusing an old graphics card or moving on up to the latest PCI express ones. The PCIe slot itself leaves enough room for a pretty large...

Good buy
Advantages: Lots of USB, 7.1 sound etc etc
Disadvantages: none
...Hi, just to say.. this Motherboard is brilliant... works fine with my Pentium 4 524 (HT) and DDR2 RAM. I bought this motherboard to replace my old one that decided it was time to move on. I removed the old one, popped this one in, and away it went. Only one problem i have had with it, it seems to want to keep my chassis fans and CPU fat on full all the time, whereas my old one sped them up and slowed them down as nessacery, Don't know if you can get somthing to control this. but i suppose for a gamer, the extra air flow will be an advantage! lol. It's got On-board 7.1 channel sound, 4 USB + 4 USB headers on motherboard, Built in Infra-red(never used, don't know how), Built in 1 gigabit ethernet. Overall, recommended for buyers.
Another problem(?) was that it only seems to want to run PCI-E graphics cars at 4x, where the motherboard is...

Review of asrock K7VM2
Advantages: Cheap and Cheerful
Disadvantages: limited PCI slots
...Readers Please Note that Asrock now sell the revision 3 of this motherboard. (the main difference is that it no longer supports SDRAM)
ASROCK have made a name for themselves as a budget manufacture of motherboards, and this accolade is certainly worthwhile.
I have purchased two of the above units, and found them to be reliable, efficent and stable
IN THE BOX:
when purchasing, the motherboard comes with all neccessary items, The motherboard itself, COM port connector, instruction manual, the backing plate for the case, CD-ROM with all the drivers and manuals needed for ease of use, and a pack of screws (which is very handy)
INSTALLATION:
The motherboard is one of the most easiest to set up that i have worked on. It is jumperless which allows you just to plug in the CPU and away you go.
It allows you to manually overide...

Mother of all Motherboards!!!!
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor performance, VIA chip set
...of the basic 1 chip design, is totally unreliable.
In owning this PC for just 3 months I have had to format and reload software many times, and uninstall application, to re-install them again, in order to get them to function.
The other thing is that the motherboard seems to eat into the RAM, and I can't run as many programs on this PC, as i did on my older machine. I have now installed 704mb of RAM, the old PC had just 64mb.
If I leave my PC online running for about 12 hours the PHYSICAL MEMORY is eaten into leaving the PC slow and often freezes completely. Where as the old one, just kept on going for days..
Summary:- I am saving rapidly to replace this ASROCK motherboard, for another make, especially one that doesn't use a VIA chipset.
Further update 30.08.05
After a time I decided to reuse this motherboard to see just how long it would...
