Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec

Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked

...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs. I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for. I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in. The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair. The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

Mk 4 Astra 1.6 8v Club

Advantages: Price, fuel economy, cheap insurance, cheap parts, nice looking
Disadvantages: Drab uninspiring interior, basic equipment levels, horrible seat trim, needs the pokier 16v engine

...I had this car up until last year. It was a 2001 Mk 4 Astra Club in Metallic dark blue with a 1.6 8v engine. The engine to be honest was a major bone of contention for me, leading to me getting rid of the car and upgrading. The 1.6 8v is the same ageing engine used in the Cavalier and frankly just wasn't good enough in a modern car like this. Carrying on with the bad points, the other major bugbear with this car is the frankly awful interior. One gets the feeling vauxhall deliberatly choose the worse colours to use in the basic Astra, I got horrible grey velour seats (yes the same colour as in the cavalier!!) and a horrible brown/beige/black colour dashboard which was franlkly irritating to sit behind. My short review on the astra 1.6

Advantages: Smooth, slick and sexy.
Disadvantages: Reverse always clunks, fuel consumption, interior mirror falling off

...Basically I wanted the 1.8 VVT, but the insurance for my age on a 1.8 VVT was 2200 (I am 18 years old) So i decided why not take a look at the 1.6 Sxi. So I ended up buying it , insurance costing me £1400. I didnt end up with the edsact car I wanted because I am not alowed factory fitted bodykits or small spoilers or my insurance would have been void with directline (Dont risk it, You crash they win) In all I am happy with the car, although its heavy on fuel. It works out with maintanance around 40pence p/m which isnt too bad I must say. One thing I dont like, the interior mirror fell off yesterday and swung into my face whilst I was driving (my car is an 06 plate, didnt expect this) Then it took around an hour for me to get it back on...

Ford Focus 1.6 - Shocking!!

Advantages: Handling and Looks
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Bodywork, Transmission...

...Two years ago I decided to buy a brand new car, and after much research I decided upon the Ford Focus 1.6 (old style now). Everything I had read pointed towards a really good choice. So I went into my local Ford dealer and a week later I had my nice new car. First thoughts were a good looking car, well built, fantastically smooth to drive, held the roads amazingly well. All of the equipment worked wonderfully well and I absolutley loved my new car. Then the problems began.... After two weeks the Airbag Modulator failed, so I went back to the dealer, and they replaced the faulty part within a few days. They wouldn't let me have a courtesy cat so was left hanging around the dealers for a few hours. All work was under warranty so no cost to me. Three weeks after the Modulator fault I was washing the car and noticed tiny rust spots...

Review of Ford Focus 1.6

ASTRA 1.6 16v SXI - EXCELLENT BUY!

Advantages: excellent handling and engine power, very reliable
Disadvantages: alternator quite expensive, suspension should be looked at at 40k

...I bought mine in October 2005, its on a 'V' plate which is 1999. all i have had to get done on it was the exhaust which only set me back £80 which is very cheap compared to other cars in the same class i believe. the only serious cost i have had to incurr is a new alternator which was £180 but the car had done 65000 miles so thats not so bad. i bought mine second hand with 54000 miles on the clock for £3100 which was also from a dealership... the cars are generally totally sound, have a good double central locking feature which makes you feel a bit more comfortable leaving it places overnight. as far as the performance goes... the 1.6 16v is a surprisingly powerful engine (101bhp i believe). the handling is also second to none with lotus tuned suspension, this gives the car the ability to hold the road better and gives the care a totally...

Advantages: goodlooking, sexy, excellent ride ;-)
Disadvantages: common!

10/10 for the Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Climate

Advantages: Big luggage compartment, Heated windscreen
Disadvantages: Nothing

...I bought my Ford Focus in August 2006. After many months of research I opted for the 1.6 zetec climate model. As a young mother with two small children I needed plenty of room in the back and a boot large enough to carry a pushchair as well as the weekly shop, I am happy to say that this car did not disappoint. Some other great features of this model are -The Heated front windscreen and mirrors which save me a lot of time in the mornings. -The CD player that comes as standard and can be controlled by a lever attached to the steering column, Sound quality is great and the speakers in the back are in the doors - so I can have the radio on without the speakers blaring down the babys ears. -The fuel consumption is a lot better than I expected for a car of it size. -The car is very stylish although very common...

Review of Ford Focus 1.6

Focus 1.6 - A fun stylish serious car.

Advantages: Comfortable, spacious for passengers, driver and lugage. Nippy and stylish.
Disadvantages: Its not the ST170 and its not the RS.

...My 1.6 is one of the late early 2001 models and it is a pleasure to drive it was second hand and had two previous owners, I'm not sure how they treated it but when I picked it up it was in pristine condition which to me says that it is a fairly hardwearing car. Its smooth lines and contours make for a slightly sporty look as well as the memories of the Rally focus in all its glory tearing up the WRC. It is a very smooth ride with fantastic handling so if you are a little heavy on the peddle it has the strength to compensate. Acceleration is good and you through the range of the 5 speed gear box, and at the other end of the scale the brakes are hot too mine only has discs on the front and Drums on the back but there is plenty there to slow down the 125 horses that kick out of the engine. consider an astra

Advantages: Safety ,Comfort reasonably low insurance and running costs
Disadvantages: Rear folding split seat does not fold flat Space save wheel spare of limited use

...I have owned this car for just over 12 months and was bought with 17K on the clock. It is a 1.6 v developing a useful 105bhp and can deliver a top speed of 115mph (though not on UK roads) from the 1598cc engine with a 5 speed manual transmission and runs on unleaded fuel which is held in a 52L tank The body shape is a 5 door hatch and is solidly built which is fairly standard for the Vauxhall range it is this combined with the abs braking system and in my version six airbags which help contribute to its excellent NCAPS 5 star rating The driving position is comfortable the seats are firm and offer good support the driving seat is adjustable for height and backrest position.
