Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 hatchback 2002
Advantages: Affordable, good alrounder
Disadvantages: Cambelt change every 40000 miles (expensive)
..., it does not scratch that easily. A heated rear window is good for them cold mornings and does a really good job, lots don?t. The rear spoiler is a nice touch. All the above are nice features that make the car all the more pleasurable to own and drive.
After sales
As with most main dealers, they are brilliant and couldn?t be more helpful until you have bought. Then they really don?t seem to care. Under duress they have sorted out a few niggly bits for me under the Vauxhall 3 year warranty. If you are going to buy one, do not get a Network Q warranty until the manufactures warranty has expired, it?s pointless and a waste of money, certainly get one after.
Conclusion
Having worked in the automotive industry for sometime now, I have a fair knowledge of cars and would not hesitate to recommend the Astra SRI (ashtray) to anyone. All...

Herby Rides Again?, No its an Astra SRi 1.8!!!!
Advantages: Great handling, Cruise Control, 125BHP
Disadvantages: Wheel spin with heavy acceleration.
...So firstly this is my 2nd car, moving from 1.6 litre Peugeot 306, and boy was I blown away by the vast improvement in switching cars!
The handling in the Astra ( SRi 1.8) is excellent, and takes coners with a breeze. From start to 60mph in 9 seconds. And is a surprisingly nippy car, Now for the boring stuff...
The gear shift is short and well positioned. The pedals are sited without any offset from the driving position. There is adequate clearance beside the clutch pedal to rest your foot. The pedal weight on the clutch is perfect although the resistance of the accelerator pedal is a little light. The instruments are clear and attractive, and have like a brushed aluminiuim thing around them which compliments other details on the dash and interior, which is rather spacious, than say the corsa, or other vauxhalls, exculding...

THE REAL ASTRA SRi REVIEW (02-04) 1.8 16v
Advantages: Performance, Cost, Looks
Disadvantages: Common car, petrol and SUSPENSION!
...What do I think of the 1.8 Sri mk4 Astra?
Well, those of you who might have read my review of my own 1.6 Sxi will already understand why i like the Astra
However, would i swap it for the 1.8? the answer is NO!
For the extra money you don't get an Awful lot more, the engine is more torquey i'll give it that.
acceleration is only slightly quicker but I cant make £35 pounds worth of petrol last 400 miles in the 1.6, in the bigger 1.8 it takes around £45 to do this...... go figure.
Then there is the insurance which is boosted up a whole group or two meaning you'll be spending a lot more money than you need to be able to enjoy a sporty astra.
Okay, its not all bad and if money isn't a problem, then go for the 1.8. they all come optional with the OPC bodykit (which you could get for the 1.6 SXi anyway), it goes a little quicker (top...

Astra- nomical Price
Advantages: Sexy design, sporty look, good on boot space
Disadvantages: Cheap interior appearance, not comfortable
...*~*~Introduction~*~*
This review is based on my experience of using the Vauxhall Astra each week for regular motorway journeys down South every week for work.
The Vauxhall Astra has been said to have been developed to offer technical sophistication and exceptional comfort, I wonder if my review will agree with that?read on if you wish to find out.
*~*~Exterior Appearance~*~*
The Astra SRi looks tasty I am definitely not a fan of the Vauxhall's but even I have to admit this model is a pretty attractive car.
The model I am reviewing is the 3 door hatchback complete with a sleek spoiler, body colour bumpers, mirrors and tinted glass.
My absolute pet hate is the black plastic on the Vauxhalls and the SRi has definitely skipped on this. The standard black trim on the car is replaced with colour coded trim which gives it a much...

A powerful diesel hatchback
Advantages: The engine, performance, looks, equipment, general finish
Disadvantages: The gear change between 5th & 6th, leg room in the rear
...The Vauxhall Astra has been with us since 1979 in various guises & is constantly in the top selling list of cars in the UK ever since. The reason that the Astra has proved popular is due to its modern designs, the fact that it is usually well equipped, cheap to run & insure & despite its reliability concerns its quite simple & cheap to repair.
A recent 270 mile blast to central Scotland in the new Astra Diesel gave me an opportunity to assess the latest model. It was a 1.9 turbo diesel hatchback with a six speed gearbox, from the outside the paintwork finish was excellent & all the gaps around the doors & body panels were consistent & narrow.
One you jump inside the quality theme continues, the upper dash & upper door trims were finished off in a quality rubbery plastic finish often seen in many up market makes. The lower dash (see...

Beruwela (Sri Lanka)
Advantages: Very Hot, Lovely Beach
Disadvantages: Touts, Poverty, Mosquitos
...We have recently come back from Beruwela (Sri Lanka).
We flew from Heathrow on Sri Lankan Air Lines. The flight it self was nearly 10 hours but made as comftable as possible.
On each seat was TV screen, the various channels included 3 film channels, comedy channel and also a channel where you could map out the journey.
The meal service was first class. Food was Sri Lankan food and you had a choice of meals so suitable for any taste. Compimentry drinks included.
Downside when arriving at the airport lookout for the porters wearing orange BIBS, if they help with baggage they expect english money. My experience included one porter taking to meeting point and another trying to take bags to bus pick up point and another trying to load on the bus.
The air conditioned minibus journey to Beruwela took approx 4 hours. The driver was...

Galle - Sri Lanka
Advantages: valued experiences
Disadvantages: No
...I am going to explain my experience in Galle. I went on a trip to Galle with my friends. We took "Ruhunu Kumari" train. It was operated through the coastal area. Scenery was so beautiful and we enjoyed very much. The beaches are very beautiful. There were few tourists in the train. You have to realize how beautiful Galle is. You can see fishermen sitting on sticks fishing in the see along the south coast. It is a strange technique of fishing. Nobody knows how this technique originated from. It works as the stilts are attractive sceneries. You can catch a glimpse of the famouse stilt fishermen in the down south. You are lucky as such a sight is nowhere to be found in Sri Lanka. Stilt fishing is famous as a generational occupation among the fishermen with the child taking after father. They make their own stilts on the reef...

Vauxhall's Astra is SXi
Advantages: goodlooking, sexy, excellent ride ;-)
Disadvantages: common!
...~ My history ~
My very first car was a Renault Clio and after a crash on Valentines Day 2005 (which completely wrote it off (oops) and I couldn't believe I had to pay £50 to get them to scrap my little baby! (grr)
Because I needed a car to get to work, the search began almost instantly to find another car. I had driven an Astra before and really liked them, I thought they were quite compact but big enough to fit people in without being packed in like sardines.
I know I didn't want the bog standard Astra, so I went on the Vauxhall website and started to look at what they had to offer.
~ The Sxi ~
I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to cars and engines etc and was a bit lost as to what spec I wanted and what kind of engine, so was only really bothered about how it looked (typical girl?)
This is where...

Sri Lankan Airlines scammed us
Advantages: OK food I guess
Disadvantages: I never would have paid for the flights they stuck us with.
...We booked tickets from London to Colombo and Singapore a couple months before our holiday and choose Sri Lankan because they were slightly cheaper than others. A month before the holiday they cancelled one of the flights and rescheduled the remaining flights without giving us any option for a refund. The flights we were left with were horrible (9 hour layover and a long haul flight leaving at 4am) and we were forced to take extra time off work as the new flights arrived on Monday morning. We would NEVER have agreed to the flights that were forced on us and definitely wish we had paid a bit more to fly with an airline that doesn?t screw their customers. When we complained (Ref:E/051108/26414/TP) we were told this was within their terms and conditions....
