Review of ASUS V 6600/Pure by
kevinhaucc
Advantages: blazing speed with reliable stability
Disadvantages: errr... none!
...A geforce will forever be a geforce. Unique , unpresidented and the best; a combination that is almost utter perfection by the largest board maker ASUS with the largest GPU supplier Nvidia.
With support which is given by the latest drivers and additional software CD's given in the box of this awesome 3D graphic card, it only seems the next step to using this card is to overclock it!!!
Intelligently done. Superior in every sense of design. Runs games like Dungeon Siege or the new Spiderman game which sucks up resources like mad so smoothly you could swear that you were running a dual processor PC!
The picture quality on a 17" MAG monitor is so crispy clear and sharp that it excels a 3D game onto the monitor as like butter melting on a frying pan... smooth and silky. I own one and i can testify to it.
Cheers to ASUS.. really...

Nice budget card - but beware of ASUS motherboard probs
Review of ATI XPERT 2000 by
daveashcroft
Advantages: Good Budget buy for non AMD systems
Disadvantages: ASUS P5A incompatability is frustrating
...I bought an ATI Expert 2000 AGP w TV/OUT a couple of months ago, and NOW it is a reasonable card......but beware.
When i first bought the card (to slot onto my ASUS P5A MB with a K6-2 500 processor) I had major problems with getting my system operational. Firstly, the drivers that are supplied on CD do not work with the ASUS motherboard, you will have to find up to date drivers from the net (substantial download - be warned 56k users).
I have finally managed to get my computer working again by varying graphics card drivers / AGP drivers and IDE drivers. Be warned though this has taken me months! System Hangs are frequent, as are erroneous "power saving" signals to your monitor which leave the computer operational but dont allow the monitor to come back on until you reboot. The monitor just goes into standby and doesnt come...

A decent MB at a decent price
Review of ASUS ALi Chipset P5A - motherboard - ATX - ALADDiN V by
steve.toplis
Advantages: Cheap. Well laid out. Plenty of expansion potential.
Disadvantages: Not the best but not the worst.
...With all the new processors about with their Slot 1, PPGA, Slot A or Socket A there is still a place for Socket 7 (or SuperSocket 7 for processors that run faster than 233Mhz).
I bought my Asus P5A last year when I decided I needed more speed but wanted to keep to the same processor family (AMD K6). I had previously used an Asus TX-97E (which is now running in a second machine) but decided to take advantage of the 100Mhz bus and other revisions brought in with ATX motherboards.
The first thing I needed was a new case and I bought a Vasco desktop ATX case. I fitted the motherboard and all the cards, cables etc. and I was up and running. The first thing I noticed was that the connectors used for the floppy and hard drives have been located so as not to foul access to memory slots and cpu socket. This is a brilliant idea as older...

The King of Athlon 64 Motherboards
Review of ASUS K8V Deluxe - motherboard - ATX - K8T800 by
Weltmeister
Advantages: Extremely fast; Highly stable
Disadvantages: Some BIOS Problems
...will no doubt appreciate the on-board 3com Gigabit LAN controller, which operates through the PCI bus.
The BIOS
The K8V uses an American Megatrends (AMI) BIOS, and here is where the possibilities for overclocking really open up. ASUS allows you to make multiplier adjustments, and I managed to overclock the board to a 215 MHz FSB before encountering some minor stability problems - no doubt you could go higher than this if you're willing to fiddle with voltage settings and such. Overclockers can be assured that there is a lot of tweaking potential in this board.
Performance
=
I set the board up with the Athlon 64 3200+ CPU, regular IDE HD and a Geforce FX 5900 video card. After installing Windows XP, you have to load the various drivers (such as the RAID and SATA drivers) from the bundled CD. Windows had no problems in detecting...

ASUS P5PE-VM
Review of ASUS P5PE-VM - motherboard - micro ATX - i865G by
djohan
Advantages: Flexible
Disadvantages: -
...CD. Users can reboot their system through the support CD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process.
ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an optional ROM.
Max. 8 USB 2.0 ports supports
USB 2.0 is the latest connectivity standard for next generation components and peripherals.
Backwards compatible with current USB 1.1 peripherals, USB 2.0 delivers transfer speeds up to 40 times faster at 480Mb/s, for easy connectivity and ultra-fast data transfers.
C.P.R.(CPU Parameter Recall)
When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open the case to clear CMOS data. Just simply restart the system, the BIOS would show the previous setting and then users can amend the CPU setting again.

Highly recommended great value burner!
Review of ASUS DRW 1608P by
EdwardChaput
Advantages: Great Value for money and reasonably fast as well.
Disadvantages: Can perform slowly on rewrites
...I have had problems with internal DVD drives in the past but this one sorted it all out. The Asus DRW1608P is a lovely grey machine and looks just like it does in the picture. the speeds are as follows:
5 x DVD-RAM
8 x DVD+RW
6 x DVD-RW
8 x DVD +/-R (DL)
40 x CD-R
32 x CD-RW
Does not lightscribe.
As i mentioned this machine can under perform slightly on RW but on the whole its fast and reliable. The best thing about this is it's price - mine cost £35 from a local shop but is available on line from £39. The reason why I chose this model is that it was the most recommended from Computer Shopper coming top of their polls.
I have burned quite a few DVDs with this and they have all worked perfectly. It comes with firmware update and Nero Startsmart - although a license is required for full DVD burning capabilities.
I would...

Super Deluxe
Review of ASUS A7N8X Deluxe - motherboard - ATX - nForce2 SPP by
googoos
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: none
...The ASUS A7N8X Deluxe is really intended for the hardcore gamers out there. I build my gaming pc with an Athlon XP 3200+, a 1GB of kingmax DDR400 and Radeon 9700 pro. This motherboard has a built in 6-channel SoundStorm Dolby Digital soundcard, 4 usb ports, printer port, 5 PCI slots and 2 firewire ports. Unlike the other motherboards that have a built in video card, this one has none so you have to buy a separate video card and plug it on the AGP slot (8x).
The motherboard holds 3 memory slots which accept DDR RAM (PC 2100, 2700 and 3200). If you have two 2 memory sticks with the same capacity and speed, you can enable the dual channel capability of the motherboard to be able to increase the performance. It supports all the Athlon Xp and Duron CPU models of up to 3400+, plus the socket A version of the new AMD Sempron up to 2800...
