ASUS EEE PC 701 - Small but perfectly formed

...This review looks at one of many netbooks to be released in the UK over the past few months, ASUS's EEE PC 701 SD. The model I have is fitted with Windows XP and has an 8Gb hard drive. I bought it on special offer for £155. Appearance The 701SD is absolutely tiny. It weighs around a kilogram and is roughly the same size as a hardback reading book when in the closed position. It comes in a neat box along with instructions,a mains charger, a protective case and a system CD. It has a 7 inch screen which is absolutely tiny but is still perfectly functional. The unit has three USB sockets, headphone and microphone jacks, and SD memory card slot, a small webcam above the screen and a microphone positioned just underneath the keyboard. It has a small touchpad which is small but works in exactly yhte same way as a normal sized laptop...

ASUS Eee PC 701

Advantages: Small, compact, portable, Works "right out of the box"
Disadvantages: Linux, Battery Life, Small keyboard

..., gave me steps to enable the Advanced Desktop Mode.....now it is much more XP like. Speed of the machine is good......currently runs at 633Mhz, but can be tweaked up to 900. It comes with 512Mb of RAM, and my particular model, has a door on the bottom that allows you access to the ram, so you can up it to 2GB (approx cost is something like £25) It comes with a solid state 4Gb memory, of which about 2.5Gb is taken up with Linux. The user manual does give instructions on how to install XP on it, and it does come with a CD recovery disc that also contains XP drivers. People on the forum, eeeuser, have said that by using NLite you can get a working XP OS cut down to 1 Gb. They have reported that XP runs perfectly fine on it. I am in two minds about putting XP on it: 1) I've never used Linux before and would like to get used to it 2...

...The ASUS EEE PC 701 model is an extremely affordable, small and portable netbook with a 7" screen and built in wifi card designed primarily for internet use. The standard model comes with a built in 2 gigabyte solid state hard drive and comes in a variety of colours and finishes ranging from matt white through to pastel pink. Asus eee PC

Advantages: Easy to use, light

...I bought one of these 2 weeks ago and even though it is small and not the easiest screen to see on, I love it! Was able to easily connect to the Internet away from home, check files I had on a USB drive, without going to an Internet Cafe! It is light and easy to carry with you wherever you want to go! Only problem I have with it is that I will have to learn Linusx to do some of the things I want to do as my digital camera does not have a driver. Would have prefered XP but will learn what I need in time. All in all, for less than £300 I got a great deal and recommend it for all travellers or people who need to sometimes be away from home....

Asus Eee PC 1000H - One of the nicest netbooks to date

...I was very lucky to get our Asus Eee PC 1000H today. The version I have here is a 10-inch Windows XP version, with 1GB RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Having only just unboxed the tiny wonder and played with it for around one hour, this is my very early impressions. Firstly, the accessories you get in the box make it seem a lot better value than other offerings. The stumpy, yet high capacity battery should yield much longer runtimes than the 3-cell batteries shipping with other netbooks. You also get a nice little manual, a polishing cloth, Support CD and MS Works 9.0 licence. There is also a slip case, which is functional and means you can get out-and-about with your Eee very quickly. The 1000H unit is very very sexy. ...Well I just love this laptop. It is everything I want in a laptop. It does have a few minor flaws but the pros totally outweigh them. Appearance This laptop is a great looking laptop. Only the size of an A5 notepad, it is small and yet it still manages to look smart yet fun. I chose the baby blue cover for my asus eee but any colour looks just as good. Inside, the layout is neat and tidy with reasonable sized keys for this small laptop. The sides of the laptop look clean in simple as is to be expected with a small laptop like this. Without a CD drive, it allows more room for the 3 USB ports and SD slot allowing the back of the laptop to be left clear bar the power port. Overall, a great looking laptop. Asus Eee PC 900 - My experience.

Advantages: Very fast and very portable.
Disadvantages: Tiny keyboard and can sometimes feel a little flimsy.

...This is a fantastic little laptop. I've been using it for little over a month now and all I can say is WOW!. It's very light and portable, I've had no problem carrying it around with me, even just in my hands. Of course this creates a downside. Tjhe keyboard could be a little bigger. I have fingers like sausages so maybe this is just my experience, but I can not type at my full speed, which is a shame. Also, sometimes it feel's like i could snap it with my bare hands, of course as I said, my hands are bigger than average. For such a small laptop, it really is quite fast, as long as you don't want to play games. I only use it to write college reports and light programming, and for this is works wonders. I have the XP version and it is very capable of running word processors and even photoshop. I generally find that 20 gig is plenty...
