A good mid-range motherboard for P4 CPUs
Review of ASUS P4S800 - motherboard - ATX - SiS648FX by  Vicster1784

Advantages: Inexpenisve, good performance, lots of ports and slots
Disadvantages: Ports a bit cluttered, no WiFi

...Asus P4S800 Asus have always done a pretty good job at making motherboards. Since my second computer I’ve gone for nothing but Asus when it came to choosing internal components for my home made machines. Looking for a new motherboard I came across this one – a motherboard based on one of the latest Intel chipsets 865PE. This version of the motherboard is the basic stripped down one, with other more expensive versions of the card available, such as the Wireless and Deluxe editions. I honesty don’t see much point in paying more money for wireless that I don’t use and more ports and things since this has more than enough even for someone as demanding as myself. Design: The main issue with this motherboard is its design. Don’t get me wrong – it looks good, not that it matters considering it’s going to be hidden away in your... Read review

ASUS EAX1950PRO"still got some steam inside"
Review of ASUS EAX1950PRO/HTDP by  krille282

Advantages: Fast for a older gen card & stable thx to excellent driversupport
Disadvantages: too expensive compared to newer series of cards

...support/2x PCI-E slots of course. Now some tech specs: (according to a 3rd party application, however it looks to be right). Name: ASUS EAX1950PRO (Radeon X1950Pro) GPU: RV570XT TSMC: 80nm Die Size: 230mm2 ROPs: 12 Bus Interface: PCI-Ex16 Shaders: 36 Pixel/8 Vertex DX Support: 9.0c/SM3.0 Pixel/Texel fillrate: 7.0GPixel/s & 7.0 GTexel/s Memorytype: GDDR3 Memorysize: 256MB Buswidth: 256 Bit Bandwith: 44.9GB/s GPU Clock: 581Mhz Memory Clock: 702MHz (1404MHz DDR) ASUS also has some own specific innovations like GamerOSD,ASUS Splendid video enhancement technology (which has the limitation to not support resuloutions over 1280x720 (720p) using PCI-E, if this card were the AGP version it would be even worse as 720x480 is the maximum on that particular interface, luckily this is the PCI-E card) & we also have the SmartDoc that I... Asus after Compaq (6 months later)
Review of ASUS F3JA AP024P - Core Duo T2250 1.73 GHz - 15.4" TFT by  soledad

Advantages: reliable, robust, the right features and configuration
Disadvantages: Asus not well-known for laptops

...advised to look at companies who build up laptops. Asus is well-known for motherboards and now is starting to be better known for laptops and even though there were few reviews at the time of my purchase, I decided to take the plunge. For the price I paid (when my initial budget was £800), I got all the specifications I was looking for, and extras such as built-in camera, Bluetooth, an excellent graphics card. Opinion after 3 weeks: - It has not yet died on me, not even to stop and re-start, not even once! (Keep fingers crossed, it stays as such) - The utilities provided by Asus are quite nice, the DVD player and webcam software are interesting The 2 year global warranty is keeping me reassured - Even though I heard that matt screens are better than shiny ones, I don't find the shiny screen a problem and it can be cleaned very easily... ASUS AM2 M2N32-SLI motherboard
Review of ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe/Wireless Edition AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 590 SLI by  cjlight

Advantages: Quality and fast overclocking, great for games
Disadvantages: In the shadow of the Core 2 duo motherboards

...the top the heat dissipater. The ASUS M2N32-SLI motherboard comes into its own when overclocking it. The manual supplied comes with lots of information about the ins and outs of the BIOS features and on the the support disc offers an array of programs which helped me to name the two most important ones are:- 1.AI Gear allowed me to quickly change the CPU frequencies with a few clicks in the operating system and overclock it to my current computer working load 2.ASUS probe 2 allows me to check the motherboard and CPU temperatures and fan speeds to make sure that things are working properly. A customizable threshold can be set to set an alarm off to detect any problems. I found this is essential when booting up for the first time or when overclocking. The motherboard also comes with a built in sound card, a wireless router... Read review

ASUS EN7600GS SILENT/HTD Graphics Card
Review of ASUS EN7600GS SILENT/HTD by  albie4fay

Advantages: SLi Compatable, Cheap, compact
Disadvantages: Not the best to overclock, Bit slow on High res Games

...Ive just set up a second computer with the ASUS EN7600GS Silencer 256mb graphics card installed and I dont think there is a better budget upgrade card on the market. I set this graphics card into the following setup. Foxconn Am2 N570SM2AA motherboard AMD Athlon 64x2 3600+ Processor 512 DDR2 800 RAM Seagate 7200 250 GB Hard Drive 400w Power Supply DESIGN: The 7600GS is designed for motherboards with a PCI Express 16 slot and I would suggest it was placed on a motherboard with 2 PCI express slots as this graphics card is SLI capable. Meaning it can be linked with another ASUS EN7600GS so you can run two graphics cards as one Powerfull graphics card. I found the 7600 GS has a little trouble running games very smoothly with high resolutions, particularly with Anti-aliasing enabled. It still does very well and does manage... Read review

Creative Sound Blaster MP3+ external sound card
Review of Creative Sound Blaster MP3+ Sound card by  ilaskey

Advantages: Good software bundle, cheap, works well.
Disadvantages: Only stereo out on analogue

...'s built in sound card with MP3s sounding dynamic and clear (assuming they're recorded at a half decent rate). The midrange worked well and the bass sounded tighter than the existing card too. I haven't tried using it with an external 'proper' amp and speakers, just the ones I use on my PC but despite that, it gaves things a real kick. Conclusion The SoundBlaster MP3+ is small, light and does the job admirably. If you want to upgrade your existing soundcard or have one that is playing up and you want an easy way to get something working then you should strongly consider the MP3+. The main outputs are stereo only which may put off a hardened gamer or a DVD fan wanting multi-channel surround sound but for the rest of us, this is a great device at a great price. Using the digital output does get you the full 5.1 experience but to be honest, I... Read review

Asus 9800 XT/TVD
Review of ASUS Radeon A9800 XT/TVD by  FlameDruid

Advantages: Fast
Disadvantages: noisy

...I bought this card on the strength of an excellent review in PCHome magazine. It's a nice card in many ways, available in 128Mb and 256Mb flavours, capable of running the latest games with ease. Sad to say, the fans started to get noisy during bootup. They sounded awful. I was fortunate enough to get a replacement. But guess what? A couple of months later and that noise has started on the replacement! Overclockers UK are happy to replace the replacement luckily. Postage with insurance costs nearly £20 so I'm going to end up paying around £40 for the two times this has happened. Software: the DVD software isn't bad - it's an ASUS badged version of PowerDVD. The games are quite old, and the utlitites either didn't work or were not things I'd need. The main inclusion of interest was a voucher for Half Life 2. Even... Read review

ASUS AMD Athlon Motherboard
Review of ASUS M2NPV-VM - motherboard - micro ATX - GeForce 6150 by  JGK555

Advantages: HDTV output, supports AMDs Cool 'n' Quiet
Disadvantages: Only one lan

...The ASUS M2NPV-VM Motherboard for AMD single-core Athlon 64/ Sempron and Dual-core Athlon 64 X2/ Athlon FX processors using socket AM2 is very user friendly, I went with AMDs 64 x2 3800+ processor in the beginning then moved up to 4200+ 2Gb Ram without any hassle, very easy to setup and fits easily in a standard ATX case. A possible downside to the board is that it has a limited number of slots due to being a micro ATX sized board. That's not a big deal for me as the only two cards I'll be buying in the future is Graphics and a extra Lan card. Board Layout `````````````````` >In the upper right hand corner of the motherboard are the ATX 24 pin power connector, Floppy disk connector, Game/Midi port connector and four DDR2 slots. These DDR2 slots support a maximum memory capacity of 8GB and the frequencies supported is DDR2-800MHz/667... Read review
