Reviews of asus p5v
Daughterboard
Review of ASUS P5V-VM DH Digital Home Series - motherboard - micro ATX - P4M890 by
Ritatsu
Advantages: Cheap...
Disadvantages: Core 2 Extreme?
...I have been using this motherboard with my Intel Core 2 E6600 processor for the last 3-4 months, and it's been nothing but trouble. It does not fully harness and utilize the power of Core 2 as it uses a VIA Chipset rather then the more advanced Intel Core 2 created Chipsets such as the Intel 975X, and it does not support Intel Core 2 Extreme (E6800 processor and above), which is a big negative for upgrading and shows it does not have the necessary abilities for the latest technology.

Very stable
Review of ASUS Intel 440BX Chipset P2B - motherboard - ATX - i440BX by
yhwman
Advantages: Stable, feature rich
Disadvantages: None
...The Asus P2B is a stable and feature rich motherboard. It replaced a TMC motherboard I had which had ‘issues’ with Nvidia graphics cards. Since the swap my computer has been more stable in general use, as well as when the graphics card is working hard. Asus support the board well, a recent BIOS update added APCI power saving support. You get onboard USB, two EIDE channels, floppy disk controller, two serial ports, one parallel port and two ps/2 ports and the option to connect an infra red port. Wow! There’s lots of setup options to keep the tweakers happy and even the option of an Asus network card, which adds wake on LAN capability. Asus even have free motherboard monitoring/trouble shooting software available for download! If your slot 1 computer crashes a lot, try changing motherboards – you could be pleasantly surprised....

Excellent Motherboard, but expensive
Review of ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - iP965 by
webspot
Advantages: Silent heatpipe, PCI express, Supports Core2Duo
Disadvantages: Price
...Excellent motherboard. This is the first motherboard that I have installed in a computer before, and did ASUS make it easy for me!
The manual is very clear, and tells you where everything is. All the connectors matched up with my Akasa Zen Case connectors, which I thought was great, as since then I didn't have the same experience with a Thermaltake case.
The silent heatpipe, makes this a very quiet motherboard, whereas most normal motherboards would have a rubbish little fan that gets clogged with dust and ends up making a terrible noise. If you need to have a fan on the chipset heatsink, asus provide a fan that slots on to the top of the heatsink.
Aswell as the chipset fan, ASUS provide loads of other stuff. This includes USB expansion, firewire expansion, SATA cables, and more! Great if you need any of this stuff.
Overall I think...

Building an Athlon System
Review of AMD K7 (Athlon) by
Vistaway
Advantages: Cheaper and faster than Intel
Disadvantages: Fewer and more expensive motherboards
...After suffering with a P200 for too long, I decided to build a new system - and my sights fell towards AMD. The Athlon is a great chip, which offers the desirable combination of performance and price. The chips are significantly cheaper than similar Intel ones, but Slot A motherboards do run more expensive. Even so, the combination of an Athlon 700 and Asus K7V (£230)was much cheaper than the same Intel combo would have been. Installation was simple, with Asus providing a great manual. There was a problem with the motherboard initially (wouldn't POST), but a second one worked perfectly. My system has been running dead stable, cool, and fast! Even with a less-than-ideal AGP 2x graphics card, the performance in games and graphics apps is fantastic. I am completely satisfied with the AMD processor, and am currently shopping...

A good mid-range motherboard for P4 CPUs
Review of ASUS P4S800 - motherboard - ATX - SiS648FX by
Vicster1784
Advantages: Inexpenisve, good performance, lots of ports and slots
Disadvantages: Ports a bit cluttered, no WiFi
...Asus P4S800
Asus have always done a pretty good job at making motherboards. Since my second computer I’ve gone for nothing but Asus when it came to choosing internal components for my home made machines. Looking for a new motherboard I came across this one – a motherboard based on one of the latest Intel chipsets 865PE.
This version of the motherboard is the basic stripped down one, with other more expensive versions of the card available, such as the Wireless and Deluxe editions. I honesty don’t see much point in paying more money for wireless that I don’t use and more ports and things since this has more than enough even for someone as demanding as myself.
Design:
The main issue with this motherboard is its design. Don’t get me wrong – it looks good, not that it matters considering it’s going to be hidden away in your computer...

Extreme Performance For Gamers
Review of ASUS Striker Extreme Republic of Gamers Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 680i SLI by
safari004
Advantages: Array of Features, Overclocking and many more.
Disadvantages: Price
...-7, the tRP from 1-7, the tRAS from 1-31 and can change the command per clock to 1 or 2 per clock.
Over Voltage menu comes last. You can change the settings as follows:
Vcore Voltage: 0.83125v to 1.9000v in 0.00625v increments
Memory Voltage: 1.8v to 3.245v in 0.025v increments
1.2v HT Voltage: 1.2v to 1.95v in 0.5v increments
NB Core Voltage: 1.2v to 2.75v in 0.5v increments
SB Core Voltage: 1.5v to 1.85vin 0.5v increments
CPU VTT Voltage: 1.2v to 1.55v in 0.5v increments
In short, ASUS Striker Extreme is an excellent overclocker and can beat any other motherboard when it comes to overclocking.
FINAL WORDS:
To date I have got no problem with this motherboard. I love ASUS for producing such an excellent motherboard. Although it is pricey but I can say with surety that the money you give on it is worth it. I strongly...

ASUS AM2 M2N32-SLI motherboard
Review of ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe/Wireless Edition AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 590 SLI by
cjlight
Advantages: Quality and fast overclocking, great for games
Disadvantages: In the shadow of the Core 2 duo motherboards
...When purchasing my new computer i needed a motherboard that could handle the latest technology and compete with the latest releases. The ASUS M2N32-SLI motherboard fitted within my budget of one hundred pounds and offered a powerful tool for over clocking my components to keep my machine competing with the stresses of new programs and hardware.
Fitting the motherboard and installing the other hardware was exactly the same as fitting other motherboards. The ASUS M2N32-SLI motherboard supports the AMD AM2 cpu and thus supports DDR2 ram, this meant that when recycling my old computer i was unable to use the cpu or the RAM and needed to purchase these items again.
The passive cooling on the ASUS M2N32-SLI means that no fans are needed to cool the motherboard making it quiet. The motherboard comes with a optional fan which snaps onto...

Review of AMD - K7 by
SmileyBen
Advantages: Fast, fairly cheap for what it is.
Disadvantages: Still at the expensive range compared to lower spec processors
...With blisteringly fast processor speeds, the new K7s are really great chips, and much cheaper than the Intel equivilants whilst still maintaining all the high level calls. I've found them to be really fast and quite quiet, not requiring excessive cooling despite the fast clock speeds. It was very easy to install, just slotting straight into it holder on an ASUS motherboard, with a big rigid structure so you weren't terrified of breaking the fragile chip and wasting hundreds of pounds. It was fully compatible with Linux which I often run, being detected straight away. All in all a great chip....

Top quality SLi motherboard
Review of ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe - motherboard - ATX - nForce4 SLI by
telnet247
Advantages: SLI, price, feature rich
Disadvantages: Comparitively expensive
...Asus has consistently produced top-quality products offering both superior quality and features. The A8N-SLi Deluxe is no exception to this and offers a host of overclocking and other features and excellent build quality.
Installation of components onto the board is a relatively simple matter and thanks to Asus' Stack Cool 2 and the heat pipe system the board is incredibly efficient at dissipating heat.
However, the one problem I did have with the board was that the onboard Realtek sound card was a little tempormental with the bundled drivers and would not install at all on Vista. Fortunately, this is easily fixed by downloading the latest drivers from Asus' website.
In all this is a superb quality, feature packed, product from a manufacturer with a reputation for quality and service. If you are looking for a high-end motherboard...

what to do with a few extra bucks...
Review of ASUS V 6600/Pure by
kevinhaucc
Advantages: blazing speed with reliable stability
Disadvantages: errr... none!
...A geforce will forever be a geforce. Unique , unpresidented and the best; a combination that is almost utter perfection by the largest board maker ASUS with the largest GPU supplier Nvidia.
With support which is given by the latest drivers and additional software CD's given in the box of this awesome 3D graphic card, it only seems the next step to using this card is to overclock it!!!
Intelligently done. Superior in every sense of design. Runs games like Dungeon Siege or the new Spiderman game which sucks up resources like mad so smoothly you could swear that you were running a dual processor PC!
The picture quality on a 17" MAG monitor is so crispy clear and sharp that it excels a 3D game onto the monitor as like butter melting on a frying pan... smooth and silky. I own one and i can testify to it.
Cheers to ASUS.. really...
