Great hotel, average location
Advantages: Close to central station, clean, good breakfast, relatively friendly
Disadvantages: Not close to any major districts
...Location:
Palladium Palace is about 3-4 minutes walk away from Rome's central station, Termini. This made my first experience much more pleasant as the end of a long flight and train journey, was not followed by the hassle of a taxi or bus but, instead, a quick walk and my first taste of Rome.
The hotel is quite a way from most tourist attractions. I will firstly say that my party consisted of myself and a friend, both 18 year-old males, and we walked everywhere. In addition to this we visited in late august while the weather was still very hot. The following are therefore walking times based on my fitness, in hot weather, with lots of iced mineral water (something Rome's street vendors do to perfection!).
The Vatican - 1hr 45 minutes
Castel Sant'Angelo - 1hr 15 minutes
The Colosseum - 45 minutes
Trevi Fountain - 30 minutes...

Toward Rainbow's End
Advantages: An amazing concert, great talent
Disadvantages: Some disappointments
...I am really into my classic film stars at the moment. So when I was looking through Amazon the other week, I was very excited to see there was a DVD release of a Judy Garland concert.
I have admired Judy since seeing her in The Wizard of Oz on TV, when I was a child. My Mum had a biography on her too, so I looked through that several times. Her life was fascinating, but ultimately tragic and she died in 1969, the year I was born. She was only 47 years old when she died.
I also really like Liza Minnelli, Judy?s daughter. I recently bought the DVD of her Liza with a Z concert ? which has become one of my eleven-year-old daughter?s favourites! So, when I saw the DVD of a Palladium concert with both Judy and Liza, I knew it was something I wanted to watch ? and own.
Judy and Liza at the Palladium is the title on the spine...

The king and I with Josie Lawrence
Advantages: Josie Lawrence fantastic sets and clothes
Disadvantages: Lawrence kept her clothes on
...What have the following list got in common: Incense, Buddhist monks, half naked men, naked women, and Josie Lawrence got in common?
The answer is that combined they are factors that contributed to a fantastic day spent at the London Palladium to watch the performance of the “King and I”
The Creators
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hamerstein 11, who together brought us the musicals; Oklahoma (1943), Carousel (1945), Allegro(1947), South Pacific(1949), The King and I (1951) Me and Juliet (1953). Pipe Dream (1955), Flower Drum Song (1958) and The Sound of Music (1959).
Although the later musical is the most famous, I must say that this is far better in story and song.
The Stars
Josie Lawrence – Played Anna,
a teacher from England who is employed to teach the King of Siam’s many children.

The Hills are Alive
Advantages: Great songs
Disadvantages: None
...The Sound of Music is the recently opened musical in London's Palladium Theatre. This production of the musical that is based on the true, uplifting story of the Von Trapp family stars the recently discovered talent of Connie Fisher after the BBC TV show 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?'. The Sound of Music was the last collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and has become one of the most successful Oscar-winning film musicals of all time.
The score for The Sound of Music touches the hearts of all ages and brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.
This CD is the soundtrack from...

A FANTASTIC family day out
Advantages: Terrific atmosphere created
Disadvantages: A very emotional ending
...Looking for somewhere to take your nearest and dearest as a treat? Then look no further than the latest musical extravanganza to hit the Palladium – THE KING AND I.
This classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is a family favourite, and if you enjoyed the film adaptation “Anna and the King” this production, starring Josie Lawrence is guaranteed to please!
Everything from the stage sets down to the rappor between the cast adds to the magical feel of this show.
As the lights dimmed and four Buddhist monks climbed stairs and began to meditate, the smell of incense filled the air I knew we were in for a treat.
Lawrence, usually attributed to comic roles and well known for her facial expressions was a strong lead role. Her comic genius shone through in her performance and the developing romance between her...

...the time I saw an Elephant in my Pyjamas
Advantages: A true family show with superb cast!
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...There can be few people who at some time or another have not come across Ian Fleming’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Whether as a book or the film (which was adapted from the book by Roald Dahl, produced by Broccoli with songs by the Sherman brothers) Chitty has been providing entertainment since the 1960s. Now, with the skilful hand of Sams who provided the stage adaptation and Noble’s direction, Chitty has been brought, in full flying glory, to the London Palladium.
I love musical theatre and, as my user name might suggest, I am a bit of a kid at heart and so it was with utter joy that booked tickets to go and see Chitty; and where better to see such a masterpiece than the London Palladium, surely one of London’s finest.
Just in case anyone has managed to escape the world that is Chitty I will fill you in on a few...

I've seen a housefly...
Advantages: Great effects.
Disadvantages: Managed to make it rather boring.
...?but I ain?t never seen a car fly! (Sorry, couldn?t resist that one I?m afraid!)
The London Palladium has played host to many stars of stage and screen over the years since it opened in 1910. Stars such as Harry Houdini, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Julie Andrews. Recently it has played host to Jason Donovan and Philip Schofield as Joseph in Lloyd-Webbers popular Biblical Musical; Jonathan Pryce as Fagin from Oliver! and Elaine Paige as Anna Leonowens in The King and I.
Now it plays host to a whole host of stars in just one show. The £6.5 million pound ?fantasmagorical? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has arrived?
***THE HISTORY***
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was written by the James Bond author Ian Fleming and was published in 1964, the year Fleming died. Four years later it was turned into...

Chitty Chitty Squeak Squeak
Advantages: Great Show
Disadvantages: Rodent Attacks
...Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a film which I have never been overenamoured of. The songs are cute and frothy, but somehow it always seemed faintly boring until Chitty kicked into action.
The film has been faithfully transferred to the Stage at the London Palladium with a technically awesome Chitty.
The score has been plumped up a bit from the film with some extra music and reorchestrations.
It opens in black and white film mode with Chitty winning an epic road race, and the eponymous song creates the transition into the "present" as chitty crashes in her final race, due to sabotage by the Vulgarians. We see her in her wrecked state, and meet the two children, Truly Scruptious and Caractacus Potts played extremely well by Michael Ball (So far I have loathed Mr Ball in everything I have seen him in, but he really suits this part...
