Plaka Hotel, Athens
Advantages: Position, Price
Disadvantages: Basic (but plentiful) breakfast
...The Plaka Hotel is a real find. It is ideally situated at the foot of the Acropolis and is amongst ,or within easy walking distance, of many of Athens attractions. It is on the corner of a small side street just a hundred yards or so from the metro station that is at the end of the line from the airport. Some bedrooms do have a direct view to the Acropolis.
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the accomodation is generally clean and modern. Our room was quite small but not so much that it was a problem. There was an adequate amount of storage space. The bathroom was small and a bit dated but ok, considering the price! We paid £33 a night for a double room with breakfast and thought this was a real bargain. Make sure you compare sites for prices as they vary considerably.
The breakfast was quite basic but included...

I love Coast!!
Advantages: Gorgeous design, clothes that last and last, clothes that make you feel special
Disadvantages: Price
...Intro
Coast is my favourite shop in the world. The prices are such that I am unable to pop in and buy something every week (until I win the lottery that is!) . That aside I would rather save up for something special from Coast rather than go to the cheap shops I normally frequent all the time. The quality of the material is gorgeous, you always feel special in a Coast outfit and I love the design of nearly everything in the shop! You will also see below how everyone can afford something in Coast if they go there in the sales. Incidentally the stores are dotted all over Britian and there is nearly always one in your Debenhams, House of Fraser or Beatties.
The Clothes
The clothes are all of gorgeous quality, a lot of them being 100% silk. They have the classic strapless dresses (come with optional straps) which are timeless...

Luxury Hotel With Fabulous Beach Or Mountain Views
Advantages: Amazing beach and quality hotel with great service
Disadvantages: None really
...The Gold Coast International Hotel and Surfer Paradise is one of Australia's top venues. It is commonly called the GCI and despite its rather grand sounding name, it proved to be a friendly and relaxing place.
LOCATION
This 5* (listed as 4 or 4.5* in some places) is among the best I have stayed in. It is located 30 kilometres from Coolanguta and is a fabulous location not only for surfers, but also for families and couples. The main commercial centre is just half a kilometre away, so that's handy if you are there on business.
The beach is only fifty metres away and easily reached on foot and what a beach. If you have ever watched and longed for those golden Australian beaches shown on Australian soaps, this is it in real life. I could just imagine the cast of Home and Away, or Neighbours having a 'barbie' down there. My partner...

The Other Athens
Advantages: fun, charming and diverting city with plenty of interesting things to see and do; great variety of bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: has some shonky areas, may bring you to spend more than you'd like
...since been challenged. Why you would want to, I don't know, but it would make for an interesting mediation and negotiation session.
As far as accommodation goes, there is an enormous Holiday Inn in the centre of town - if you can't find a room here, you're struggling. But even if they are full, for whatever reason, there are still a few variously scary motels and hotels scattered around. Being a city where the focus is on living rather than touring, the selection may be limited, but it's not a resort town, so if you're after five-star luxury, you're better off somewhere a bit fancier and less student-oriented. The Holiday Inn we stayed at was perfectly adequate - comfortable, reasonable-sized rooms, without being ornate. It's pretty much the standard motel room you'd find anywhere. Not terrific, but not bad either.
Athens is...

Coast to Coast
Advantages: Some fantastic tracks
Disadvantages: Some not so good tracks
...Shane, Bryan, Kian, Nicky and Mark. They were signed by Simon Cowell and are currently managed by Louis Walsh. Since their formation the bands music has greatly evolved and moved from teen pop to contempary adult music. In 2004 Bryan left the band to work on solo projects but despite rumours the rest of the band carried on performing and are still performing today. Together the boys have released - albums, sold more than 40 million records worldwide and gained 14 number one singles in the UK Their albums are; Westlife, Coast to Coast, World of Our Own, Unbreakable, Turnaround, Allow us to be Frank, Face to Face, The Love Album, and Back Home. It is their second and 5x platinum album Coast to Coast, which was released in 2000, which I will today be reviewing.

The Amalfi Coast -----Is this the best scenic route in Europe???
Advantages: Breathtakingly beautiful.
Disadvantages: The road is not one for the feint of heart
...that are located precariously above the sea on the mountains.
Every turn you make on the meandering coastal road brings you to another lovely little village - Positano, Sorrento, Ravello or Amalfi itself.
The largest resort on the coastline is Amalfi. Amalfi lies within the steep Valle dei Mulini - and is a historic town that has some wonderful buildings .
Towards the sea there is the port, bus terminus and a selection of cafes and restaurants. To the west edge of town on the hillside is an old Cappuchin convent, that is now the Hotel Cappuccini Convento - reached by a lift of green girders - you will see many such lifts around the coast.
Above Amalfi high in the hills is the beautiful Ravello, hovering 1000 ft on the steep cliff. At Ravello are two incredible villas - Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone - you need to book to go...

Aristotelian logic tells me that this hotel is fab
Advantages: Free Wifi, helpful staff, airconditioning
Disadvantages: Bizarre fridge arrangements, terrible view
...Last year, I found out that my boyfriend would be going to a conference in Athens in June '08. I immediately decided that whether he wanted me to or not, I was going to be coming along. Well, not to the conference or anything but to Athens. I'd never been and did a bit of Greek history and archaeology at Uni, so I leapt at the chance. Although the conference organisers did suggest some hotels based on their local knowledge, it was also possible to just choose your own, and then the organisers would reimburse you for your accommodation after. Looking through Hotelclub.com, I came across the Aristoteles hotel. A quick perusal of reviews threw up the normal range of complaining Americans, whiny Brits, and obnoxious Aussies, but I've learnt to filter out any review that starts with "I have never been so disgusted in all my life...

The Art (Of Forgetting A Clothes Peg)
Advantages: Centrally placed with reasonable room rates. Nice staff. Well furnished
Disadvantages: Area never totally quiet - get a room at the back. No immediately obvious disabled facilities
...When I wrote about my experiences in Lisbon a few months back, I was taken to task for spending too much time describing the hotel, so this time, things are going to be a little different.
With a distinct sense of trepidation I'm going to write about a hotel as a stand-alone item for the first time ever, quaking at the thought of my opinion being compared to one by Ciao's very own 'unpaid hotel inspector', Uncle Bill's nephew himself, Richada!
I've just got back from 5 very enjoyable nights in Athens (and the days weren't bad either!).
Part of what made it enjoyable was our stay at The Art Hotel, Marni Street 27, Athens.
To be honest, it would be difficult to describe how to get there from the airport as we'd pre-booked a taxi, which ended up stuck in horrendous Monday night traffic, made worse by an obliging perfectly...

Live The Luxury!
Advantages: Too many. Everything!!!
Disadvantages: None
..., or at least an weekend to consider it free one) So we booked our self for 2 days on the main site of the hotel which is http://www.chandris.gr/athens/, for a corner suite, internet special 250 ?/day, checking in Friday and checking out Sunday, the amount resulted to be 500 ? with breakfast included.
Ok, all this was happening at the beginning of September, because again, we wouldn't have free time to be there on the 26th. Each period, from what I understood, has a different charge, but this depends on how booked is the hotel. Mainly being a business clientele that will check in, is always busy, but not full booked al the time. We can consider ourselves very lucky to find a corner suite, because they are the most wanted. You really have to book your self with 15 days before to be sure you'll find one free.
~~ So, till here everything ok...

Athens - Haven't You Grown Since I Saw You Last?
Advantages: Vibrant, cheap excellent public transport. Famous historic sites. Eating out
Disadvantages: Not as 'Greek' as it used to be. Poor air quality. The drivers!
...of Attica along with its seafront neighbour, Piraeus, the gap between them having 'healed up' since I was there last, and the metro takes 20 minutes from central Athens to the port area of Piraeus. Getting to Athens from southern England takes anywhere between 3.5 to 4.0 hours depending on flying conditions, so there's a hint of the 'long haul' to the flight, complete with movies. Greece has never been 'big' on railways so it would be a real labour of love to get there by train.
The newer Athens International Airport is a lot slicker than the old Kalamaki on the coast, but its new location feels a long way from town (more like London to Gatwick) as even our unhindered return taxi ride took 40 minutes. Fortunately, the outer tendrils of the Metro and a new Airport Express line connect you to the centre, the latter running down the centre...
