Advantages: Decent performance, cheap, you can tell you're mates "I got one too!"
Disadvantages: Not as fast as Pentium 4 rated at same speed, not future proof

AMD's Athlon XP 1800+
Advantages: Good performance for the price
Disadvantages: none, but perhaps a little long in the tooth now.
..., and will no doubt be cheaper still now. if you are looking to built a reasonably specced pc on a budget, then an athlon xp around this speed is dead worth it. we're talking Ł40 quid here.

note : this cpu has a fsb of 133mhz. therefore you will need to use a compatible athlon motherboard that supports the athlon xp and this bus speed. in addition you will need 266mhz (2x133) ddr ram...

I have found very little difference in performance between them all, but I am sure that the performance is greater the higher the size of processor you get. I guess what I am saying is that once you get to the 1800+ processor, you don't really notice the increased performance as...
