AMD Athlon XP 2600
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 2.08 GHz processor by  positivereflect

Advantages: Fast 333mhz bus speed, Easy to install, Cheaper than other brands.
Disadvantages: May not work in all motherboards

...After searching around for a new processor for my computer, and seeking recomendations from various computer shops, i was given two choices: 1/ AMD Athlon XP 2/ Intel Pentium 4 Owing to the fact that Intels Pentium 4 2.0ghz was roughly twice the price of the Athlon XP 2600 2.08Ghz, I opted for AMD`s Offering. As i opted for an OEM processor, it came with no manual or Heatsink and fan (Retail versions come with both) Installation was fairly simple: Flip open the lever on motherboard Socket, put the Athlon XP in, flip the lever back down, Add Thermal paste to CPU die (centre portion of CPU), Fit heatsink and fan unit. Once installed, i had to go into the bios setup and set the FSB to 166mhz (some boards use jumpers). After leaving the bios setup, i was greeted with a boot up screen telling me i had An AMD Athlon XP 2600. Everything... Read review

The AMD AthlonXP 2600+? 3200+ more like
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 1.92 GHz processor by  Sebworld

Advantages: Fast, Excellent MHz/£ ratio, Highly Overclockable
Disadvantages: Hotter than Intel P4s, Die is more fragile.

...The AMD AthlonXP 2600+ is in my opinion the best choice for those of you thinking of upgrading, or even buying a new system. And of course I will now tell you why. Speed ----------- Running at an FSB of 166MHz, with the help of DDR we double that to 333MHz, the Athlon 2600+ has the equivalent speed of a Pentium 4 2.5GHz (in terms of general use) and because of its optimization with Windows XP boasts Windows processing performance better than Pentiums running faster than 2.7GHz. In simpler terms it out-performs the Pentium equivalents in every day-to-day tasks. For games the Athlon runs just as well if not better than the Pentium 4 2.6GHz. The only thing that AThlon XP processors seem to be slower at is hard-core video and music processing (in otherwords putting together a video clip and turning .WAV files into MP3s etc... Read review

One of the best. Cheap and fast
Review of ASRock K7S8X R3.0 - motherboard - ATX - SiS746FX by  beanp-271

Advantages: Hybrid booster, AGP 8X, 5.1 Onboard sound
Disadvantages: Extremely difficult to succesfully upgrade BIOS

...'t support the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU, and once again, it failed. So I did what everyone else would do, and gave up. But while it lasted, it was a great motherboard, very fast and reliable, and I reccomend you buy it if you have an AthlonXP processor, just dont try to upgrade the BIOS.... Read review

AMD 2600+ XP 333FSB - good upgrade chip
Review of AMD AthlonXP by  pob0782

Advantages: powerful, cheap, stable
Disadvantages: none

...Having had an AMD chip in my last machine (Athlon 1.1Ghz) I have been impressed over the past 3 years as to the stability and consistency of the processor. I have never really had any major problems with the processor - apart from the processor fan failing - and, therefore, decided to stick with AMD for an upgrade. I had a good look around, and decide on the 2600+ chipset with the 333 FSB. This will (with the correct motherboard) allow the use of DDR400 RAM which leads to performance gains. The chip itself only set me back £75 (PC World Component Centre), and along with a new motherboard, memory (512Mb) and a new 450 power supply, the entire upgrade cost me around £350. Now, considering that a new machine would have cost me in the region of £1500 upwards, this worked out as a very good solution. Since purchasing the new equipment... Read review

...for one of these chips on ebuyer.co.uk is £48.70 (taken on 17th August) The price may have changed when you read this article. I would definitely recommend this Chip and i use no other than AMD for processors and the athlon XPs are great and provide amazing performance. Dual Athlon MP motherboard from Gigabyte
Review of Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW+ - motherboard - ATX - AMD-760 MPX by  positivereflect

Advantages: Supports all Athlon MP processors, CPU plug and play,
Disadvantages: Not many overclock options, tempremantal onboard raid, registered memory recommended

...Deciding to upgrade my computer as i could not do many things at once, i looked into the options available. My current pc at the time being an Amd Athlon XP 2600+ (which is still pretty fast), i was after something faster but not too expensive (and as i am an AMD fanatic it had to be an AMD). After much searching and forum checking, i had three options: 1/ Upgrade to Athlon 64 Pros: Newest processor offering from AMD, PCI express on most motherboards, Dual Channel memory support, My current memory will work fine. Cons: Might mean purchase of new video card, Might mean purchase of new Power supply, 2/ Upgrade to AMD Opteron Pros: Newest server/workstation based processor offering from AMD, PCI express on most motherboards, Dual Channel memory support, Cons: Might mean purchase of new video card, Might mean purchase of new Power... Best socket A processor
Review of AMD Athlon XP 2600+ / 2.08 GHz processor by  kennygifford

Advantages: Fast, cheap, potential
Disadvantages: Misunderstood

...THis processor is the 2800+ model, which runs at 2.08Ghz. I was always a fan of AMD but when I started to really learn the differences between them and their Intel competition I started to LOVE them. I currently have this CPU running on my main PC, which I prefer to the Athlon 64 3000+ I also have. Granted the 64 has more number-crunching ability, however for the price and limitations it has, the XP soars forward. The temperature and voltage of this CPU may be relatively high, but for it's age it's a cracker. A bog-standard fan assembly will do fine, but personally I have bigger copper version, and my CPU hardly goes above 40*C. During gaming this CPU has no problems at all and keeps Battlefield 2 running online at full graphics. Obviously, with a little help from it's AGP card and memory friends. No CPU lag here, even with my... Read review

Is the Athlon XP a P4 beater
Review of AMD AthlonXP by  pkiddie

Advantages: Value for money, Speed.
Disadvantages: CPU Temperature

...Well in a word 'Yes!' I have an XP processor in my present computer, and it has been solid as a rock from the word go! AMD processors before the Athlon always had the stigma that they were never as good for games as the Intel equivalent, and to a degree, those feelings were true.. even the Celeron beat the K6-2 and K6-3 in games frame rates etc. This meant games which were responsive on the Celeron didn't have a hope on the equivalent K6. This made the AMD processor more of a business workhorse, coming out on top for all things business! Well things have certainly moved on since then, and ever since the introduction of the Athlon processor, tables have turned in AMD's favour. They have been working hard on pummelling resources into improving the floating point unit of the processor (the part of the processor that does all the number... Read review

Small but powerful!!
Review of Shuttle SN 45G - no CPU by  marie_louise

Advantages: good looking, tiny, full featured
Disadvantages: Need limited knowledge of computers

...The Shuttle XPC is one of a new breed of computers. They are defined as a "Barebones" system. This means that you just slot in your choice of processor (AMD or Pentium), Memory, Graphics Card, optical drives, hard drive etc. The Shuttle XPC is a good choice for anyone who is fed up of their giant beige box PC. They come with either a black or aluminium chassis. You can also purchase extra cases to change your XPC to blue, red, pink or yellow. I can hear you saying "this sounds really good and its all half the size of a regular PC but it can't be as powerful as a normal PC". Well basically you can make your XPC what you want it to be. For example my XPC is more powerful than my brothers regular size PC! I chose an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ processor which runs perfectly in the shuttle. You can choose all the latest specifications...
