...I bought this system back in August from ASDA electricals (on behalf of Elonex) for £464.95 (+ £12 delivery charge) with standard 1 yr warranty. The system arrived 3 days later. Around that time only and at that price I got AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core Processor, integrated 256mb PCI Express Graphics card and 7.1 Surround Sound, 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM, 320GB Maxtor DiamondMax 21 SATA-II Hard Disk, 18x Samsung DVD-Rewriter Multiformat inc. dual layer, 20" LCD monitor with speakers, Multi-Card Reader, Microsoft Keyboard & Optical Mouse. The Operating system (OS) is XP Home (XP Pro would be nice, XP Pro 64-bit even better). All software and drivers are pre-installed. ...I bought this processor, new motherboard, new video card and windows vista home premium to upgrade my old PC which my son now uses for gaming. I may review the motherboard etc. later. I researched this processor on the web first, and decided on this based on comparing prices and performance with what I need, rather than what I might want, and it does all I need. Essentially the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is simply two cores (processors)at 3GHz with 1MB of L2 cache per core. This means that you are getting a pretty fast processor which, although launched nearly a year ago, still runs all known games as far as I am aware. ...I had this laptop for a while and it was the perfect machine i could ask for whilst it was mine. Before you ask, NO, i did not throw it away! i gave it to my sister and brought another desktop pc for myself. The Design Acer always seem to make nice looking machines in my opinion and this is no exception.The Travelmate 5520G-5A1G12 is a stylish laptop in full black casing apart from the mouse scrolling interface. ...AMD has been on the decline after Intel introduced its core 2 Duo line of processors. It has been late on 65 nm process and they are paying for that. They had the market under total control just one year ago, but now they have lost even their loyal customers. AMD has to produce something very powerful and should be done quickly or they will even lose the small share that they has got. Coming to the processor, Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is a midrange processor to compete Intel in the midrange segment. It is powerful but not enough to beat Intel's counter parts. I got this processor in the PC which my uncle gifted to me. So, I have got it free. ...Acer E380 I picked one of these up at comet on sale sue to a shop refurbished and as such got a display model for a bargain price of £299.99, excitement and a sense of smugness when other customers were piped to the post by me, ok it didn't have a box and need some spit and polish but it was cheap and for what it is mega cheap! ...useful and even though i don't make it out to be one, it is rather "ok". Plus, who can turndown an offer that cheap when it also comes with a 19 inch screen, which is MASSIVE (in my opinion). The Dell Inspiron 531 can handle 6 usbs at one time, takes normal memory cards and has easy and accessible jacks for headphones etc. Furthermore it already has Dvd writer capabilty and you can add another disk drive your self.
