How would you like a 9800XT for Pro prices?
Review of Connect3D RADEON 9800 Pro by IG88

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Overclockable to an XT Easily
Disadvantages: Slightly dated compared to X800/850

...have to do to get the card to operate at a much higher level is to flash your cards bios with the XT version from you card manufacturer (in this case Connect 3D). This is not even as hard as it sounds, and can be completed in less than an hour. There are many guides to this on the internet, all you need to do is do a search in google. Also, there is a very attractive option to mod your card into a FirGL X 1/2. For those of you who do not know what a FireGL card, it is ATI's workstation card: A lot better than their standard cards, but a LOT more expensive. However, you are required to physicaly mod your card to perform this conversion, which means voiding your warranty. This mod is not as simple as the first, and requires some skill at soldering. But, the risk is more than worth the performance benefits.... Read review

ATI Rage 128 Fury Video Display Adapter
Review of ATI RAGE FURY by Trev1000

Advantages: well priced and bundled with utils
Disadvantages: none

...A great quality easily affordable video graphics display card for a PC. I have used the ATI range of cards for over 3 years now and have never had reason to complain. The picture quality is and has been always superb, and when it comes to installation, it’s a breeze. The manufacturer offers excellent support with both online documentation and with instructions that come with the product. On top of this most of their hardware comes with additional software that can be used for many other things. For example with 128 fury the hardware is fitted with an output that you can connect to a TV or Video source with easy to follow instruction and software that makes viewing DVD films really simple. Even more than that, the software basic package gives you other utilities for playing Cds midis etc. The ATI range are fully compatible... Read review

The card ATI was just waiting to unleash
Review of ATI RADEON DDR by thepanther

Advantages: Blistering speed, lots of features
Disadvantages: pretty pricey

...The Radeon from ATI has firmly established itself as one of the top 3 cards in the ever tightning 3D Graphics card business. ATI have not been known in the past for releasing mind blowing speed cards, but for there more user friendly, does the job cards, like the All in Wonders, which offer loads of features but were never going to take the games market by storm. The Radeon certainly changed all this with the ability leave the Voodoo 5 5500 well behind in speed tests. The Geforce 2 hold a firm grip at the top I believe in terms of speed but its still close. To ATI's advantage though the Radeon does come with hardware T&L and anti-alaising, The Geforce has T&L but it allways did and its nothing new in the card. This cards performs well, and the Voodoo 5 5500 can basically see its dust. ATI say that this card has everything you could... Read review

Blistering gaming card from ATI

Great Card
Review of Sapphire RADEON 9200SE Atlantis by Matt1eD

Advantages: Perfect for work and old (not too demanding) games
Disadvantages: not the most cutting edge card. Not Direct X 9

...I am not an ATi man, but this card is excellent. OK, it isn't going to play games such as Doom3, Half Life 2 e.t.c. and any serious gamer will hate it (and almost certainly prefer the non SE edition). However if you primarily use your computer for I got this card for a bit under £30 and it is great. I get good frame rates in Wolfenstein ET & of course in the old Half Life games. It does high resolutions too (so long as your monitor can handle that resolution, bit range and refresh rate). There is no whirring HSF (thankfully not an nVidia one!), just a heatsink - for that overclocking this card would not be a good decision. I am going to fit watercooling and so take of the LARGE heatsink on it. If you are wanting to overclock it should be known that ATi Tool does not support overclocking this card (as it is locked). Either download... Read review

Good
Review of DVD Player Complete package by Spiders

Advantages: One very good player
Disadvantages: nothing much

...Clarity is very good. The gap between WinDVD and Cinemaster for overall video quality was always small, but it gets closer to even now. ATI beats The Patriot every try (WinDVD sometimes gets by and sometimes not), and ATI's new adjustment sliders finally give users needed tweaks to video output that make the race even tighter. Menus strained a bit on ATI 4.1, several titles suffered slowdowns when loading the root menu or selecting menu items. This may be indicative of a change in how Cinemaster handles Alpha Blending acceleration. Menus and screen text are accelerated through a process called Alpha Blending, and issues with menu jerking/hesitation are often due to poor Alpha Blending implementation. Speed Control playback was very good overall. I should say its actually one of the best, but the passage of time again dims the opinion... Read review

Stonking card - 3Dfx and Nvidia fans watch out
Review of ATI RADEON DDR by CyrixDes

Advantages: excellent performance, good specs
Disadvantages: probably be expensive on initial release

...ATI have always had a reputation as the nearly boys of the video card market. They have always been able to produce reasonably cheap video cards, with excellent DVD playback and TV Out facilities, in fact the best video cards for DVD playback are ATI cards. However whilst releasing cards like the Rage Fury MAXX, theyve always been a couple of months too late in terms of releasing their cards in comparison with the competition. However I have it on very good advice that theyve made the break through with their new 64Mb ATI Radeon DDR. I have seen a number of interesting benchmarks pitting this card against the Voodoo 5 5500, a couple of GeForce 2's and a GeForce DDR 256. Before summarising these results I ask you to remember that the ATI card is on its first release, non tweaked drivers, whereas the GeForce cards are using NVIDIAS... Read review

ATI driver
Review of Toshiba Equium A60-155 - Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz - 15" TFT by monumental

Advantages: cheap, aesthetically pleasing
Disadvantages: some are sold with faulty ATI drivers.

...I own one of these laptops and feel obliged to tell you immediately the problem i have had with it from day one. every time i tried to turn the notebook on it would struggle to load up and reset itself a few times before successfully loading. I searched on the internet and was surprised to find that many people who own this model had the same problem. it is actually a problem caused by the ATI graphics driver that is installed to the computer. it causes a blue screen to appear alerting you that your ATI driver is stuck in an infinite loop. This then crashes the display driver (you know when everything goes big on your screen). Please note this does not happen with every single model, some may work perfectly, but it happens on quite a few, u'll have to take a chance Further research on the internet proved that the only known... Nice motherboard - but incompatability issues with ATI Expert2000
Review of ASUS ALi Chipset P5A - motherboard - ATX - ALADDiN V by daveashcroft

Advantages: Inexpensive, reliable and well set out
Disadvantages: ATI card incompatability with ALI chipset

...I bought my P5A a couple of months ago, and was pretty pleased with allround performance, it got on well with my K6-2 500. Everything was all fine and dandy in fact, until i bought an ATI Expert2000. There are some serious compatability problems with this card, and I would suggest that erveryone should steer clear of this particular combination. I have however managed to get around the problems with carefully varying the driver versions for motherboard (AGP/IDE) and the graphics card. I have also had a lot of contact through newsgroups with other users having the same problems as me, however the problem is that ASUS blames ATI and vice versa. Back to the motherboard though - apart from the problems with ATI cards, its very nice indeed. Its a well set out board which allows wiring without haveing cables everywhere - and its not too... Want a quiet computer, try this!
Review of Connect3D Radeon 9600 by Darkle

Advantages: Quick n' Quiet, Passive cooling
Disadvantages: Not as fast as XT equivilents

...The ATi Radeon 9600 is in my opinion one of the greatest advances in modern GFX technology. Yet it seems to have completly passed most people by. I used to be asked what the best Graphics card would be for a quiet system, and now I always say the Radeon 9600 non-pro. The reasons? It is completly passive, it will work in pretty much any case as long as there is some air flow. It's a Direct-X 9 core, so it will play most of the modern upcoming games, and has all the nice pixel shader effects, bump mapping etc. It's surprisingly fast. This is where I think most people don't really appreciate what a brilliant piece of engineering this was on ATis part. In a reasonably fast system say 2.8ghz P4 with 1024mb ram, you can expect scores of about 9000-11000 in 3DMark 2001SE. To give you an idea of comparison, a radeon 9700 will get... Read review
