Advantages: good card for the money

...Having built machines using the ATI Xpert 2000 pro (nice cheap all purpose card) I needed to upgrade my own system to something faster as my Viper II was objecting to a lot of the new games and support from Diamond had dried up. I decided to try the ATI Radeon 7200 which was reasonably priced and seemed to offer a bit more than the Xpert cards. The retail pack contains the card, manuals, CD and loads of cables and connectors for hooking up to a TV (the card has TV out as standard as well as VGA). Once installed in the machine, Windows identifies the card as a standard PCI VGA card and up it comes with no problems. Then comes the driver intallation. The CD autoruns and gives you a number of options of which one is intall. This gives you the option to install the card drivers and mulitmedia center (version 7.2 with the DVD player... Read review

The card isn't too power hungry, it works fine on my 350W power supply that was supplied with my budget pc (£235 but powerful nevertheless) So far you'd think this card was a really great buy. and don't get me wrong, i love it. but unfortunately i didn't realise you could buy an ATI radeon 9550 with 256Mb RAM and a nearly identical performance for cheaper. It can easily be overclocked with no extra cooling to outperform my 9600 pro, and i've been slated a few times off computer geeks for not knowing this before. If i were you, i'd definately buy this if you're looking for a cheap but powerful graphics card to work on graphics processing / CAD, but also if you're a light-medium gamer who isn't too serious, although seriously consider the 9550 before you go ahead and buy a 9600. Advantages: Cheap and fast and stuff!

...Just when you thought it would be safe to peek around the door after NVIDIA and ATI were bombarding you with top of the range graphics cards, ATI takes a cheapshot and flings an ATI Radeon X800 XL card into your bollocks. You wouldn't press charges on them either, because this is one fine card. Now, those of you familiar with the graphics war between ATI and NVIDIA will know that before this card there was the GEFORCE 6800 GT and GEFORCE 6800 Ultra from NVIDIA. and the RADEON X800 Pro and RADEON X850 XT PE from ATI. Those cards are what you call top of the range, the best cards are called the 'flagship' cards. Anyways, the problem with those super high speed cards has always been the same thing. Advantages: Small, practically weightless, high tech, durable, gives you KILLER graphics, perfect for games.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, uses up a lot of pc power

...The ATI Radeon 9800 is amazing. But it isnt cheap. That has to be the first thing to be pointed out. You can get an acceptable laptop at such a price: 200 GBP. Unless you are REALLY into games and 3D game designing and developing, I dont reccommend you buy it. Seriously- you dont need that much power! Me...I just bought it because I'm a computer geek, and because I had quite a large budget. If you are buying a laptop or PC with this graphics card, then the price will obviously increase significantly. If you have recently bought a laptop or PC over the last year, you seriously do NOT need to buy this graphics card. Your laptop would almost certainly have a graphics card, and if its a high tech one then it will probably have ATI Radeon 9600 or 9200 with 64MB of RAM. That is enough to run the most complicated and most performance... Read review

...So here we have it ladies and gents, a graphics card that would rock your wok, own up your games and make that smug look on your mate's face vanish like somebody kick him between the legs. You will get all this, for a price of course. This card comes with everything standard that other Radeon cards come with such as AGP 8x support, 2 monitor ports, 1 S-Video port and a massive heatsink/fan with it's name on it. Installation is a sinch. Just open up PC, remove old graphics card, slide this graphics into it's place, screw it in and it's installed. Hard part would be wondering if you should upgrade the RAM and/or CPU in case it's a bottleneck. The Creative ATI Radeon 9800 XT is a very fast graphics card. It comes with 256MB DDR video RAM and has the a highly clocked GPU core and RAMDAC clock speed. I can play Far Cry at 64 FPS... Read review

The Radeon does not do FSAA in 1280 x 1024 but neither does the Geforce 2, the voodoo 5 however does but at that res I doubt the slower speed of the voodoo would be able to cope too well anyway. Full MPEG 1 and 2 decoders are hardware assisted meaning DVD playback is not a problem, and the need for a dedicated decoder has long gone. It provides TV in and out so you can watch your movies on your TV or even do video capture, one of ATI's specialities. The quality of FSAA and some of the other features of the Radeon are not as good as some of them on the voodoo 5 5500 but would you rather have a cool looking T-Buffer or blistering games performance, the choice...
