Sick of the Atkins

Advantages: weight loss and health benefits for diabetics etc.
Disadvantages: restrictive diet and illness

...I seem to be going against the grain here so I conclude I am a rare case (as I often am when it comes to health issues) but Atkins just made me sick. Yes, I lost weight, but at what cost? We decided to have a look in one of Doctor Atkins book and have a read of it before we decided to do it or not. We thought that it sounded quite good and give it a go. What you have to do is cut the amount of carbohydrates you eat to 20 grams a day, for two weeks. This means cutting out pasta, rice, potatoes and high carbohydrate bread. You can eat loads of meat, vegetables (only certain ones, you’ll have to look in the book to know exactly what.), fish and nuts. I could tell you exactly what but you would get bored. However as no other diet on the planet had ever really worked for me long term I thought I would give it a go despite a somewhat negative response to my plan from my parents (both doctors). ...the weight loss is a real reward. The 3rd day in I felt awful, I had sugar & caffeine withdrawal - dizzyness ,nausea a bit like a massive hangover. This passed by the 4th day I felt fine. I then progressed through the following 2 stages in the book, adding foods. The diet was no longer restrictive and I was still losing weight. I lost 2st 6lb in 26 weeks and now feel brilliant. It was all done without the hunger and cravings felt on other diets.
