...it comes to accommodation and I won't just stay anywhere. Mr & Mrs Bedbug B&B, for me is out of the question, call me a snob but I would rather sleep in the car..lol. Upon arriving in the centre of Newquay you can see a huge hotel on the cliffs, which to me looked like a perfect hotel to stay in, driving up the bank to the hotel, we noticed that there was a wedding party there, so I wasn't counting my chickens however we parked up in the carpark, went inside and luckily they had a double room available at a cost of £45 per night per person including breakfast. Thats it we will take it. The hotel that we stayed in was the Atlantic Hotel. The hotel was purposely built in 1892 and is the largest hotel currently in Newquay. Advantages: Beautiful setting

...Stepping off the plane at 21.00 hours in Ponta Delgada, on Sao Miguel in the Azores the humidity hit me. WOW. It was hot, I was tired and hadn't expected this level of humidity. Thankfully we quickly collected our cases and didn't have any passport control to queue in, as we had flown in from Lisbon. Our tour operator was waiting as we came into the arrival hall and whisked off to our destination. Twenty minutes and many bends and bumps later we turned a corner and saw a large hotel block, lit up and sparkling against the dark sky, standing beside the Atlantic ocean, with a high tree covered backdrop or should I say side drop! The long driveway through the gardens with lovely trees and flowers prepared us for the serene and calm entrance to this otherwise pink concrete block. Advantages: Free flight , hotel and food
Disadvantages: Had to come home ventually

...levels to put the thrid flight back on. As such , flights are becoming more overbooked. This becomes particularly so at the weekends , Friday , Saturday and Sunday. When we were returning on Friday 14th June on VS0024 the flight was overbooked. The Airlines need to find people to take delays i.e. to stay another day. Most people take great offence to this "We have paid to fly on this plane so we will". What they don't know is the compensation available. BA used to be money - I don't know what they currently do. Virgin give you a Free Flight , put you up in a Hotel overnight and free Food. Ignoring my youngest son who is only 1 , we received three Free Flights (which can be used anytime for 18 Months to anywhere that Virgin Atlantic Travel). ...The Corinthia Atlantic Hotel in Banjul is advertised as a four star hotel but I would not rate it at above 3 stars. It is located right on the beach as many of the hotels are in Gambia - be aware that this is a man made beach that will apparently disappear into the sea in the next 20 years unless they build a new one! The hotel has over 200 rooms and 4 suites so I can imagine that it can get very busy in the peak season months. We visited in August which is low season - due to it being "wet season". Indeed we were very lucky with the weather it was hot and sunny most days but there were a couple of amazing thunderstorms. We booked our hotel through the Gambia Experience on Expedia as 4* allocated on arrival and here is the first gripe -all 4* allocated on arrival bookings go to the Corinthia Atlantic so there is no chance... ...and slippers, Desk area with Fax machine and usual internet and dial up ports. The lounge area then had a 3 piece suite and another tv. However the highlight of the room was that we were on the end of the building and so had floor to ceiling windows on two sides... The concierge was very keen to help with our luggage issue and chased BA all through the day for updates. He also recommended a Retail park out of town for clothes in preference to the often highly expensive Victoria and Albert Shopping mall. Exhausted on our first evening we decided to eat in the Atlantic restaurant in the Hotel. An exquisite 6 course meal followed with very attentive waiting staff and a sommelier who recommended the most fantastic wines for us. ...Having decided on The Gambia for our winter sun holiday, we chose the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel in Banjul for its location away from the more crowded beach resorts along the Atlantic coast in spite of some rather negative reviews we had read. First impression was one of drab brown, beige and dark corridors and a similarly dated room with cigarette burned curtains sagging from missing curtain hooks, brown bedspreads and brown floor tiles. Everywhere was dark from too small energy saving light bulbs. The bathroom was rather dated, and evidently the Gambians are not great at tiling and grouting. However, having said that, the overall atmosphere at the hotel was friendly and easygoing, it was spotlessly clean, and after a day we never noticed any of it again. Advantages: Lovely little hotel
Disadvantages: Limited amenities, but what do youe expect for 2*...?

...-height lobby, winding staircase, original glass-ball railings and multi-level mezzanine - it's all really impressive when you walk in. Decorative details such as the ornate Chinese mirrored panels, and the etched glass recessed wall panels were meticulously restored, and exact replicas were made of the original chandeliers, sconces, and maple and mirror registration desk. A new wood and glass bar curves along one wall. The Winterhaven Hotel is a small hotel, and is located directly across from the Atlantic Ocean towards the top of Ocean Drive. Although not right "in the thick of things", it's only 2 minutes walk from where things are a bit busier, and you'll appreciate that when it's time to sleep and a million drunk tourists are partying hard out of earshot down the street... Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service
Disadvantages: In the wrong place.

..., we were checked in in just a few minutes, all was explained Breakfast Times, location of Restaurant and Sophies Bar. We were given Adjoining Ground Floor rooms at the front, and although this is where the Car Park and Road are, we had very quiet nights. The corridors of the Hotel remind us of an Old Cruse Liner, low ceilings and lots of dark brown wooden panels, perhaps a bit too dark. Plenty of leather seating areas. The walls are covered with Photos and Posters showing what an important Stop Over Shannon used to be when planes needed to refuel for the Tran Atlantic trip. Many stars of the past, Monroe, Laurel and Hardy. Historic photos of old air travel, when they used to have Bunks (Perhaps not such a new idea). ...Seteais is part of the amazing set of the Serra de Sintra (Sintra Mountain, in English), not more than 30 km from Lisbon. For those who don't now this area, Sintra is a very special place. Is the highest mountain (300 m only) near Lisbon and at the same time it's close to Cascais and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean coast. This proximity to the ocean gives to Sintra its only microclimate, foggy and wet, with a mystic touch, no matter what. That's why Sintra is such an exuberant place, where everything is green and fresh throughout the year. That was also the main reason why Sintra became the place where most nobles and even the Portuguese royal family build their summer houses. ...The Atlantic Hotel is not a pretty place but it is worth considering, particularly if you are a family looking for a short break. The hotel is not bang in the centre of Liverpool but it is fairly adjacent to the main shopping centre if you do not mind a short walk. The food and decor are about average but are of a pretty good standard so it is unliklet that you will find much to coplain about. During the week it will be mainly used by business men or for conferences but it will be quiter over the weekend. I am recommending this for a family short break because you can take advantage of the offers that are available from the hotel or through Highlife. If you have not got a Highlife brochure see your travel agent for they are well worth having. The 'free children' offers are well worth taking up and will save a bob or two. Parking... Read review
