...I always try to fly Virgin Atlantic if I can, but often their prices are a lot more expensive than other airlines and so more often than not, I can’t justify the extra cost. I’ve flown with them on 2 separate occasions, once from Gatwick to Miami (April 2000) and the other was from Heathrow to New York JFK (December 2000) and on both occasions, I’ve been very impressed. On the outbound New York flight, I was upgraded to Premium Economy but I’ll talk about that later. ...Way back in 1993 I used Virgin Atlantic for a return flight to Boston from London Gatwick & was left very impressed. In 2006, we decided to have a fly/drive holiday in New England & use Virgin for the return flight to Boston from London Heathrow. Heathrow airport is a pain to use, but Virgin has become the preferred carrier across the Atlantic now that BA have lost the plot & it's a small price to pay if it means using a decent airline. The Virgin flights worked out at about £430 per passenger for economy, not the cheapest at the time but still cheaper than BA. The journey started in Scotland on a bright Saturday morning in September, the BA check in staff were their usual 'look at you as though you were dirt on their shoes'. ...On the 12th of march 2003 i was flying to Boston with Virgin atlantic. This was my first transatlantic trip and it was for a damn good reason, i was seeing my favourite band, CKY. Now, i'm not too keen on flying and the current political situation in the world didn't help to put my mind at ease in the slightest (in fact Gulf war - strike II started the day after a got back!) Despite my nerves i was really excited when i got to Heathrow airport. The virgin atlantic check-in desks were easy to find, everything is bright red so it's pretty hard to miss! We arrived at the airport at around 9:30am for our 14:30 flight, slightly early but after reading the opinions of others it seemed wise to leave a good few hours before the queues started. ...My Wife , two sons and I have just returned from Los Angeles flying with Virgin Atlantic. We took flight VS0023 outbound andnVS0024 inbound but this works just aswell with VS0007 outbound and VS0008 inbound. Just as with British Airways , Virgin Atlantic make it a policy to overbook their flights. The reason being is that some people have open tickets so they may or may not take up their seat that day. Airlines have traditionally overbooked by 10/15%. The big key reason why this is working so well is September 11th. Many Airlines reduced the number of flights to the likes of Los Angeles - e.g. both Virgin and British Airways dropped one flight a day. Doesn't sound much but we are talking about 500/700 seats a day just from those two airlines. However , transatlantic travel is now picking up again but not to sufficient... Read review

Advantages: Excellent Staff, Entertainment and Very Comfortable - also inexpensive

...I recently made a round trip from London Heathrow to New York JFK flying with Virgin Atlantic, from the second I boarded the plane I was instantly impressed with the proffesionalism and friendliness of the Staff on board. Amenity Kit In your seat waiting for you on the plane along with the usual cushion and pillow is the Virgin Amenity Kit containing Virgin Vie Lip Balm, Smint Sweets, Ear Plugs, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Rubber Duck, Face Mask and Virgin Vie Cologne wipe. Although this isn't much it really does make you feel special and you receive two kits one on each leg of your flight, I also noticed that kid's on the flight received their own special backpack of goodies. Entertainment TV - The Entertainment on the Virgin Atlantic is certainly not to be sniffed at with about 6 Channels of Movies (both the usual flix... Read review

Advantages: Fabalous flying experience - these people are not Virgin at giving people a great flying experience! (Sorry about the pun, I couldn't help myself!)
Disadvantages: Virgin do not yet have a very big choice of destinations to choose from, but they are always expanding!

...If you have to fly somewhere and Virgin Atlantic provide flights there then I highly recommend you fly with them. But why I hear you ask, well if excellent customer service and amenities even in the cheapest seats are what you are looking for, then Virgin is the way to go. I allways find Virgin products and services seem to be a cut above the rest and their airline is no exception! I was hugely impressed with the service that I have received on my Virgin Atlantic flight, both at the airport and in the air. The staff were very helpfull and attentive, they also looked very very smart unlike some other airlines I know (That may be antoher op!). Also, every seat on my transatlantic flight from Heathrow had their own viewing screen in the seat in front of them, so there's no need to try to get a view of the main screen 10 rows... Read review

...Ok, so I have always heard the hype of Virgin Atlantic. Lets face it, they are hard to miss when they are owned by Sir Richard Branson! I was off on holidays to Sydney and decided to treat myself to Upper Class. The day came and I had already arranged the Limo service through Virgin Atlantic. The Limo service I understand is only available on some Upper Class Tickets (i,.e the non discounted ones). The Limo arrived on time, just in time to hit the rush hour traffic in London. My friendly driver told me lots about what my experience over the next 24hours would involve....Spa treatments....excellent Inflight entertainment.....lovely crew.....modern aircraft! Fantastic. We arrived at London Heathrow Terminal three. Well Virgin Atlantics private part of T3. VAA have an area called drive through check in. As the Limo pulls up a lovely... Read review

...Who hasn't heard of the almost mythical experience in luxury that flying Virgin Atlantic represents? The Virgin Clubhouse lounges, the on-board massseuse and manicurist, the bar right there in the cabin, the fully reclining beds...the list is endless. But what about economy class? Was there any trickle-down effect, or was the difference enough to effect a Marxian-style revolution (sorry way too much philosophy/history this semester!) My father was eager to find out and so booked us on Virgin Atlantic from New Delhi to London on our summer vacation to Europe this summer, and needless to say, we came away thoroughly disillusioned with the Virgin myth. What on earth had all those people who had recommended Virgin raved about? This flight was the pits, and needless to say, I was not too pleased with the prospect of flying back to the US... ...Now I’m not a fan of flying, I’ll make that clear at the start. It’s not that I have a fear of crashing to a watery grave in the mid-Atlantic, or the thought of watching my family disappear out of the roof in a mid-air collision. It’s the style in which you travel. A flight home from America usually consists of being elbowed or snored at by the unconscious person next to you, eating prison food, being kicked in the back for 8 hours by the world’s most obnoxious seven year old, and not being allowed to smoke. I was quite surprised by the care that Virgin Atlantic take to make your trip a comfortable one.
