Micro ATX board
Advantages: Good stable board
Disadvantages: Not many PCI slots
...Motherboards are critical to any computer. The selection is wide and the features each contains need to be closely looked at.
I was building a new PC and I came across this motherboard. It is a micro ATX board so is alot smaller than any ATX board so therefore has the disadvantage of not having much opportunity for expansion.
There are only three PCI slots which is fine if you do not require many but considering that a modem, soundcard and now wireless cards need PCI slots then this does not leave many options if you wish to install these.
The board itself has many features and comes with onboard graphics and sound. The advantage of this is that money is saved on needing to buy a graphics card and sound card. The disadvantage of this is that if you do use the onboard graphics it uses your system memory and therefore can slow...

Top Board
Advantages: Great performance,compatibility
Disadvantages: Failures in install
...We have just come to the end of PC installs at work and thought it was time I shared with you my experiences with the 80 motherboards we have just completed.
Due to the style of PC that was required and the price, we opted for Athlon powered PCs as opposed to Pentium powered.
This meant Athlon Motherboards. For this, we decided to go with the well respected MSI motherboards as they are famous for producing reliable Athlon and Duron boards.
Lets have a look at the board now and describe its size, shape and dimensions.
Firstly, it is an ATX motherboard design.
This means it fits in all universal ATX cases. The boxes that sit on your desk are normally ATX style if they are home made PCs. This allows for lots of universal parts to fit together. So it fits a wide variety of cases. This also means all of the Inputs for Keyboard...

mATX - Small, Sound, Old
Advantages: ATX-compatible, Power-efficient, Inexpensive, Supports ATA and SATA
Disadvantages: Obsolete DDR Technology, Unsuitable for Gamers
...ASRock P4i65G is a compact motherboard for that tiny PC case.
Because it was manufactured for microtower standard computer boxes, it lacks the strengths that the following customers would desire: workstation administrators, hardcore gamers, media professionals. In other words, this motherboard is currently suitable only for those with medium requirements (if you wish to buy it for a new computer) and highly recommended for Socket 478 processor owners.
Introducing mATX
Power Capacity
Most mATX computers support power supplies of no more than 350W, and the case is sometimes too small for you to stuff two hard disks. This motherboard can easily house a P4 3.4 GHz HT (one of the most powerful and watt-guzzling monocore CPUs) that can compete with modern dual core processors, multiple DVD-ROMs and hard disk...

Oh Mother! Asus P5Q PRO ATX iP45
Advantages: soo many, cannot describe them in just few words
Disadvantages: none apparent
...and so I went to open it and so I went to install it and so on only to find out that my old motherboard wouldn't support it. Its BIOS was un-upgradeable (plus few more other reasons) and so I went out again to look for new motherboard. This time I had to have it instantly (yes the very same day) but you wouldn't believe me how very few shops in London sell motherboards. I managed to find one and only ( Asus P5Q PRO ATX iP45) and there I was on my way home with smile totally excited to set it up and get it running. Well again to my dissapointment I realised that this motherboard just won't fit in my old Dell chassis because Dell's speciality is probably custom made hardware or at least motherboards which are fitted in the chassis basically upside down + few extra weird things which are here (in my humble opinion) to prevent you from upgrading...

P4P800-VM, Best P4 Micro-ATX Board.
Advantages: 800FSB P4 support, SATA, 8 USB2 connections, AGP 8X and 6ch Sound with SPDIF
Disadvantages: ASUS motherboard site can be down at times
...Without a doubt one of the most powerful feature packed Micro-ATX Boards ever to roll out of the ASUS factory.
This small form factor motherboard using the intel i865 chipset which will take right up the the latest(at time of writing) 3.4 Ghz CPUs, as well as the newer Prescott CPUs with increased Cache and even Extreme edition CPUs.
Add to that an impressive array of onboard features including:
8 USB2 Ports(4 on the rear I/O shield, and PCI plate which will allow you to connect a further 4 from USB headers which are useful for cases with front usb connectors)
Onboard 10/100 Lan. For connecting to a home network or router for internet access or file sharing.
Dual Channel DDR 400. Dual channel is basically a way of putting in two identical sticks of rm, for example 2x 512mb crucial 3200, and the motherboard splits...

ASUS M2N68 - motherboard - ATX - nForce 630a
Advantages: Very good cost/benefit ratio, like the overclocking, like the bios
Disadvantages: very bad pin and port placement
...the individual connectors outside of the cabinet and then connect to the board as one plug. Fortunately it has the same format as the M2N68, but unfortunately I cannot use it because it raises the connectors too high, taking space from one of the only available HD bays. Good board, but very bad planning. Even on my large full-atx cabinet, connecting everything was an unpleasant challenge. I do not recommend this board for anyone with a slim or reduced-size cabinet, or anyone who works with 4 hd's.
And contrary to CIOS's description of 5 SATA ports, it has 4....

AT verses ATX - confused?
Advantages: ATX is easy is use/build a PC
Disadvantages: Less choice in some cases
...ATX psu's don't have a power cable that connections to the power button on the case. ATX is much better in this respect because it's safer and has uses motherboard connections for standby and power off etc... You also can't connect the power cable to the M/B the wrong way round - which is nice !
The ATX psu's are different in design and size with the ATX blowing air onto the M/B - the fan is mounted in a different place to an AT psu. The M/B power connections are different also, so even if you somehow re-wired it (not recommended, not possible?) you might blow something up !
Question - Why are the AT motherboards giving way to ATX? How much longer will new AT motherboards be available?
If you build an ATX system, you'll know why ATX is much better than AT in my opinion. An ATX M/B has built-in com ports etc that line up...
