A great ASUS motherboard

Advantages: Lots of ports/features, price.
Disadvantages: Slow to pass bois post

...I brought this from ebuyer a few months back, for my new system build. I wanted a motherboard which had plenty of features/ports etc, without braking the bank, and this does just that. With 4 USB port, 7.1 surround sound audio card, 4 rear USB ports + 2 headers, Printer Port, and even 2 PCI-E 16X for SLi and 2 PCI-E and 2 PCI card slots, which is a good use of the slots available, with the PCI-E sure to be used more in the future, with it's smaller and faster slot. So, after unpacking, I found there to be a lot of accessories with this board, keeping up to ASUS's standards. I applied the headers to the case and installed the motherboard easy enough, connected everything up etc. and it was up and running. Oh Mother! Asus P5Q PRO ATX iP45

Advantages: soo many, cannot describe them in just few words
Disadvantages: none apparent

...and so I went to open it and so I went to install it and so on only to find out that my old motherboard wouldn't support it. Its BIOS was un-upgradeable (plus few more other reasons) and so I went out again to look for new motherboard. This time I had to have it instantly (yes the very same day) but you wouldn't believe me how very few shops in London sell motherboards. I managed to find one and only ( Asus P5Q PRO ATX iP45) and there I was on my way home with smile totally excited to set it up and get it running. Well again to my dissapointment I realised that this motherboard just won't fit in my old Dell chassis because Dell's speciality is probably custom made hardware or at least motherboards which are fitted in the chassis basically upside down + few extra weird things which are here (in my humble opinion) to prevent you from upgrading...

ASUS M2N68 - motherboard - ATX - nForce 630a

Advantages: Very good cost/benefit ratio, like the overclocking, like the bios
Disadvantages: very bad pin and port placement

...The product performance is good, and definately worth the money. I like the bios, and the express OS built into it (30-second net access). Other good features include the cable connection diagnostics also built into the board. I have one major gripe however, and that is pin placement. WTF was ASUS thinking about when they placed the power supply port on the far end of the opposite side of the board? Or when they placed the SATA ports so close to the HD bays? I've lost use of 2 HD bays, and had to push one HD way into the cabinet, almost into the HD fan. (No problem on the DVD bays). Don't like the forward-facing IDE port, or the floppy port. Also very angry about the placement of the power switch/LED's/sound/reset/etc pins. I have a pin riser from a previous ASUS board which is a fantastic little plug that allows you to connect...

This is a budget motherboard.

Advantages: Loads of features for the price
Disadvantages: A poor performer

It sounds like a small thing, but believe me, when the mouse pointer keeps freezing every few minutes and you've tried reinstalling windows 3 times, tried different mice, etc, it's infuriating. The nail in the coffin was when I began to do benchmark tests, e.g. the ones in Everest Ultimate edition. The CPU, the RAM - pretty much everything I tested - was performing about 25% less than it should. I had a hunch it was the motherboard because it's the only component I skimped on. I bought a decent CPU, RAM, Video card, hard drive, power supply and case - but skimped on the motherboard. Not clever! I bought an Asus P5P800SE instead. It has a similar feature set to that of the 775V88+, perhaps slightly less features, but cost about £35 more. Needless to say I'm now extremely happy with my system 2 weeks on. No problems with mouse...

ASUS P5W DH Delux Digital Home Series Motherboard

Advantages: Cooling, Upgrades, BIOS updates, Stability
Disadvantages: ASUS website is cumbersome at times

...I have now owned this motherboard for over a year. I have upgraded the CPU from a dual core to a quad core pentium, I have doubled the ram from 2 to 4Gb, I am currently running 4 SATA HDD's 2 in a RAID0 configuration and I am about to upgrade the graphics card to a dual crossfire X1900. All in all this PC runs everything I have ever thrown at it and has never failed me. It has been a joy to setup, easy to configure and simple to run and update. Don't listen to people who complain about unstable bios. The bios on my PC has been faultless. I am seriously considering getting another of these and building a second PC with the bits from my first, then upgrading my main PC again.
