Audi A4

Advantages: Acceleration (V6, S4), Automatic-transmission performance (CVT), Steering/handling, Ride (base suspension), Interior materials, Available AWD
Disadvantages: Rear-seat room

...The vast majority of A4s are sold with quattro. Quattro A4s with 4 cyl and automatic transmission feel slightly underpowered. Manual-transmission quattro 1.8Ts are lively enough, while manual-transmission V6 quattros are satisfyingly quick. Lighter front-drive models feel spry with any transmission, though CVT versions are lazy from a stop. Test 1.8T CVT sedan did 8.6 sec 0-60 mph; test V6 CVT Cabriolet did 7.8. Seamless CVT acts much like conventional automatic, but requires use of manual mode for best performance. Manual transmissions controlled by precise shifters. S4's V8 strong at all speeds; test sedan did 5.6 sec 0-60. Averages for manual-transmission test models: 1.8T sedan, 24.8 mpg; 1.8T Avant, 21.5; V6 quattro sedans,18.3-21; S4 sedan, 15.6; S4 Avant, 15.9; S4 Cabriolet, 14.1. Audi says CVT is 10 percent more fuel efficient...

Diamond review  AUDI'D RICHADA RATE THE A4 2.0 TFSI S LINE?

Advantages: Acceleration. Style. Build Quality.
Disadvantages: Power Delivery. Driving Position. Price. Equipment. Soulless. Fuel Consumption.

...THE GARAGE? At 4703mm long and 1826mm wide, unless you have a particularly small one, yes it should indeed fit inside your garage. WHICH SPECIFIC MODEL? At £27,830 (aren?t these modern day ?Cortinas? getting pricy?) and packing 211bhp, the Audi A4 2.0TFSi S Line, that I am reviewing here, is towards the top of a bewilderingly comprehensive range of models. It is the most powerful and expensive four cylinder front wheel drive A4 saloon. The A4 range starts at £20,485 for the 118bhp 1.8TFSi and tops out at a whopping £33,700 for the 237bhp 3.0 TDi Quattro (four wheel drive) Executive S Line. With each engine configuration Audi offer a quattro (four wheel drive) variant ? indeed I will be offering an argument for not offering certain models, the 2.0TFSi included, with only front wheel drive. IN WHAT CAPACITY AM I REVIEWING THIS CAR? This is...

Audi A4 1.8SE Auto 4 Door

Advantages: Ride, Build Quality, Image, Looks, Equipment
Disadvantages: Rear Legroom, Running costs, Dull Handling

...Here's my first ever review (again - sorry for posting it in the wrong section before!) I've had my 1998 Audi A4 1.8SE Auto 4 door for 4 months now and it still puts a smile on my face. Whether it's the solid 'thunk' of the doors closing, or the gorgeous tone of the superb 'Concert' stereo, the Audi continues to be a car I will never regret buying. I purchased privately from a family who had cherished the car - it came in superb condition, with low mileage, and a full Audi service history. The light green (Jasper Green) really looks great when I've thrown the sponge on it, and the standard 16" alloys do a good job of setting the car off. It's by no means a perfect car though. The rear legroom is really poor, and the boot openning isn't too clever either - I'd have had an Avant if I could have afforded one. The handling is...

Audi A4 1.8T S Line 2004

Advantages: Driveability, Good Looks.
Disadvantages: Common Faults (But are not expensive to fix)

...Just upgraded to the Audi A4 1.8T S Line a few weeks ago from my Audi Cab 2.6 V6. I thought I was going to miss the power of the V6, how wrong i was!. The 1.8T with 190bhp is a quick machine and once the turbo kicks in you have hot hatch power in a saloon. These cars are ripe for tuning by way of ECU remapping, air filters, diverter valves and a number of other products which will increase BHP and torque. The S Line trim with the extra body deeper grill, spoiler, wide arches make the car look sporty without going over the top. On the interior the aluminum trimmings along with the half leather sports seat are classy and comfortable for long journeys. The suspension is stiff but solid on country road. Some things that go wrong in this model although these may have been rectified in the 2004 onward models are ignition coil...

Audi A4 , more like AWWW D A bore

Advantages: Quick , nice door sound , MPG
Disadvantages: Low,unreliable, tiny tiny boot, big little car

.... The MPG is astonishing, and I can get what equates to 50 Mpg if you drive it like a Vicar , the problem is the A4 likes to be driven hard and fast rather like Vicars wives, but even when you are thrashing around like MK2 Escort on a bleak northern estate with your techno hard house banging out from your tinted windows and grounding out on every speed bump , you still get 40 mpg + . Another positive feature, and one which probably reflects on my own sad existence is the doors also make a lovely clonk sound, the noise which other countries vehicles don't seem to make , and the internal build quality is pretty good. It all feels solid and most importantly reliable . Its your Uncle Craig, he plays cricket , he is kind and he has a square jaw , the problem is Uncle Craig drinks a lot and one Christmas he peed himself , and that's what...

Audi A4 2.0 saloon

Advantages: Quality of construction, good looks
Disadvantages: Small interior, engine lacks low-down torque & power

...The Audi A4 2.0 is a handsome high quality car with a smooth highway ride and generally low noise levels. Interior The interior is snug for 4 occupants although those in the rear seats should not be taller than 1.7M as legroom is limited. The seats are well constructed for comfort but lack sufficient sideways restraint for more enthusiastic cornering. The seat longitudinal adjustment is by lever located on the left, a bar across the front of the seat would be simpler to locate. The rake and height adjustment controls work well. Elegant entry or egress is thwarted by the low roofline that forces passengers to contort somewhat, particularly in the case of rear seat occupants. The drivers door armrest does not have a handle on the inner end making for a long reach when closing a fully opened door. Footwell and pavement...

Running a Used A4

Advantages: Build quality, reliability, ride & handling, comfort, practicality, fuel consumption.
Disadvantages: Servicing parts/costs

...I purchased my first A4 having previously driven older cars after passing my test. Obviously the A4 was a superior car to these older cars, but having run the car for over 30,000 miles in 2 years I have been very pleased with it. My A4 was a 2001 model 2.0 sport. It was bought from an independent dealer with 72,000 miles recorded at 3 years old. The car had a full service history, although as a fleet car it hadn't enjoyed the care and attention a privately owned car might have. I paid £8,750 for the car, and ran it for just over 2 years as a daily commuting car, with twice-weekly motorway trips. The car has been used on holidays over the UK, and during the summer on a trip to the south of France and back. In all of this time the car has been 100% reliable, and regularly returning close on 40mpg on motorway journeys. It has always...

Audi A4 Avant Turbo Sport

Advantages: Build Quality, Performance, Style.
Disadvantages: Cost, Handling at very high speeds

...cars. OK, so it is expensive, but it is worth it. We have two Audi's in the household, and I don't think we will ever regret it! Oh, and yes the handles above the seats are oil-dampened!...

Running a used A4 3.0 Quattro Saloon

Advantages: Performance, Build Quality, Reliability, and Practicality.
Disadvantages: Running costs may not suit all people.

...This is my second Audi A4, and I bought it on the strength of my experiences with my previous A4. My car is a 2002 model 3.0 Quattro Sport with the 6 speed manual ?box. I bought this car used with 55,000 miles on the clock 6 months ago, replacing my previous car, which had covered 107,000 miles. The key strengths of this car are much the same as the previous car, namely: Reliability, Build quality, Comfort, Practicality, and Driving Involvement. I bought this car, as I also wanted more performance, as well as a newer car with lower mileage. The 3.0 6-cylinder engine is wonderfully smooth and quiet in general driving, while under harder acceleration it provides a suitably sporting growl. The six-speed ?box doesn?t rev any lower in top gear than my 2.0?s 5 speed, but the closer ratios make it extremely flexible for open road/A road...

Audi A4: Are you a 'Compact Executive'

Advantages: The neighbours think you have gone up in the world
Disadvantages: Noisy, cramped and it doesn't like corners

...are used to a petrol engine or a smaller diesel. It's not a match for the next generation diesels such as the 2.0TDi in the newer A4s or the TDCi Mondeo. Its not quiet either, but it is impressively economical - 45mpg is easily achievable on every journey, 50mpg is more the norm for a long distance cruise and even 60mpg is not out of the question if you drive very carefully. The tank is huge too, so with 600 plus miles between fill-ups, it feels even more economical than it really is. The handling is a bit sloppy with lots of understeer even at lower speeds. It does not feel reassuring although it never got me into trouble. The ESP is a must as the front tyres squirm as the turbo kicks in, even in the higher gears. The interior is a bit dull but faultless in terms of quality. The doors close with a reassuring thud and switches operate...
