Despite its soft styling it still looks strong, as a big car should without being overly aggressive. The rear end is square, but the kicked-up flanks look perfect. Despite being quite light, the 2.8-litre version is certainly no hot rod, with just 174bhp and 185lb ft of torque on offer. The 3.7-litre versions obviously improve substantially on these figures, but add seven and a half grand to the asking price at the same time. The 2.8-litre takes 11 lazy seconds to reach 60mph and the in-gear times are sluggish, too. In the engine?s defence it feels smooth and strong, if not quick-revving. Audi S3

Advantages: Fast, sporty but subtle, great handling
Disadvantages: Fuel economy, lots of abused cars out there

...I own a 2002 S3 225bhp. In a few words - fast, good mid range torque, sporty look without having the boy racer look. It's a classy car which is quicker than most on the road. The only down points, and this is being picky is the fuel economy, noticeable turbo lag (especially when more than 2 people in the car) and the high service costs if you take it to audi. I take it to a vw-audi specialist though and they're fine. Prices are good now and i would recommend a fully loaded one - at least try for cruise and bose. I have sat nav too which is worth it. I don't have chrome mirrors and wouldn't at the price quoted for the originals - plus slightly tacky looking as there are a number of fake S3s out there with the cheap plastic chrome looking mirrors. Also I would prefer full leathers as the suedes get a bit worn on the drivers...

Audi s3 2001

Advantages: excellent solid package with lots of credability
Disadvantages: mabye not wild enough for some

...I bought my audi s3 in january, so after 6 months of ownership I`d thought I would write a review. Cost of the s3 was expensive compared to most other hot hatches I paid £13k for a 2001 with 34,000 miles with full service history. Options wise the list is almost endless you can have the usual metallic paint, leather, sunroof, armrest. The s3 options are chrome mirror covers and lower side mouldings, Bose stereo upgrade heated seats, sat nav and cd changer in the boot. Mine is metallic grey with full heated leather, sunroof, Bose stereo upgrade which I love Tip- hold out for the car you really want and be prepared to wait to find the right one, theres no point settling for something you didn`t want! I have just taken it in for a service at Audi it needed the full one at 36k with a bit of negotiation I managed to get it...

Mk1 Audi S3 been replaced but still has the goods

...The Mk1 Audi S3 built from 99 till 2003 and based on the A3 model it is the flagship of that range. there were 2 variants the 210bhp (99-02) and the 225nhp (02-03). Both Had the same 1.8 liter straight 4cylinder Turbocharged engine, the second had a variable valve timing to increase the bhp output. Manufacturer stated a 0-62 of 6 seconds. It was dubbed a Quattro as it used a 4 wheel drive system to distribute the power to where it was needed the most. The S3 was officially sold in Uk, Europe, Mexico and Australia but not officially in the USA. Some of the Main Features that came as standard on the new car were; xenon HID headlamps with high pressure washers, front fog lamps, 17 in "Avus" alloy wheels with 225/45R17 tires, electrically adjustable Recaro leather seats, climate control, alarm, electronic traction control...

Advantages: A 5-door premium "mini-estate"
Disadvantages: Cost. It's really just a Golf, buy you pay for the badge...

Audi A3 Sport

Advantages: Stunning looks for a hatchback, superior build quality.
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy and maintain. High Insurance

...It is actually my Mum who owns the car. I have had my fair share of driving it though. The whole car is really easy on the eye. Interior build qulity is fantastic. Hard seats, and with the sport option, you get sports seats, leather gearnob and steering wheel, Electric sunroof, 15 inch alloys and diagnostic computer. Also it comes with lowered suspension. My mum does not do that many miles in it, which is just as well, as servicing is really rather expensive. We have had a couple of initial problems, ranging from problems with the immobiliser and the "lights on" reminder beeper. Both had to have new circuit boards put in. Audi were very apologetic and gave us a curtesy car and had sorted it in a short space of time. The 1.6 16V engine is pretty punchy and has a nice smooth torque range all through the rev range. Basically it pulls well...

Audi A3 blows away Golf and 1 Series

Advantages: Super looks, great build quality
Disadvantages: Audi service..AVIOD

...Audi is a german company. I could leave it there, but audi currently i believe lead the german luxury car market, the A3's competitors are the VW Golf and the BMW 1 series, this mercedes currently not offering a sporty hatchback. The golf firstly won't give you the same luxury that the A3 will which justifies it being £6000 cheaper, and the 1 series will give you the luxury at a slightly most expensive price and without the sporty looks of the A3. The A3 in fact runs over the other two in the looks department, with audi's signature large grill, it looks like a beast and is one, the S-line will offer you even better sporty look with nicer trim without having to fork out for the S3. The S-line is basically an option that gives in an enhanced sporty look almost as good as the S3 and the S-line option is available in the 5-door option...

Audi A3 1.6 SE

Advantages: Looks great on both the inside and the outside, feeling of safety when driving
Disadvantages: Cost of petrol, tyres etc, noise from engine, space

...I bought an Audi A3 1.6SE 3 door after saving for years. I was soooo excited when it came on a big lorry from Audi. The delivery man was very well dressed and gave me a demonstration of the vehicle and informed me what all the gadgets and buttons did on the inside. We even had a tour of the engine (I'm a girl, an engine is an engine - sorry!!!). I couldnt' have been more impressed. So, after the hours demonstration, and my brain whirring round my little head, i took off into the sunset to drive my 'dream' car. I LOVED it. I couldn't get enough. My husband loved driving it too. The interior was neat, looks good, silver where silver is needed - not too much so it doesn't look tacky. The air conditioning is easy to use and works very efficently. There is a cup holder for your can/water/tea. The glove compartment is big enough to...

Audi A3 1.8 T Quattro

Advantages: Great build quality, lots of toys, pretty nippy and a name you can trust.
Disadvantages: Fuel consumption, fault on stereo and uncomfortable on really long journeys.

...with different road types (from motorway to twisty B roads) the average I got was around 25.8 mpg so it can become a little expensive! Also you need to watch out for a fault with the music system. When the car is cold the volume control does not work properly and is either extremely quiet or REALLY loud! This is a fault on all the systems but it does stop within about 20 minutes of driving the car. Overall, I would have to say the audi is a good car that I would definately reccomend to buy as long as your not doing long commutes in it! Very fun to drive and a beautiful cabin to sit in combined with the 4 wheel drive system and brilliant build quality you really can't go far wrong with this car....

Advantages: None that I can think of
Disadvantages: Fantastically expensive

...S G Smith Audi (BR3 3BT) and Bromley Audi servicing (Tylney Road BR2) - I strongly urge you to avoid both to save yourself a huge amount of money. My 2001 Audi A4 Avant now needs its 3rd clutch and the car has not even done 60,000 miles. Audi even had the temerity to criticise 'driving style', when my wife and I have been driving for well over 40 years betwen us and none of our previous cars (VW, Fiat and BMW) have ever needed new clutches; total and very expensive crap, quite apart from these cars burning oil like others use petrol. Choose any other make of car and avoid this dealership. Even in credit crunch times, they seem oblivious to the idea of keeping their customers happy....
