Despite its soft styling it still looks strong, as a big car should without being overly aggressive. The rear end is square, but the kicked-up flanks look perfect. Despite being quite light, the 2.8-litre version is certainly no hot rod, with just 174bhp and 185lb ft of torque on offer. The 3.7-litre versions obviously improve substantially on these figures, but add seven and a half grand to the asking price at the same time. The 2.8-litre takes 11 lazy seconds to reach 60mph and the in-gear times are sluggish, too. In the engine?s defence it feels smooth and strong, if not quick-revving. Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI SE

Advantages: A 5-door premium "mini-estate"
Disadvantages: Cost. It's really just a Golf, buy you pay for the badge...

...Last week (a fairly reasonable 9 weeks from placing the order) we took delivery of our brand new Audi A3 Sportback SE 2.0 TDI, to replace my Mercedes CLK (check out my other reviews), a splendid car but really not a suitable family-mobile... I know I've not had the car very long, so maybe am not in a fantastic position to give a full review, but as no-one else has reviewed this car on Ciao (yet), I wanted to make this information available to you all. ...The vast majority of A4s are sold with quattro. Quattro A4s with 4 cyl and automatic transmission feel slightly underpowered. Manual-transmission quattro 1.8Ts are lively enough, while manual-transmission V6 quattros are satisfyingly quick. Lighter front-drive models feel spry with any transmission, though CVT versions are lazy from a stop. Test 1.8T CVT sedan did 8.6 sec 0-60 mph; test V6 CVT Cabriolet did 7.8. Seamless CVT acts much like conventional automatic, but requires use of manual mode for best performance. Manual transmissions controlled by precise shifters. S4's V8 strong at all speeds; test sedan did 5.6 sec 0-60. ...Now please don't quote me on this, but I just nipped over to the Audi web site -- http://www.audi.co.uk/newcars/range.jsp?section=/models/a6saloon/a6saloon -- to do a quick bit of research for this review and it looks pretty definite to me that they are no longer doing a 1.9 TDI version of the Audi A6 saloon. They are doing a 2.4 SE manual, a 2.4 SE multitronic, a 3.2 FSI SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE tiptonic, a 4.2 quattro SE tiptronic, a 2.0 TDI SE manual and a 3.0 TDI quattro SE tiptronic, but look, there ain't a 1.9 SE TDI anymore. Lovely Audi A2

Advantages: Quality, great to drive
Disadvantages: No diesel automatic

...I needed to get a car as I wanted to get a bit more independence with an imminent baby. I ideally wanted a diesel automatic car as I like automatics, but couldn't find anything I liked as much as this very funky Audi A2, so I compromised on the automatic aspect, reckoning that I'd rather save some money on the fuel economy (and the road tax - a surprisingly refreshing 35 quid a year - bargain!). I also liked the relatively low emissions. I wanted something small, pretty cheap to run and very easy to drive, but also wanted the car to be a bit different. ...I was really impressed when it was delivered, the lines were so smooth. I could have just left on the drive and looked at all day long!! But that won?t get me to where I want to be. I have the 130 bhp model with sports pack option. ** Nice body!! ** Looking at the lines of the car, you can really see how a wind tunnel played a part in the design!! Smooth and graceful is how I would describe things. Everything is rounded, all the lines blend into one another really well. The phrase that jumps out at me is ?quality engineering?. All the light clusters are moulded and curve round the front and back respectively. They are quite large as well. The front fog lights are at low level. Advantages: Peppy, fun and practical.
Disadvantages: stock tires, weird armrest/handbrake ergonomics, rear window buffeting

...I bought my A3 about 4 weeks after they were released in the US. I've now got almost 20,000 miles on it and have enjoyed every mile. I have a 60 mile daily commute, which is a good combination of open and mountainous freeway driving. The A3 is amazing uphill. The new Audi 4-cyl 2.0 Turbo combined with the 6 speed DSG doesn't even stutter when traveling up the 2 mile 3% grade I drive daily. I've got to watch myself to keep myself from doing 90 mph up it. I cannot imagine what the new S-line version will be like with the larger V6 engine and quattro. For those of you that don't know what DSG is, it stands for Dual Shift Gearbox. DSG is basically a semi-automatic transmission that uses two clutches instead of one - which the end result is faster and smoother shifting.
