MP3 player for audio on the move
Review of AudioMove Packard Bell 512Mb MP3 Player by
francophile01
Advantages: Small, Light, Good sound quality
Disadvantages: Poor display, fiddly controls, abd does not hold as much as it says
...Packard Bell Audio Move is a 512 Megabyte MP3 player. It runs for up to 12 hours on a single AAA battery. It comes with earphones (not all MP3 player do). It fits in the palm of the hand measuring 3 ½ inches x 1 inch x ¾ of an inch, and comes with a quick start guide, the guarantee booklet and a CD ROM with the instruction manual and software for older versions of Windows.
I listen to lots of audio programs from Nightingale Connant Corporation, courses on Marketing, business and self help etc., and I like to take them out with me so that I'm not tied to the arm chair. But I don't like lugging a CD player and CDs everywhere with me, and it jumps around if you play it while walking. So I figured this justified investing in an MP3 player. At £45 I thought it a reasonable investment.
I don't want to lay out the "astronomical!" cost...

MP3's through a cassette player in your car
Review of Belkin Components Car cassette adapter Colour: White by
Rubeenio
Advantages: Cheap and it easy to use
Disadvantages: A little tempremental
...After my girl friend got the back of her car smashed in to by some stupid guy she had to change cars. Luckily she got a car for free from a friend of her family, unluckily this car is about 15 years old lol. We both have MP3 players and love to listen to music when we drive but this new car only had a cassette player so we were both a bit disappointed.
On a trip to our local halfords i decided that i was sick of listening to old recordings of early 90's "music" and got her the Belkin MP3 cassette thingy in the hopes that we could finally listen to some good music.
There are some very good things about this product and some not so good things as well. The good points are its a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new CD player for the car. It also means that you can listen to 10000's of songs that you have on your MP3 player (or...

An Atrac-tive player
Review of Sony CD / MP3 player by
sandemp
Advantages: Ultimate in portability, use in car or on foot
Disadvantages: Atrac cannot be used on any other players
...Once upon a time I had a car, and it had a radio that didn't work and a cassette player that did. So I used to tape my CD's onto cassettes to listen to in the car. This wasn't ideal, after all a tape only plays for a relatively short time before it needs turning over, but that was all I had.
Then I saw an advert in the paper for the Sony D-NE518CK , a CD/mp3 player which came with a car kit that simply went into the cassette slot and you could get upto 30 hours of music one disc. My mouth dropped and I said “WOW, I've got to get one of them!!!”.
So off I toddled to Argos and bought the CD Walkman for a princely £90, then as a nice bonus received a free 240 disc case and 5 CD-A (writeable CDs that can only be used like regular audio CDs).

Audio Book -Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban
Review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Audio Book) - Stephen Fry (Narrator), J.K. Rowling by
workangel
Advantages: A spellbinding tale read to perfection by Stephen Fry
Disadvantages: None
...only intended to listen to the first few minutes but found I could not turn it off. Stephen Fry has a marvellous delivery for speaking books. I imagine it must be down to a number of things - timing, phrasing , emphasis, a good knowledge of the book and its content - but whatever it is, he certainly has it.
Every word is clear and you get the full sense of atmosphere from the tapes - the background sounds are at exactly at the right pitch and sound level.
Once I had listened to all of the tapes I turned them over to my nephew . He really enjoyed the tapes - and it has pushed on his desire to read the books himself so his reading has improved in leaps and bounds.
Tape detail
There are 8 audio cassettes
The total listening time is 12 hours 5 minutes.
I paid £9 but I think this was probably much cheaper than they would normally...

Nippy Jack
Review of Night Frost (Audio Cassette) - R.D. Wingfield by
sunmeilan
Advantages: Enthralling story, good length
Disadvantages: David Jason isn't the best narrator I've heard
...was interested in the story rather than the narrator's skills and this is a well-abridged story.
The audio book is available on cassette (4 sides), which is the version that I have and CD. A version downloadable to an MP3 player is also available.
I bought my copy from listen2online.co.uk about 2 years ago and it is still available on audio cassette for £6.99. The CD version is available from play.com for £8.99. The MP3 version can be bought from www.audible.co.uk for £7.69....

Cambridge Audio DVD player with HDMI
Review of Cambridge Audio DVD 86 by
sjhill
Advantages: HDMI Out, DIVX support, mp3 support
Disadvantages: Too many buttons on the remote! Slow eject button response.
...This stylish and reasonably priced DVD player from Cambridge Audio retails for approx £150. For a DVD player with HDMI (Digital) out, that is one of the more reasonable priced models on the market at the moment.
The player will take a moment to recognise disks, but once it has found which format the disk is, I have found playback to be flawless. It can play normal DVDs (PAL), also DVDs from the USA (NTSC) and DIVX encoded video. Although I have not tried it, it can apparently play disks with mp3 music on them.
If you need to set the unit up beyond just plugging in cables, then the basic on screen configuration is straightforward.
You will need to refer to the manual for the advanced configuration of the unit (if you have a complicated or non-standard HiFi setup). Just connecting this unit up in the most obvious manner - SCART...

Amazing Cambridge Audio 640 c CD player
Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 640 C by
musicdave
Advantages: price - looks - build quality
Disadvantages: Not anything major
...What can i say about the Cambridge Audio Azur CD player. WELL...... its CLASS! The design is amazing with the blue LCD power light and the very clear LCD screen to show what track you are on.
The remote control is very well built and heavy, not in a bad way but in a way that shows the quality. Another advantage about the remote is that it works with all AZUR products. I currently have the CD player and the AMP and they work perfectly together and all by using the one remote control.
There is only one little thing that i could possible comment on that they could have improved on. If your lazy like me and have the CD tray open and do not want to press the close button then the off button it will not automatically shut the tray for you. It turns off and leaves it open. Even my £10.00 CD player does that. But out of everything...

Great sounding cassette recorder
Review of Technics RS-BX646 Stereo Cassette Deck by
tcumming
Advantages: Great sound quality, good set of features, three heads
Disadvantages: No remote control
...Many people seem to think that cassette tapes, and analogue audio in general, have had their day. For me though, I have so many cassettes that converting them to a digital format is impractical, and buying CD copies or paying to download them, too expensive. Unfortunately, the quality of cassette decks in most mini-hifi systems these days is very poor - the cynic in me wonders if this is a deliberate ploy to stimulate sales of CD recorders and other more "hi-tech" gadgetry.
Hence, I bought this machine for the grand sum of £10 second hand. I believe it retailed for under £100 new, though I suspect it has been discontinued now.
I will begin with the playback side of things. When I first started using this machine, I suddenly found myself listening to lots of old pre-recorded cassettes I had not dug out for years. OK, so they were...

Panasonic RXEX1SC CD/Radio/Casette player
Review of Panasonic RXEX1SC / CD radio cassette player by
bexfox
Advantages: Attractive design, good quality music, remote control
Disadvantages: Quite bulky, only holds 1 CD and casette
...To be honest, for the cost of this item (approximately £95.00), there are better products that perform the same functions only much more efficiently. I found that the time taken for CD's to load was rather tedious, and also, the machine only holds one CD and one cassette at the same time. However, the sound quality is good, and the remote control proved very useful (not that this is an uncommon feautre to dwell on). Another advantage, is CD-R's can be played. This means downloaded music from the Internet can be played on it and copied CD's can also be played. This is good because you do not have to spend £10+ every time you want to listen to a new CD, you can simply play a copied version. Although the machine can be battery operated, it requires 8AA batteries, and uses them a lot, so I recommend if you purchased this machine, you run...

Review of Belkin Cassette Adapter
Review of Belkin Components Car cassette adapter Colour: White by
evilalarm
Advantages: Allows you to listen to your mp3 player in your car
Disadvantages: Very Poor Quality Of Sound!
...I wanted to be able to listen to my iPod during car journeys and this adapter seemed the perfect job. Its slick white style compliments the iPod very well, and looks perfect. My friend had bought the very same product to use in her car, and the sound quality was very good! She bought it for £20 in an airport, so when I saw it on Amazon for just £5.00 I just had to buy it... however...
The sound quality is unbearable in my car! The continual electrical buzz over the music, and the rattling of the cogs inside the cassette is dreadful. And any slight movement to my iPod produces a terrible loud crackle over the music. When i decided it was too bad to listen to, the darn thing wouldn't eject from my cassette player. Argh!
I'm not too sure if it's just the mechanism of my cassette player in my car causing the problems, because...
