But I don't like lugging a CD player and CDs everywhere with me, and it jumps around if you play it while walking. So I figured this justified investing in an MP3 player. .... WHY USE MP3 OVER CD? MP3s are compressed audio files, so instead of having about 20 songs to a cd, you can store up to about 170 songs on a cd. The downfall here is that you need to have a computer with a cd writer or at least be friendly with someone that has. The player also does not come with any software to help you with this, but I would recommend Nero as a burning program. The audio data needs to be encoded as mp3 or cda (normal cd data) otherwise it will not play e.g. wav or midi files. I?ve found this player to be compatible with all my cd-r and cd-rw cds. SOUND QUALITY The sound quality is good, however the volume controls are at set amounts, so it can be annoying if 1 setting is too quiet and the next is too loud. Stunning little 256mb MP3 player for under £5

You can either drag and drop files onto the player just as you would to any other drive or windows media player detects it as a removable audio device and allows you to sync tracks direct to the player in either mp3 or wma format. Sound quality is absolutely fantastic with good volume range and I am now an mp3 player addict. Thanks to the players basic features battery life is good and I have been using mine for in excess of 5 hours with the supplied battery. At less than £5 this is one hell of a bargain. A cracking little mp3 player that does the basics brilliantly and with 256mb it can hold upto around 80 tracks. MP3 Player MP-906, Cheap and Cheerful

Advantages: Cheap! small, user friendly, no-one will ever want to steal it and you can replace cheaply if it breaks!
Disadvantages: No locking device, non standard headphones, obviously not hi-tech!

CD/MP3 player of kings

...Whenever I?ve had to choose a CD player like this, for me or for a present, the first thing I look at is the battery time. This is what first led me to this player, it advertises 30+ hours of CD playback and 48 hours of mp3 playback (these are for non-stop playback, with no skipping. Using the skip a lot will reduce battery time and giving it resting time between playbacks increases battery time.) Those numbers seemed pretty amazing to me from just 2AA batteries. So I bought it.... The round shape looks great and I can?t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don?t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons...

...Napa 256 Mb MP3 Player. This portable MP3 player seems to be only available from Currys and Dixons, or at least it was at Christmas when I bought mine. For anyone who doesn't know, an Mp3 player can be used to store digital music tracks, and then can be used to payback whenever you wish. Basically it's a new age digital personal stereo. It is really quite small for what it is. Its size is : 85mm x 35mm x 20mm. This is roughly the same size as your index and middle finger combined. Its weight is 40 grams. You need to be able to connect your Mp3 player to your PC, which is achieved by using the USB cable which is supplied in the box. A CD which has the driver for your Mp3 player is also included, but if you are running a reasonably up to date operating system such as Windows ME or higher then the driver is unnecessary...

...Ok, to start this review off as you can see by the pic it is a small usb pen mp3 player in black and silver with an LCD screen. On the front it has a play button that acts as play/pause and on/off, on the sides it has the mode button, volume control, earphones, hold button, a mic and a metal keychain attachment. The deivce is nice and light and uses 1 x AAA battery. Although the instructions do not say, if you use a 700mah battery you should get around 5hrs of play out of it. The package comes in a small card board box with a plastic interior and the parts are wrapped in a plastic bag. In the box itself you should get, the mp3 player, 1 battery, earphones, usb cable, user manual and a cd-rom for Windows98. As I only have Windows XP I cannot say whether this auto installs on other operating systems. One useful item on the cd is...

Best mp3 player I've ever had

Advantages: Sleek, useable, high quality sound / pictur, good battery life
Disadvantages: scratches easily, cannot use songs from programs like napster

...I got my ipod classic in december and have to say it's the best mp3 player I've had. I like many owners of the classic have not filled it with music, I have less than 20gb on it, however it's good to have the space when you don't have to pay that much extra for it. Video play is very clear, sound quality is excellent (previous problem with low volume is now gone) and if you have ever used an ipod before you will already be used to the click wheel. The only problems are that the metallic back scratches easily so it needs a case really and that you can't put napster songs onto it. The battery life is fantastic when listening to music, I can go without charging mine for around a week with regular use. The battery doesn't fare quite as well with video but tthat would be a problem for any player. Overall great quality, nice design...
