A must-have for all Audrey Hepburn fans

Advantages: Excellent collection of five of her films
Disadvantages: If you don't like Audrey Hepburn, you won't like this

...This box set contains five of her best loved films: Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) - her best performance and her best known role as Holly Golightly, the gangster's playgirl who falls for a sensitive writer, brilliantly played by George Peppard. Based on the novel by Truman Capote. Sabrina (1954) - A young Audrey plays the delightful daughter of a chauffeur who attracts the attention of his employer's sons. Her and co-star William Holden were very much in love when it was made. Much better than the remake and based on Samuel Taylor's play. Funny Face (1956) - A musical where Audrey shines alongside Fred Astaire as he turns her into a Paris fashion model. Directed by Stanley 'Singin' in the Rain' Dolan it is a charming and happy film. Paris When It Sizzles (1964) - Ten years after Sabrina, Hepburn and Holden's relationship is...

The Idea That You Just Might Fly

Advantages: Interesting, Charming, Sweet
Disadvantages: Cheesey, Predictable

...A biography detailing the life of one of Hollywood's most shimmering stars: Audrey Hepburn. Starting from her hard childhood as a messenger in Nazi occupied Holland where she struggled against extreme starvation and the loss of her father to her days as a Hollywood A Lister. Along with her relationships, desperate need for children and escalating fame The Audrey Hepburn Story examines how the actresses experiences in a developing country set the roots for her tireless work with UNICEF. The Audrey Hepburn Story is a charming, interesting and well-made television biography that suffers from all the trappings of its genre but rises above them because of its authentic production values and compelling subject matter. Whether its completely successful is up for debate - it's hardly factually sound and a lot of Hepburn's trials are glossed...

Elegant and Enigmatic

Advantages: Beautiful photos, revealing, informative, sensitive
Disadvantages: None

...I am very interested in film stars of the 1950s and 1960s. One of these is Audrey Hepburn, who I loved when I watched My Fair Lady on TV as a child. I was looking for a biography to buy about her, so looked through Amazon and Ebay for something suitable, as I wanted to learn more about her life. When I saw the front cover of this book, I knew I had to buy it. The picture is stunning ? a young Audrey with short hair and a pink blouse, looking back towards the camera. Then I saw it was written by her son and I was even more intrigued. I bought Audrey Hepburn, An Elegant Spirit by Sean Hepburn Ferrer from Ebay for £5.99 (£9.49 with postage), but it is also available from Amazon for £9.12. Sean has also written a second book on his mother called The Audrey Hepburn Treasures, which I hope to buy soon. I read An Elegant Spirit...

Audrey Rose: Is she or isn't she?

Advantages: Very watchable, interesting storyline, quite scary in parts
Disadvantages: Rather dated, a little stilted acting here & there

...RELEASED: April 1977 MAIN CAST:- Elliot Hoover (played by Anthony Hopkins) Janice Templeton (played by Marsha Mason) Bill Templeton (played by John Beck) Ivy Templeton (played by Susan Swift) DIRECTOR: Robert Wise PRODUCERS: Frank De Felitta, Robert Wise SCREENPLAY: Frank De Felitta MUSICAL SCORE: Michael Small ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Audrey Rose was adapted from Frank De Felitta's novel of the same name, and released as a film in 1977. The scene is New York, and the Templetons seem like a happy, fairly well-heeled family, who live in a hotel which overlooks Central Park. Bill Templeton loves his wife and daughter, but is a rather stressed-out individual who works hard and long hours for an advertising agency. Janice Templeton is a loving mother who appears to have devoted her life...

Dining out with Audrey Hepburn

Advantages: the food and the way it looks
Disadvantages: none that i know of

...One of the best things about it being your birthday, is that you get pampered. My girlfriend knows how to pamper me,her normal routine is as follows. A game of football on the beach with the dog, home, shower and then off to some friends for a couple of glasses of wine.So you can imagine my surprise when on my birthday she said, "come on babe, lets go and have lunch with Audrey Hepburn" I was shocked and didn't have a clue what she was on about. So to cut a very long story short,we eventually got dressed and made our way into town. Its a Cafe,Its a gallery, its a gem ********************************** This cafe,so I've heard,is the only one of its kind in the coutry. Not only does it sell some absolutley delicious food,it also has some 2.500 movie posters and lobby cards on its walls.A gallery dedicated to the likes of Audrey...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

A film about a Remarkable woman

Advantages: You get to know all about Audrey Hepburn
Disadvantages: You won't like it if you don't like Audrey!

...This 2000 film sees I know What You Did Last Summer's Jennifer Love-Hewitt portray the movie legend Audrey Hepburn. We learn of the hardships that Audrey faced during the war - how illness nearly killed her as a child but she fought hard to survive. Obviously, the main focus of the film is the movies she made and the romances she had. Two of the main romances are with fellow actor William Holden whom she met whilst filming Sabrina and with the producer Mel Ferrer (played by Will and Grace's Eric McCormack). I enjoyed watching this film, although if you want to really get to know about Audrey, I would recommend reading her biography rather than watching this. Love-Hewitt does a decent job as she does have a similar look (similar features anyway). However, Audrey Hepburn is such a legend that no-one could quite do her justice...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Hepburn's magic

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...This charming comedy is justly famous as the film that made the whole world fall in love with Audrey Hepburn and half the world want to run out and buy a Vespa scooter. Hepburn was always beguiling, but in some of her later roles she tended to overplay the winsomeness. Here every note she hits is just about perfect. And speaking of notes, pay special attention to the score by the great Georges Auric. Auric's complex, vibrant, evocative music complements the story's inherent lyricism without upstaging it. In an era of bombastic film scoring, this seems a miracle. Someone once said that Audrey Hepburn's was the beauty of possibility and transformation - she was always in motion, always becoming something else. "Roman Holiday" is very much of a piece with that notion. On the surface, the film is about a princess who disguises herself...

Review of Roman Holiday (DVD)

The first of many beautiful Hepburn movies

Advantages: classic example of old Hollywood romance
Disadvantages: soundtrack could be more memorable and enhance the imagery of the film more.

...This film was produced by one of Hollywoods most skilled producers- William Wyler and has already receieved ten Academy Awards. Whether you personally enjoy this film or not, the world of critics definitely do! Personally, I love this film! In Roman Holiday my favourite actress, Audrey Hepburn, is the beatuiful protagonist and the epitome of poise and elegance as royalty on a tour of Europe. Her immaculate facade diminishes however when she is alone, leading her lonely and unhappy life which has always been concentrated on pre-organised engagements such a galas and garden parties. Yet, upon visiting Rome, the princess created her very own holiday and within just twenty four hours we see her exciting and infatuating adventure. Beyond the claustrophobic confines of her royal position she leaves the Palace grounds. She falls asleep...
