Advantages: Great plot, lovely soundtrack,
Disadvantages: i cant possibly think of one

...contrary to what a lot of people think i thought this film was fantastic! plot summary - orpaned boy escapes his orphanage and goes to New York to find his parents. on his search he encounters people who want to profit from his talent and others that want to nurture it. this is the heart warming tale of one boys love of music and how he uses it to find his parents. Acting - all the cast played believable roles especially Robin Williams who plays somebody who isnt funny for a change. The product - The case contains only one disc, the only extra that can be found on the dvd is a ten minute reel of deleted scenes mainly featuring August Rush and Wizard (Robin Williams). subtitles are available in English, French and Spanish. Advantages: Get to Watch one of the Best films of 2007/2008
Disadvantages: Gets emotional in place :( makes you cry

...whatever street money they can get. When Evan gets hold of a guitar, he displays an impossible talent for it (no really, I mean impossible) and Wizard brands his new money maker 'August Rush'. Meanwhile, both Lyla and Louis still remember that fateful night together and both end up in New York at the same time. With an escapade at Julliard (don't ask), Evan puts on a concert in Central Park but first has to escape the Wizard. Will this concert be the key to reconnecting with his parents? If the sentimentality was downplayed just a bit, this could have stood a chance at being an effective film for both children and adults - as it stands, the most effective bits for me was the clever sound editing of everyday noises into a sort of musical rhythm. Advantages: A feel good film highly recommended for a rainy evening.
Disadvantages: If you are a musician you need to let a few things slide.

Evan has a special connection to music and believes that the moon somehow links him to his parents. He feels music in everyday sounds of the streets. Do you believe in music?

Advantages: positive, good for a bit of escape, great music
Disadvantages: little in the way of action/special effects, would not appeal to everyone

...or cast well, because the two ?sides? of him were not terribly coherent, and Williams played the deep and inspirational side much better and more convincingly than the domineering side. The cover art for the DVD is equally subtle, sporting memorable scenes from the film and featuring the central character, August, with his first guitar, in the foreground. If you want to explore any of the characters, their developments and motivations, better, there are a few extra glimpses to be gleaned from the deleted scenes, which are the only feature available on the DVD. While the film flowed well without them and may have felt too dragged-out if they were included, they did round out the characters of ?Wizard? and Louis quite interestingly. I don?t buy DVDs for the bonus features, so I didn?t mind there not being anything more ? this is the kind...

The work of August Macke in a nutshell

Advantages: A good selection of Macke's work; not expensive (can be free)
Disadvantages: Better if you understand German

...If you go to see this impressive house, do not forget that if it was not for the determination of local people it wouldn't be open at all. The Bonn authorities were willing to let the building become a pub but a public campaign saved it, had it restored and in 1991 the doors opened. I?m pleased they did because August Macke is one of my favourite artists and certainly deserves a place for his work to be exhibited. This lovely Classicist style house, built in the 1870s, also houses a museum that puts into context the life of Macke and the artists working around him. It is the house where Macke painted over 400 pieces and worked until his untimely death in 1914. He was born, however, in the Sauerland region of Germany. A Mockery Of A Scam

Advantages: A good idea
Disadvantages: Poor delivery, and a string of deceits

...August is a movie that sneaks out under a layer of deceit, its advertising talks about a business undergoing serious financial demise in the run up to the terrorist attack of September 11th. And while August does have a story to tell, and not a particularly bad one I think this is a terrible deceit and scam to play on the public who in general give their whole hearted support to anything revolving around that fateful day. Telling the tale of Land Shark (a business that to be honest I lack the intellect to really understand what their trade actually is, and August as a movie fails to elaborate upon) a business success story that over a short period of time has grown to become a giant. A Golden DVD!

Advantages: entertaining, great length, good features, appealing natural comedy

Don't Rush to See It

Advantages: A reasonable turn from Robin Williams.
Disadvantages: Predictability and insipid acting.

...comes across as a made-for-TV movie that got lucky with a theatrical release. The film stock is grubby and the naturalistic lighting makes the world of the movie appear a dank and unforgiving place, which is inappropriate for a story that is predicated on a child's undying hope. The director is susceptible to cliché. The orphanage where the titular character is brought up is cold, isolated and populated by bullies that wake him in the night just to pick on him. The abandoned theatre where he lives with Wizard and a motley bunch of runaways and homeless kids feels like a cast-off from a Children's Television Workshop production, as do the gaggle of child actors that populate it. Sheridan struggles to show the passion for music that the main character and his parents share. She shows the boy picking out various sounds in his environment...
