...No, this movie most certainly is not 'Gladiator', simply because it is more authentic. Augustus' portrays Rome's first emperor (yes, first, for anyone who thinks, like i once did, that Julius Caesar was) according to the wealth of evidence supplied by various ancient authors. This is the closest i have yet seen Augustus portrayed, and it was made extra special by the fantastic acting abilities of Peter O'Toole. Taking a subject period that sees it rubbing shoulders with Gladiator, Ben Hur and Spartacus, for a new film it has the feel of something more akin to a release from thirty years ago. ...eat for life and also a visit to the chocolate factory. This send the whole world into an excited frenzy with many people buying chocolate bars by the hundreds! Charlie would love to win a golden ticket but sadly there is no money for buying loads of chocolate bars. This is not the case for Veruca Salt who's father has all of his factory workers opening chocolate bar wrappers for a whole week until a ticket is found. Mike Teevee, Violet Beaurogarde and Augustus Gloop are also in the lucky position of being able to buy loads of chocolate until they also possess the golden tickets. None of these children present particularly pleasant characteristic with Augustus always stuffing food in his face, Mike watching TV, Violet forever chewing gum and Verucca demanding that she wants everything in sight. Chocolate lover's paradise

Advantages: Entertaining, comical, great cast, good sets and story
Disadvantages: A little dated now

...many parts with wild and wacky sets which have all the brightness and garishness of the early seventies. There are strange twists and weird sights around every corner in the Chocolate factory. The actors. The cast is perfect for this film. I understand that Dahl was not overly impressed with Wilder but not me. ...Whenever i see this film im reminded of when i was a small child at Christmas time and i would sit in the chair with my nan to watch this film, now 15 years on im still watching it and i still love it just as much. Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory is a fantasic film set in the 1930's when life wasnt all that good.
