Australian Red Wine (Tesco's)

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not really what you would serve to impress at a posh dinner party

...I never used to be a red wine drinker, I would have said in the past if someone had offered me a glass "no thanks". But within the past few years I have changed my mind a lot and now do enjoy red wine. THE PRODUCT: Australian Red Wine (south eastern Australia) Selected by Tesco 75 cl 13.0% vol medium and fruity cost: £2.08 Allergy advice: Contains Sulphites Availability: every Tesco supermarket I have been in MY EXPERIENCE: I first bought a bottle of this wine when we were having a barbeque in the summer, I wasn't sure what it was or what it would be like as with most people when buying for a party you tend to just buy a few bottles of a lot of things. I decided however after a few strange glances from my partner that maybe I should try this wine before forcing it on our guests. The first thing I notice was it didn...

Tesco Australian Red Wine

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not something to serve at a party until everyone's drunk!

...Let's face it, you're buying this for £3.00 a bottle. However, MUCH better than some of the chemical crap (e.g. Cape Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon - chemical crap) that some producers pass off as wine in the same price band. It's somewhat acidic with very little body - but who cares at this price? It DOESN'T taste of chemicals and plastic. Better than most cheap table wines, can't go wrong with this - but make sure your guests have had a bit of the good stuff and are a bit pissed before you get the cheap one out. If you want better for your buck do a wine run to France and buy there - but not cheap French wine, it sucks (and they only sell it to stupid Brits like us!)....

Austrailian Red wine selected by Tesco worth a try

Advantages: Smooth
Disadvantages: none that I can think of

...Austrailian Red Wine, South Eastern Austrailia selected by Tesco. I am no connoisseur at describing wine, but I could recommend this one. My wife does not even like red wine, but even she found this one pleasant. It is as it says on the bottle "A SMOOTH, MEDIUM-BODIED RED WITH BERRY FRUIT FLAVOURS". Though perhaps being pregnant made my wife normally a non red drinker tollerate this bottle and enjoy it to some extent, and I found it nice enough to ask her to buy it again from Tesco again and I enjoyed it the second time just as much as I did the first time. Describing any kind of flavour is a difficult task for me, but with some kind of wines especially red it is easier to describe what you don't like about them, rather than what you do. The main two failings I find with quite a few red wines is some you could describe as being...

FAIR DINKUM, IT'S MINGING

Advantages: It's cheap
Disadvantages: It's horrible!

...Oh Wow!! As many of you who know me and my opinions by now you will have realised that I like my alcohol, and wine in particular. Part of my extensive research for the likes of Ciao and its readers involves the arduous testing of many different wines. It?s not often I am truly disgusted and find something bad to say as many of my choices, though I say it myself, have been very good and pleasurable. Having said that this time I seem to have picked a real minger of a wine! I picked up a bottle of Tesco Australian White wine the other day whilst shopping for a few bits and pieces. A standard 75cl bottle was £2.99 with a further 20% off at the till on this occasion making it cost a total of about £2.40 ? maybe that should have been a warning?! There is cheap wine and then there is CHEAP wine! I have been able to buy many wines...

Where's The Wine?

Advantages: Quite Tasty
Disadvantages: Covered In Sugar

...I got home a couple of nights ago, turned on my PC and settled down to eat a packet (or at least part of a packet) of Fruit Pastilles only to discover in horror, that in my hurry to pick up the local newspaper and something to chew on, on the way home from work, I'd made a bit of a boob and must have picked up a packet of Wine Pastilles in error. The look on my face must have been comical, my other half said I looked like a little spoilt child with my bottom lip stuck out, and eyes bulging like they were about to burst. I must admit I hadn't actually had Wine Pastilles before so after the initial disappointment had worn off I decided to give them a try. The Background Wine Pastilles were originally made by a company called Maynard's who are the same people that make the Fruit Pastilles and Wine Gums. Maynard have been making...

Fine Virgin Wines

Advantages: Great value boutique wines
Disadvantages: The on-line wine auctions are addictive!

...I have been buying from Virgin Wines for about three years and I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value for money of their wines. They have got a very good range of wines from all around the world, which vary in price from as little as £4 right up to £85 for a bottle of Dom Perignon 2000. I belong to their Wine Bank, which is effectively a loyalty programme. You pay £20 each month into the Wine Bank and every three months Virgin Wines will add another £20 in interest, so when you come to buy your wine you effectively get 25% off. You can pay more into your Wine Bank if you want to and you will be rewarded with a reciprocal amount of interest (i.e. £30 a month would attract £30 interest and so on). Because most of the wines they stock are generally small production 'boutique' wines, you cannot buy them anywhere...

Fancy a glass? Wine not!

Advantages: On special offer at a Spar near you
Disadvantages: Stains

...I have had a hectic couple of days - my house has been overrun by children. They have just left. I am supposed to be cutting back on the booze, but I am chilling out tonight and I have treated myself to this product. I have never tasted this wine before - however, there was £2 off at the Spar, and given the current economic state, every penny counts. I would like to apologise in advance to any readers who are expecting a comprehensive overview of this wine. I'm no Jilly Goolden and, after seeing her on Celebrity Wife Swap 10 days ago, I am proud of that fact. Instead, I will describe the product as I find it, rather than throwing in a bit of psycho-babble. I will drink anything and everything - on Sunday, I re-acquainted myself with Pernod. In the current financial climate, I have resorted to cheap cider at times, and have been...

Cheap & Cheerful

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: ?

...Following a special offer from the Tesco wine club (100 club points) I decided to shop at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of white I decided to go for the Australian red. This was cheap at £2.62 for 75 cl. ***THE PRODUCT*** The wine came in a glass bottle 13% alc by volume. It has a screw top. The front label is small with a bluish colouring. The back label has more detailed advice: Style: A smooth, medium - bodied red wine with ripe, vibrant fruit flavours. Source: From inland regions of Southern Eastern Australia, Store: in a cool dark place. Best within one year, Once open drink within 2 days. There is also advice on daily amounts for intake of average adults, male 3 - 4 units, women 2 - 3 units. Each 125 ml contains 1.6 units of alcohol glass contains. ***THE TASTE EXPERIENCE*** I served straight...

Review of Tesco Australian Red Wine (South Eastern Australia)

Is it smooth enough to charm a jolly swagman.

Advantages: Price, easily found
Disadvantages: Grape choice, harsh not smooth

...This is Tesco’s version of an Australian White Wine at £2.99 a bottle is it another smooth bargain? Where does it come from? I have been enjoying Australian wines for more years that I care to remember and they have become enormously popular in recent years. Australian wines taste so good because they are exceptionally fruity, very smooth, sometimes oaked and usually fairly cheap, just what I like and hence my interest in them. This wine is from South East Australia; the bottle is not precise as to which specific valley or local area. South East Australia is an enormous land area including New South Wales and Victoria wine regions and they are now producing good quality value for money wines. I prefer to know which specific region a wine comes from as this gives me an idea of the quality I can expect. Some of my favourite...
