Techie Toys
Advantages: Remote access even when rebooting
Disadvantages: Can't power down/up, terrible quality of image at times
...Sorry, I know this is a bit of an odd one and that most people probably won't have a clue as to what this thing is, or what it does, but I was bored and hadn't written a review in a while so I thought I would put my time to good use at work and write this op!
What is it?
***********
The Avocent DSR 2010 is what's known as a digital KVM, or Keyboard, Video and Mouse. It's a black box, which is about 43cm long (Without mounting brackets, 48cm with them) into which you plug a mouse, monitor and keyboard. For the techies out there it's 1U. Along the front are 17 green lights and 17 orange lights and the name of the box (ASR 2010) to the far right. Nothing too exciting.
Round the back is a little more interesting, but no better looking.
Depending on the model you have bought you can have up to 16 ports in two rows. Each port...

That which survives...
Advantages: Stunning, meaningful poetry
Disadvantages: Too small a book!
...My introduction to Philip Larkin and his collection of verse,' The Whitsun Weddings' I owe to my friend David Evennett, one-time Member of Parliament for Erith and Crayford. Back when I was researcher for a Member of Parliament, I had an avocation as a poet, and had just published my first book of poetry. David discovered this, and recommended Larkin as a poetic voice worthy of attention. (His researcher acted surprised, blurting out loud much to our amusement, 'And here I always took you for a Philistine!') I have been grateful ever since, as I frequently return to this slim volume of verse for inspiration and reflection.
This volume of poetry includes 32 poems. A small book first published in 1964, it has proven so popular (something rare in poetry circles) that it has been reprinted four times during the 1970s, four times during...

Not ever again for me...
Advantages: Reasonable price
Disadvantages: Customer service is appaling and the T&Cs aren't fair.
...I had ordered a couple of things before relatively pain free but after my last order I'm not making the same mistake again.
I bought a laptop that had a stuck pixel which I wanted to return as I am entitled under the Distance Selling Regulations but was denied this option since the computer had been switched on and the manufacturer wouldn't take it back. I contacted Trading Standards who adviced me that was an unfair requirement according to the DSR and that it would be an issue between them and the manufacturer and shouldn't affect me at all, but Dabs still chose to ignore it.
Their customer services was appalling and there is no way of speaking to anyone so the whole process is very slow and frustrating.
I still have the complaint open with Trading Standards and hopefully will be resolved but they refuse to discuss anything...

Probably the only easy-to-read Computer Magazine
Advantages: Simple and clear advice, Interesting articles, Product Reviews
Disadvantages: Adverts, Reviews sometimes too short
...- PRODUCT REVIEWS
- WORKSHOP
- Q&A (Question & Answer)
- LETTERS
But the order seems to vary and some section headings can also vary, sometimes because of the theme. For example, a feature topic about digital cameras would have more reviews and possibly product tests.
The Workshop is quite interesting as this is dead in the centre of the magazine and you can pull it out to keep for future reference. Only problem is that once pulled out, although still a two page spread, they aren't held together anymore as the staples remain with the rest of the magazine.
Although the title of the magazine is 'Computer' Active some sections do seem to focus on consumer law like the DSR (Distance Selling Regulations i.e. buying online). In these sections, readers write in and ask for advice on what to do when they experience problems with a service...

Reversal of Fortune, Recovery of Faith
Advantages: Good story, good characters, representative of the genre
Disadvantages: The unexplained disappearance of Dunstan that doesn't get explored
...George Eliot, born Marian Evans in 1819, spent most of her early life in rural Warwickshire. This early upbringing is apparent from her easy comfort in writing about country settings, with attention to detail and niceties that a born-Londoner would generally not be able to provide. Eliot's life was not that of the typical Victorian lady; she worked in publishing, including periodicals, translations, and writing her own fiction. Eliot led a 'colourful' life; living in a common-law marriage with Lewes, a man who left his wife and children for her, she then married after his death a man twenty years her junior, only to die eight months later.
Silas is a weaver, a rather grumpy and sour man, whose primary occupation and avocation is the making of money. He is an outsider in Raveloe, having been driven from his earlier community...

See It To Believe It
Advantages: Visually stunning, gripping and very believable acting.
Disadvantages: Some may find the film too way out there and confusing
...mentioning that the film was shot with a Sony DSR- PD150 which for those who don't know is a semi-professional digital video camera. Using this type of camera without a doubt works in Lynch's favour as it just makes each scene reach out a grab you, and the close up shots of the characters at times makes for some pretty claustrophobic viewing.
The film feels very much like a very darkened and adult version of the classics 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'The Wizard of Oz', as Nikki/Sue falls deeper into a world full of anthropomorphic rabbits and prostitutes dancing to the locomotion song to name but a couple of many strange events that take place throughout this unique film.
All of the actors in the film put in very solid performances and were very believable in their varying roles. What made their performances stand out for me was the fact that...

Great quality personal photo prints!
Advantages: Affordable, Connectivity, Quick, Portable.
Disadvantages: Consumable Availability, Head Gets Dirty Quickly.
..., the most popular is the DSR400T which consists of 3 print films and 120 sheets of printer paper. The problem is its pricey, approximately £35 - £40 (30 - 35p per print) when bought online after delivery, it's also a pain as there are limited English companies that stock it.
Overall:
Overall it's not a bad photo printer for the price, even moreseo if it's free! The prints are decent enough to put in an album without worry and it should last long enough to keep hold of for a while, although saying that with the price of the paper & carts it can always be cheaper to use an online service to print your snaps. (Unless of course they're something you want to keep private...)...

Stunning performance without the usual compromises
Advantages: Gorgeous looks, exceptional acceleration and handling, yet practical
Disadvantages: How long have you got to wait for yours?
...clearly thought about the implications of providing so much performance so the FR comes with ESP (electronic stability programming), DSR (dynamic steering response), EBA (electronic brake assist) and traction control as standard. Far from interfering with the driving experience these electronic systems enhance it and must dramatically improve the car?s safety. I tried the vehicle on a test track in wet conditions with and without the electronic systems (for some reason there is a switch marked ESP on/off) and the difference was startling; with the system operational it was very difficult to get the car out of shape.
Driven more sedately the diesel engined FR returns remarkably good fuel economy (40+ MPG is easy to achieve) and I?m expecting this to improve as the engine loosens up.
The ride comfort is somewhat on the firm side which is...
