Another Bargin!
Review of Axis & Allies (PC) by
CliveS
Advantages: Clear, easy to follow rules with interesting film clips
Disadvantages: Once you've got used to the game it can quickly get boring
...I bought Axis and Allies from a bargin bucket and have been addicted ever since! The game gives you the choice of controlling any of the five major powers in world war two (UK, US, Russia, Japan and Germany) - or all of them! The game play follows the board game and there are various patches that can be downloaded via the net to add interest.
The main disadvantage with the game is once you have become used to the tactics of the pre-programmed enemy (eg - you're the axis powers and the computer is the allies) the tactics become easy to prevent. The patches mentioned earlier help give a new focus to prevent boredom at this stage but advanced tactics by the programmer would have been more challenging....

Excellent For Strategy Beginners
Review of Axis & Allies (PC) by
Atomcreator
Advantages: A Faithful rendition of the popular board game
Disadvantages: Poor A.I.
..., and the ALLIES - United Kingdom, United States and USSR.
It is a very faithful rendition of the board game for those who have been fortunate enough to play, but for those who have'nt here's a brief overview.
Its end 1941 and pearl harbour has just bought Japan and USA into the war.
Each country takes its turn to buy units, wage war and move its forces across a full global map in an attempt to out-manouver the opposition, gain crucial strategic countries and eventually conquer the enemy. War is conducted using dice which the computer rolls randomly ( one hopes ), and losses are then calculated. It is often possible to work out the odds of a battle beforehand, but anyone who knows dice also knows how frustrating it is when they don't go your way.!!
Whilst the game is simplistic ( units are few, just infantry, armour, fighters, bombers etc...

My personal opinion of Axis and Allies
Review of Axis & Allies by
Lord_Karskin
Advantages: Very well balanced rules
Disadvantages: Time factor for games
...Axis and Allies is a very time consuming game. Be sure to allow upwards of 4 hours for a complete game, longer if playing as teams, and I have played in games which have lasted up to 18 hours.
Set in the Second World War it pits two teams against each other with the Axis of Germany and Japan against the Allies of the USA,Russia and Great Britain.
It is a game for adults or older children with 13 to 14 years of age being a minimum due to the length of time spent in playing and the relative complexity of the rules when compared to games such as Monopoly etc.
Note that the rating of average complexity to set up is for games of this type. If compared to a game like Monopoly it is a lot more involved in the setup stage.
Having said that I still recommend this game to anyone interested in strategy. It has a luck element but this is minor...

Company of Heroes - An RTS with brains
Review of Company of Heroes (PC) by
mr_Pagey
Advantages: Great units and enviroment, awesome graphics and fun multiplayer
Disadvantages: High specs required and only 2 playable factions
....
The graphics on this game are fantastic but this is also the games downfall as, unless you have a high spec computer, you will have alot of trouble playing it. The level of graphics and attention to detail far surpasses anything thats previosly been seen an RTS or even a flashey first person shooter. However these flashey graphics arnt just for good looks as they also add to the graphics' realism helps make the gameplay itself more engrossing and intuitive. The game also includes some surprisingly gory displays on occasion; an mortar shell, for instance, can tear men into pieces and send limbs flying through the air.
One problem with the game is the lack of sides as there are only 2 playable factions - allied and axis, however with an expansion out this year you shouldnt let this fact put you off buying it. The first faction - the axis are a more...

Tally Ho
Review of Combat Flight Simulator (PC) by
HeyWhat
Advantages: Free to play online
Disadvantages: some lag if played on the zone
...This is a game i play regularly both on and off line. There are Four parts to this game with a selection of both allied and axis aircraft. Free flight is pretty much what it says, pick your aircraft and fly around, land and pretty much do as you wish without the danger of being shot down. Campaigns can be flown as either single missions or as a series of missions and then there is my favorite Multiplayer. This option needs to be played on the zone,www.zone.com here you fight against other players in either a free for all situation or as part of team in rooms usually of about eight people. Quick combat allows you to pick how many enemy aircraft you wish to fight against in a dog fight scenario. There are various difficulty settings that effect the mode of flight, strength of guns, ammo limited or not, fuel limited or not, G force, sun...

Your Finest hour!
Review of Call of Duty (PC) by
yensech
Advantages: Atmospheric, Great AI, stylish and smooth!!
Disadvantages: Slightly too short.
...of players as Allied players scattered across the landscape. The rest of the players will be Axis. Every time an Axis player kills an Ally, that Axis player turns into an Ally. The longer a player stays alive as an Ally, the more points earned. Very fun!!
Call of Duty is a must buy for anyone who has enjoyed a first person shooter. Even if WWII warfare isn't your thing, this is sure to delight you!! From the moment the first bullet is fired , until the last soldier standing, this game will amuse and intensify you, giving a great gaming experience overall!...

The best add-on pack yet.
Review of Spearhead (PC) by
atait
Advantages: More MOH, more baddies, more guns!
Disadvantages: More money on graphics cards!!
...Medal Of Honor is one of the games you love or hate. It might be too slow and stealthy for the Quake people, and not strategic enough for those Final Fantasy fans. Yet it combines an atmosphere and pace unrivaled by other video games. The early PSX MoH games were excellent, and although let down by the hardware the depth of play, size of levels and detail in the graphics made them worth a second play every time. When MoH:Allied Assault appeared as the first PC game, I went out and bought a fast video card and dived in. Weeks later I finished, and by a coincidence Spearhead was released the following day! In for a penny indeed.
For those who haven't played the Medal Of Honor games, they are based around a single soldier's efforts to win WWII for the Allies. Of course, you play this soldier, and the fate of the war depends on you...

TOTAL WAR STRETCHES THE MIND
Review of Axis and Allies by
johnstevens
Advantages: the pure playability of this game is one of its good points, the ability to pull of the most amazing stunts
Disadvantages: When you send loads of troops in to get slaugtered by sub-stadered troops is the MOST humiliating thing that can happen to you
...INTRODUCTION

The second world war how would you play it?
Review of Axis & Allies (PC) by
darkangelwing
Advantages: Control wave of attacks, gripping and enthrawling detail, exciting videos, what a game, not bad for a fiver!!
Disadvantages: Too easy, world domination is impossible to achive, and planes run out of fuel hehe!
...Axis and allies is a pc made version of the traditional board game of the same name,i have not played it so i have no basis for comparison but i willsay that this is a great game from HASBRO INTERACTIVE and one of the cheapest most addictive games i have had the pleasure of playing. From the opening intro video which is extremely cool and enthrawling to the end videos of allied or axis victory the game never lacks energy and thought has been given to every conseivable detail to make a wonderful historic pc game!
Axis and allies is a simple yet detailed follow off of the height of the third reich, simple yet interesting war deciding battles are area based and not town/city based that can be a trifle anoying. The battle for Stalingrad was the turning point in the war and so was the battle for El alamein in Africa. The storyline is based...

Jump-out-of-your-skinenstein
Review of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC) by
simonsta
Advantages: Chilling graphics, great sound, excellent story
Disadvantages: Short, a bit easy
...- I finished to whole lot in one weekend. The big boss at the end is easy once you find a strategy
that works, although the 'Uber-Soldat' baddies are tough enough to cause you a few headaches. There were also places where the nasties leapt out from dark tunnels that really made me jump!
For those that love to play on the Internet, RTCW offers a great multiplay options. For those that have played the Half-Life mod Day Of Defeat will know exactly what to expect.
Playing either the Allies or Axis (Germans), each side has to fight it out against the other in realistic WWII battle scenrios. The great thing about this rendition of the genre is that you really must play as a team to succeed.
This game runs perfectly on lower spec machines (PII 300), but if you crank up the graphics options on a faster PC, you're in for a wild ride...
