...The Cote D'Azur is the term that refers to the French Riviera and encompasses - among others - the three cities Nice, Cannes, and Monaco. The latter is a "Principality", which is self-governed and sovereign from the rest of France. The area is served by Nice Cote D'Azur International Airport, which is approximately 2 hours flight from the UK. Although, this is slightly dependent upon the airport you depart from. Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, and Stansted would all fall into this travel category, where as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester would all be closer to 2 ½ hours travel time. Sunday brunch above the beach - don't feel blue at L'Azure

Advantages: Truly spectacular world class location
Disadvantages: Food is only good, not great

...I booked by email before I left the UK and just as well - it sells out. Unless you are staying there, you can't even get into the Crane Bay Hotel car park, but they let you in if you have a booking for the resturant, even as a non-resident, so that alone would justify it. So, I went. Sunday brunch at a fabulous cliff-top resturant, overlooking one of the 10 best beaches in the world according to 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' magazine. Crane Bay is a beautiful horseshow-shaped flat and sandy beach on the spectacular east coast of Barbados (the Atlantic side) where long breakers roll in. Cambridge Audio AZUR 640A

Advantages: Great design, great price, very well built
Disadvantages: Plastic connectors at the back but no real drawback

...I spent ages looking for a good amp and went to LOADS of different shops looking at them. I must say that the design was up there in importance with the sound then i saw the Cambridge Audio AZUR range. The build quality is amazing, the remote control quality is AMAZING and the blue LED lights on the unit are lush! Obviously the quality that you get from the amp depends on the the speakers and the other devices you have plugged into it but you could not go far wrong with more Cambridge Audio devices. I bought the matching AZUR cd player, which works off the same remote control meaning that you only need to use the one, and as you get one with each device you have one spare incase anything happens. Also, a little tip. If you go into richer sounds to buy it, and want to buy more than one thing at once, such as an AMP and the CD...

Could be read all the way there and back

Advantages: Bit of a ripping yarn
Disadvantages: Way too long

...I was pondering what book to read in the library, and on display for summer holiday reading, was Azur Like It by Wendy Holden. A No.1 Best Seller, apparently, with quite an impressive list of positives on the back cover. At 473 pages, I decided that it must be a good'en, so popped it on the counter to take away with me. I usually only read books at night, before falling asleep, so I was a bit concerned that I may take too long to read this before my expiry date. I was right to be worried! The book did not live up to its reputation. The plot line was too stupid, and the pages leading up to any action dragged. The story is a tale about a young (indiscernible age but presumed to be in her early to mid twenties) female journalist, who is working on a local rag in Slackmucklethwaite, a northern village. The Grandeur of the Cote D'Azur

...I never thought I would one day actually stay in a Hotel in Nice, France. It's not that I do not go regularly to France, quite on contrary, I just never saw anything special about this city. For me, Nice was just the airport or gateway to the world of Cannes, Antibes, Cap Ferrat, and off course, the stunning Monte Carlo. I found it much more interesting to re-discover the sandy shores of Cannes or the minimalist chic style of St Tropez, or the extravagant Moneguesque nightlife. The idea of this chilled out beach was not very appealing when compared to its neighbouring tourist hotspots. Being the self-titled "holiday booking disaster" that I am, I offcourse leave everything to the week previous to my departure and, therefore, must content myself with whatever is available. DAB tuner - BAD move or better?!

Advantages: Possibilty to get huge improvement in sound quality
Disadvantages: May need a proper aerial. May not work in your house.

Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 640T

Quality Home Cinema sound with bargain pricing.

Advantages: Excellent value for money, great sound.
Disadvantages: Some will miss HDMI but see review on this subject.

.... Many surround amps do not do a good job in stereo. The Camridge is just as good as an equally priced stereo amp (so it gives you surround sound for free!!) and way better than all the similarly priced surround amps I've heard. I would buy one tomorrow (but my wife would dis(re)member me) and be happy for a good few years to come, I'm sure. Other reviewers have commented on Cambridge Audio reliability. Sure, the company is UK owned (by a major UK Hi-Fi discount chain, I believe) but the products are manufactured somewhere cheapo in the far east. Quality control is monitored in the UK, though. So, yes, I have seen Cambridge Audio units fail. I have also seen them fixed very quickly and efficiently by Cambridge customer service. But, I have not seen one of these Azur 540 amps fail and judging by its weight - a good indicator in amps - its...

More than a Nice story!

Advantages: Light and humorous, great contrast between the Cote d'Azur and industrial Yorkshire.
Disadvantages: Mild explicit language.

...I'd only read one of Wendy Holden's books before (Country Manors) and although lighter than my usual kind of novel I enjoyed it. So when I was looking for books to take to Nice and came across this one in Waterstone's, it seemed the obvious choice. Very much in the style of "Country Manors", it didn't disappoint me; several times I was caught giggling out loud at parts of it. SETTING The story begins in Slackmucklethwaite, a typical Yorkshire mill town where the big news is the latest talk given to the WI members and the heroine lives with her parents and gran in a semi called Wits' End! It then takes off to the Cote d'Azur, with evocative descriptions of Nice and the surrounding area and in particular the village where the heroine ends up living for a while. Parts of the story involve celebrity spotting at various parties...
