Advantages: Convenient, friendly owners, good breakfast. Disadvantages: A bit pricey
...Last summer I spent a few days in Salcombe after my Mum had booked this place as a birthday present for me. It was my first time in Salcombe so I didn't really know what to expect, but my Mum had been going there for years so I was looking forward to discovering it. The Ria View is run by Peter & Bernice Henesey Smith.
LOCATION:
The Ria View is on Devon Road in Salcombe, Devon. Salcombe is a tiny town on the south coast. The roads to get there are quite windy so take care.

Review of Ria View B&B, Devon
Advantages: Lovely picturesque characteristic accommodation with fantastic potential. Disadvantages: Felt unwelome, food was past its use by date, not as clean as you would expect.
...of dust which had not appeared to be cleaned for while.
In the morning I was hoping to stay a short time longer to have a look around the 7 acre gardens, which seemed to be a big adversing point on all website and was one of the reasons why I choose it in the first place. However, even though I was emailed that check out would be by 11am, the host came in at around 10am and asked if we had had a good sleep. I was hoping for an invite to view the gardens but instead I loaded up the car and could see one of their private guests putting on the garden. After we loaded up, the only ones to see us away were the host's dogs. They were very welcoming and I felt they showed us more hospitality than the owners of Leylands Farm B&B. I am not sure if we would have been made to feel more welcome if we had hired a Jaguar rather than an old banger. Maybe it...
Advantages: Great location, friendly owners, good price, great breakfast, clean rooms Disadvantages: I wish i could spend more time there!
...The Great Barn Maplecroft B&B is situated in Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire only about 7 miles away from Bath.
The family run business is based around a 13th Century Stone Barn, which the owners live in, having restored it from an old deralict shell about 12 years ago.
The B&B itself is an annex off the house and contains 3 rooms, two double and one large family room (2 single beds and a double) all rooms are en-suite and provide coffee and tea making facilities and a TV. The rooms are decorated to an excellent standard and are kept exceptionally clean. Breakfast is served either in the beautiful conservatory (in the summer) or in the dining room (in the winter). You are offered more than enough food to fill yourselves up for the day. Cerals, toast, fruit, then comes the cooked breakfast, certainly one of the tastest i've ever had...
Advantages: Really modern and clean, and friendly staff Disadvantages: Bit pricey
...I recently visited Alton Towers with a group of friends, and living about 3 hours drive away from the park, we decided to drive down the night before, so we could get there early and avoid the queues. (Which worked perfectly, but that is not for this review)
In chosing accommodation, the main criteria was proximity to Alton Towers, and Lower Micklam Farm won. This B and B is located in Alton, which is the nearest village to Alton Towers, (the clue is in the name!!) about a mile from the park. The name 'Farm' is accurate of the related holiday cottages, but the B and B is in the centre of the village, and was formerly a house, rather than a farm. The name is rather quaint though, and as it is a combined business with the holiday cottages, it seems fair that they have retained it.
Alton is a small place, with not much more than a pub...
Advantages: warm, welcoming and inviting hostess; clean and well presented rooms Disadvantages: no full length mirror in our room
...My partner and I have just come back from a long lovely weekend in Bruges. One of the highlights was staying at this wonderful B&B. My partner booked this B&B as a surprise and what a wonderful surprise it was!
Location: Yasmine B&B is in a great location as it's only a few minutes walk from great restaurants (although great restaurants are dotted all over Bruges) and even better only a couple of minutes from some good bars/pubs situated right on the canal. The B&B is about 25 minutes leisurely walk from the train station.
The B&B: This is a small B&B come art Gallery. It hosts 6 bedrooms and the ground floor of the building displays artwork created by the B&B owners daughter. The breakfast area is situated at the back of the gallery area with a small pretty enclosed garden to look out on to.
The Rooms: The rooms are spacious, clean...
Advantages: It is still kicking, but it is really Abbey Disadvantages: Too many
...CIAO REVIEW - DATED 12-02-09
Titled: NO VACANCIES IN THIS B&B
BRADFORD AND BINGLEY
The natural instinct of capitalism is to devour all wounded. No humanistic values matter in the financial sector. Capitalism has hit a ?brick-wall? and now ?new capitalism? has to be re-born for capitalistic markets to be recognised as having any worth. Hence, the lending laws, have been changed along with FISCAL laws along with reviewing financial sectors; whether for it?s worth or basic ethic criteria; No I re-phrase it, cut the ?ethic? part. I?m trying to be not politically correct, but just accurate with my diagnosis. There will be no dancing girls offering you nibbles, nor will there be refreshments as, due to the current downturn. In fact Bradford and Bingley (B&B) are not even classified as a financial dwelling. They are in fact trading, but are...
Advantages: Beautiful Location, Good Price, Great Bar Disadvantages: A little way outside of Betws-Y-Coed
...A couple of months ago my wife and I decided to go away for a couple of days over the first May bank holiday weekend. Usually this would entail a trip to a far flung European city but as she would have just returned from a 4 day business trip to Malta, we thought a UK trip would be better. Thanks to a suggestion from one of my wife's colleagues, we decided that we would find a B&B and go and climb Snowdon. Having spoken to my parents, they and my sister had decided that they would like to come too.
Unfortunately, this plan was slightly harder than we had anticipated as most B&Bs in the region were only allowing stays for the entire three days of the weekend and we were only wanting 2 nights. However, after much searching, just as we about to give up, we came across the Swallow Falls hotel which would allow us the two night stay and was...
Advantages: A reasonable price for Finland, great breakfast, very clean and comfortable Disadvantages: Rooms are quite small, lack of parking spaces may be a problem for some
...This bed and breakfast is situated close to the bus station and just five minutes walk from the very centre of town. We arrived in Turku by train and walked the route in ten minutes so the location is good yet still quiet.
Look hard, it's not easy to spot. The doorway looks like all the doorways on the block which is full of shops and offices. There is an entry buzzer to let you in; once you check in you'll have a key for this door. The B and B is up a couple of flights and there's no lift. It's not too bad but people with mobility problems should be aware of this.
We hadn't booked in advance but there was a room available. We were checked in without fuss and while the owner wasn't effusive she was friendly enough. The bedrooms are off the main corridor as are the shared shower rooms. This does mean a certain amount of noise as...
Advantages: Amazing levels of service, brilliant breakfasts, comfortable high quality rooms. Central location Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...Tell some people that you?re staying in a ?B&B? and they?ll secretly conjure up mental images of Blackpool landladies locking you out after 9.30 pm.
Mercifully, this now only happens on cartoon postcards.
The B&B I?ve just spent two nights at, in the centre of Norwich fully deserves the accolade of ?best place I?ve stayed at in Britain in a very long while? ? not so much a lodgings as a luxury hotel with no dinner menu.
Well, actually it?s better than that. How many luxury hotels would allocate one of the owners to look after you?
I?m not alone in thinking this ? many accommodation and travel web-sites such as Tripadvisor now list reviews of the 38 St Giles B&B describing it as ?the best place to stay in Norwich?, and it?s not the most expensive by a considerable margin.
Situated at 38, St Giles (the clue?s in the name...
Advantages: Cosy, friendly staff, excellent facilities Disadvantages: Not the cheapest B&B in the Lake District
...When we decided to go to Ambleside for a few nights we originally planned to go camping, as our trip approached we were a bit unsure about how good the weather would be and at the last moment did a search for a cheap B&B. The Old Vicarage at Ambleside wasn't the cheapest of the B&Bs we found in our search, however it definitely stood out as somewhere we both wanted to stay. At £45 per night each it was a little more expensive than we'd planned (bearing in mind we had originally wanted to go camping) however it was well worth the money!
Arriving in Ambelside we were pleased to discover the B&B wasn't slap bang in the middle of this busy, bustling tourist destination. While we did need to drive through the centre the B&B itself was down a quieter road which was ideal for us. The car park itself was fairly compact and not...
