Marriott County Hall, London
Review of London Marriott Hotel County Hall, London by
ged1967
Advantages: Central location, friendly attentive staff
Disadvantages: expensive drinks
...We had our civil partnership ceremony in this hotel April 2006. The hotel is in the old Greater London Council building. As you can imagine this building was very grandoise when it was the GLC. Marriott have kept the wood panneling, oil paintings and ambiance of the time.
Our ceremony was held in The Library with great views over the River Thames toward The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. Our wedding breakfast was in The Parliament Suite on the 5th floor with stunning views over the Thames and as it got dark and the lights started twinkling the view was unforgettable.
Rooms are a bit expensive £175 b&b (standard room) £204 b&b (riverview room) We paid for a riverview room and were upgraded to the honeymoon suite free of charge!
We had a very specific menu in mind; Haggis, neeps, tatties as a starter with roast beef, yorkies...

London in Bits and Bobs
Review of London (England) by
BawBaw
Advantages: One of the world's great cosmopolitan centers
Disadvantages: So much city . . . so little time
...and our political heritage. London is familiar in the way your parents' hometown is familiar. It beacons with the promise to reveal truths that are already half known.
For all that she is and all that we are, London is a city to make one's own-remembering always that in doing so, it is often necessary to subordinate one's personal will to her rules.

The Cumberland Hotel - Marble Arch, London
Review of London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, London by
Elaina18
Advantages: Right in the heart of London - off Oxford Street, good facilities
Disadvantages: Expensive. Room features, car parking, congestion charge
...I stayed for a business conference/exhibition - the company managed to negotiate a deal for £130 B&B delegate rate - but was quoted £195!!!
Advantages
- in the heart of London, next to Oxford Street
- Excellent internal decoration - great foyer
- Very modern bedrooms/decoration
- Gary Rhodes Restaurant on site - I've eaten here before - great food but expensive/over rated!
- Great bar
- Great Business facilities - conference rooms/facilities
- Multi-lingual staff
- Great breakfast (again expensive if you were buying it separately)
- Lots of rooms - plenty of availability
Disadvantages
- Expensive! But this is what you expect for a London 4 star hotel - try and get an internet deal/last minute booking or if you are travelling on business a company deal
- Room decor -
a) safety green light in the bedroom - what a nightmare!!!! You...

OH BROTHER!
Review of Channel 4 - Big Brother by
lawrensons
Advantages: real life
Disadvantages: too real life?
...now that big brother has finally come to an end the question that needs to be asked is what happens next? Will there be another one - will it have the same impact?
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about - BB is a game show/fly on the wall documentary of a house in East London that has been home to 10 people whose lives have been watched 24/7 my the British public.
I sometimes wonder about our tv culture. Where did it all start? How did we get to Big Brother - we are seeing a huge increase in shows of "different" styles of entertainment that focus in poeple in real life situations - Castaways 2000 is a classic example. This program is suppossed to be for psychological research but they wouldn't have been able to do it if it hadn't been aired. Then came BB - a show that will go down in the histroy books of Barry Norman...

Excellent quality budget choice
Review of Express By Holiday Inn London Royal Docks - Docklands, London by
C.Laslett
Advantages: Excellent Value, Close Proximity to London Underground Station
Disadvantages: None
...When looking for a low-budget hotel close to the city for a group of 5 family members, we chose to stay at the Royal Docklands HI Express. This hotel was much better than expected and represents excellent value for money, with rooms starting from just £50, including breakfast.
Rooms can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children so £50 B&B for a family of 4 is amazing value! For best rates, try to book online (www.holidayinn.co.uk) and at least 14 days in advance. During my stay, rack rates were being advertised at £160 so booking upfront is most definately essential. ba
The hotel is easy to get to, much easier than I first thought it would be. Canning Town Tube Station (Jubilee Line / DLR) is a short couple of minutes walk across the road - you can actually see the station from the hotel entrance. Services to central London take...

COCKNEY SLANG,JELLIED EELS AND RED BUSES
Review of London in general by
KarmababyUK
Advantages: Great day/break away. Lots of sights, lots of history, lots to do
Disadvantages: The queen lives here
...the gap logo t shirts available on London market stalls! My advice is get a tube map and your sorted, also if your making more than one journey in a day it may be advisable to get an all day pass, mine worked out at around £4 for 2 main zones and was worth every penny…cram as much sight seeing in as you can on one of these tickets!
ACCOMODATION
I don’t have a whole lot of info on this matter due to the fact that my accommodation was payed for as part of my job. The big hotels generally seem to be in the West End near to all of the tourist attractions for eg Hilton,Continental etc. Looking at holiday brochures they avarerage at around £50 per night B+B. A lot of other residents stayed in our lodgings over the summer. I stayed at City Universities halls of residence in Barbican. The other residents payed £18 a night for B+B, the rooms are very...

Superb London Budget Hotel
Review of Ashley Hotel, London by
sandrabarber
Advantages: Beautiful setting in a buzzing part of London
Disadvantages: Not suitable for disabled people - no lift
...The Ashley Hotel is a superb, well-priced B&B hotel in a gorgeous location in central London. It is situated in Norfolk Square, Paddington, and is just 2 minutes walk from Paddington station.
Paddington itself is a buzzing district of London adjacent to the West End, and is packed full of shops, restaurants, bars etc. Norfolk Square is an oasis of tranquility amongst this. It is a square (obviously) of tall, elegant Victorian mansions, all of which have been turned into budget hotels.
The hotels are painted white and cream, and have tall windows and beautiful old railings outside. In the centre of them all is a railed garden. Obviously, it was once a place of residence for people of means in the Upstairs-Downstairs tradition. The Ashley Hotel comprises 3 mansions made into one, and has 50 (I think) rooms.
The reception is well...

"Cheap" accomadation in London
Review of European Hotel, London by
StereoMike1983
Advantages: Simple B+B
Disadvantages: Room was by smokers courtyard
...are trying to save for a new house at the minute), or the only rooms available were miles away from the function room.
It was therefore decided that we would stay in a B+B and after much browsing, I decided on this one, close to Kings Cross station. It appeared cheap (by London standards!) and was very close to the station, a huge advantage as we needing this to get around.
We arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon and although the receptionist seemed a little bored, he was friendly enough and we soon found our room. If I had to sum it up in one word then that word would have to be, BASIC! Considering that we have probably paid less for 3* or 4* rooms in other cities then the £55 I paid for this was a waste of money as we has two single beds, a small bathroom and a couple of bathrooms. I was slightly frustrated as I was certain that I had...

When all you want is a bed for the night
Review of Custom House Hotel, London by
trevorbrock
Advantages: Good price; easy access from DLR
Disadvantages: It is not the Hilton !
...London is awash with hotels and B&B's.
But having tried quite a lot of them - our capital city ought to be ashamed of many of them.
The Custom House Hotel is one to be proud of, especially in the popular 3* sector of the market.
1 LOCATION
=
If you use the London Docklands Light Railway - DLR - then the Custom House stop is where to alight.
You will see the hotel right beside the station entrance.
And just in case that sounds like noisy, bad news, do not worry - I never heard a train all night.!
This is a location right in the heartland of London's dockland renewal area. Within a short distance are the exhibition hall - ExceL, Canary Wharf, and the Royal Victoria Docks.
If you are visiting or working in the centre of London, the train takes about 15 minutes.
If you arrive in the London City Airport, you are just a 5 minute...

BIG BONG
Review of Big Ben, London by
Robertpowles
Advantages: Hearing Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament
Disadvantages: Not open to the general public
...connected to Broadcasting House.
There are cells within the clock tower where members of Parliament could be imprisoned for breach of parliamentary privilege. The last recorded case was in 1880. Although, it's a wonder the cells aren't full with the way they act nowadays, but that's another story altogether!!
It's not actually open to the general public, but if you have a "special interest", you may arrange a visit to the top of the clock tower through your local (UK) MP.
Well, I hope you have found this information interesting, and enjoy your visit to BB!
