Easy for babies to feed themselves

Advantages: Wide range of accessories and long lasting
Disadvantages: More expensive than others

...If you read my op on the steam steriliser you would know that I went for Avent due to the reputation and awards they have received. Most bottles on the market are generally taller and thinner than these therefore, when the time comes for the babies to start holding the bottles themselves, it would be easier for them to use these. Reason... if you think about it, the bottle is fatter so there is more to grip hold of and because they are also shorter, the baby would not need to tip the bottle so far up and back to be able to finish the end of the bottle. They are more expensive compared to others but thats just natural. It's like buying labelled clothing to just plain clothes from a high street store. Avent is a well known brand name and as I said before, they have won many awards so bound to be slightly more expensive. Saying that...

baby feeding bottles.... i'm so disappointed

Advantages: easy to clean
Disadvantages: leaking and prone to cracking

...i started bottle feeding my little girl at about 8 weeks old. She was very happy on the breast but as i had to prepare both myself and her for my return to work i started introducing the occassional bottle feed. She took to the Avent wide neck bottle instantly. She was quite obviously very happy with the flow and the teat. However, as she got a little older and i had returned to work she was put onto the bottle for all her day feeds. Due to the increased use of the bottles i began to realise that it wasn't just a the odd time that the bottle would leak from the neck when making up the feeds, but the bottles often had to be undone and done up again 4, 5, or even 6 times before the top of the bottle would seal to the neck. I just looked upon this as a slight design fault that i could live with as long as i remembered to shake...

Review of Avent Feeding Bottles

Best Bottles Available

Advantages: Babies actually seem to like them, easy to clean, lots of accessories available so they can last you for many years
Disadvantages: none

...I started using Avent bottles with my son, George, he was breastfed but I used the Avent breast pump (which you can attached directly to the feeding bottle) to express off some milk. I started him getting used to a bottle early (2 weeks old) he took to the bottle straight away. These bottles are apparently like sucking from the breast for a baby and George certainly had no problems. You can buy all sorts of accessories to use with the bottles, ie different flow rates of teat, from slow flow suitable for breastfed babies (as breastfed babies can get addicted to bottles and go off the breast as the bottle is easier to get the milk from!) training spouts and also the new magic cup which the lid will fit directly onto the bottle (like the anyway up cup, with no spills, except you can actually get the liquid out without sucking excessively...

Avent Bottles

Advantages: Look like a bottle
Disadvantages: Can leak

...In my opinion Avent bottles look like a bottle should and have excellent wear and tear value. I prefer the look of the Avent bottle compare to the tommie tippie (closer to nature) bottles as the tommie tippie teats look too natural and I am sure thats the point but I like a bottle to look like a bottle. The Avent bottle wash well in the dishwasher, however you might not want to wash them with plates or saucepans that have just cooked Bolognese or curry as they do stain the color of the teats and lids. They can leak from time to time, so make sure before you set off that you check it first otherwise you might end up with milk all over the place. These bottle also work really well with the Avent pump. Just screw on and go. The teats also come in different sizes for thicker liquids or hungrier babies. These are not cheap at around £4...

Hitting The Bottle!

Advantages: cheaper than Avent
Disadvantages: a few things...

...closer to nature and this is because they have a super soft silicone teat that is said to resemble to breast as much as possible. This I suppose would be very handy if you were breast feeding as well as bottle feeding and perhaps expressing your own milk and using one of these bottles would make it much less confusing for the baby being fed. I however have not breast fed at all so the fact that they are said to be as close to a breast as possible really has no affect on me or on baby jack. These bottles can be used from birth and have an easy hold design that I expect is meant for the child rather than the parent. The shape of the bottle merely has a smaller bit in which to hold on to and this I think would be good for when the child is able to feed themselves. Review of Tommee Tippee Feeding Bottle

BEST BOTTLES EVER MADE

Advantages: Very strong, easy to clean
Disadvantages: None

...for the bottles handy for the mashed up food, or just to cover till you're ready for the teats to go on. They are a little more expensive than others but they are well worth it, in 4 years I've bought 3 sets of these bottles I really didn't need to replace the others just wanted to. They have a wide neck for easy filling, Comfy to hold, Clear markings in fl and ml, they are very tough and durable, they have a special design to let air into the bottle and not into the baby's mouth. The other handy thing is you can buy them almost anywhere even the supermarkets. The down side is when you buy new bottles they all come with slow flow teats, If your child's on say fast flow, you have to buy the pack of fast flow teats separately. But above all the best. I also find them easy to read as the measurements are large and clear on the sides...

Miracle bottles

Advantages: No wind, no ear infections, no colic, teats don't collapse, doesn't contain Bisphenol A
Disadvantages: Bit of a hassle to clean, the price

...in and the top of the bottles with a toothbrush. I clean the bottle with the big bottle brush and I clean the vacum part and the long tube with the special little brush that comes with the bottles. I then put them in the microwave for 5 minutes and thats it job done. I personally then put boiled water (5 ounces as that's what my baby is on) into the bottles and leave the water to cool in them and just add the milk powder when my baby wants feeding. No cooling down and warming up etc. The bottles have a temperature guide on the tube bit which goes pink if the bottles are too hot (anything above room temperature). Unfortunately the temperature guide is not on the outside of the bottle but on the tube right in the middle of the milk which means you have to turn the bottle upside down to see it! But never mind, I don't really use...

...Thermos Baby Bottle Warmer by Fisher Price I love to be out and about with Jack and I think lots of fresh air helps him have a much better nights sleep. I am especially trying t walk off all that excess baby weight that I have put on but I have been finding feeding fairly difficult if I am just out for a walk. It is not too bad doing a feed if I have gone out to a restaurant or somewhere where they can give me a jug of boiling water so I can drop his bottle in but if I am out walking and he gets hungry then I was really stuck for what to do until that is I came across this thermos flask. I was browsing items on Amazon that I could spend some vouchers that I had received and that is when I came across this. Fisher price have made a thermos flask that is pretty much the same as any thermos you would usually get but instead...

Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles didn't work for us

Advantages: Easy to clean, comfortable to hold
Disadvantages: Shape of the teet made it difficult for my baby to use

...I originally bought the Tommee Tippee closer to nature steriliser which came with the baby feeding bottles supplied "just incase" breast feeding didn't work out. I was attracted by the idea that they were supposed to be closer to the natural shape and flex of a breast, and the anti colic valve. The bottles were pretty much equivalent in price the the other brand name baby bottles but considerably more expensive than generic "own brand" bottles. In any event unfortunately I did end up breast feeding and ended up buying more TT bottles. My daughter is still not the best feeder (6 weeks old now) and she really struggled with these bottles. The shape of the teet (the dome shaped base of the teet) made it very difficult for her to make a seal around it which made feeds very messy and fairly windy (despite the anti colic valve). ...avent bottles in my opinion are the best around,ive tried several other bottles and teats but avent are the only ones that dont leak all over me and the baby and that he enjoys drinking from. compared to all the other leading brands i find these are definatley the best around andthey cost about the same as all the other brands so i would go for these every time. they come in two sizes 125 ml and 260 ml and are sold in most places and you can get replacement teat sfor them too. they are ok value for money but could be cheaper i think there about 8.00 for two but you only need a few so doesnt come to too much they also fit in the brest pumps so it makes it esier if your expressing milk and for easy storage. overall very good and would def recommend to anyone....
