The straighteners are not solid ceramic but ceramic coated, apparently; "The plates are ceramic coated as you cannot have solid ceramic plates that reach a temperature of 110oC as they are likely to crack." And of course the 230's go up to 230 degrees (10 temperature settings - 150 to 230 degrees C). (The cordless has only 5 temperature settings). I was worried about this coming off as my Wigo ones definitely look worn. I emailed Babyliss and they said "The coating on the ceramic would not come off under normal circumstances. If it should you could contact us to arrange repair or replacement under the terms of the guarantee." Well that's good then! ...when i purchased babyliss, they were my first hair straightners, but this was almost 4years ago now. Since this i have attempted many straightners till finally settling upon my futura and ghd's branded straightners. I would not reccomend these straightners to any prospective buyer with thick hair as they do not have the strength with which to tackle frizz or curls. On the other hand the straightners would not necessarily be effective for the thin hair either as whilst the straightners have the strength, they may not be good for your hair. The metal plates tend to pull at your hair as they straighten, and the steam attractions are not as effective as they seem. The straightners do however apear to have some small, but mainly insignificant benefits for the user, especially if planning to use on small areas of hair... Read review

...I would like to review BaByliss You Curl Styler from my point of view (read: point of view of person who has got big problems with making any hairdo, with very heavy looking hair). I'm not going to tell you all technical stuff about it, I'll just simply explain if…and how it works. Since I remember my hair has always looked a bit messy and trust me, I take a lot care of my hair, I spend quiet lot of money each month on all kinds of conditioners, anti frizz serums etc. but that seems not to be enough. I spend also quite lot of time trying to make any hairstyle. I tried all kind of hair stylers, many hair straighteners- few of them just didn't work on my hair at all as they were too thick. ...I bought my wife a set of these straighteners for her birthday last month - she had been telling me for weeks how good the GHD straighteners are, but as they are so expensive I was under no circumstances to buy a set. I did my homework and compared the specifications of more than a dozen different straighteners. I quickly came to the conclusion that the critical part of the specification to ensure that the user gets 'salon performance' is the temperature and that for the performance to compete with that of the GHD straighteners the temperature had to be in excess of 200 degrees. What drew me to The BaByliss 2099U total freedom straighteners was the added benefit that they are detachable and can be used anywhere. ...I dont normally by Babyliss so was quite cautious at first, these have been one of the best products i've bought this year. Bought these hair straighteners due to my Remington straighteners going faulty. They are easy to use and the gold ceramic plates make my hair smooth, sleek and shiny. The Variable temperature helps and is viewed on the top arm of the straighteners making it easy to maintain the correct setting. The buttons though are easy to catch, changing the temperature when you dont realise your doing it. One downside to this product is that it doesn't contain a protective bag for it to be stored in, so ended up using my Remington bag. Overall though an exceptional product and i would definately buy Babyliss again.... Read review

...Being someone with naturally straight hair anyway, I knew I didn’t want to spend an awful lot of money. All I wanted it to do was to give my hair that extra boost and because I am a full-time mum, my hair sometimes gets in my way and I have to either put it up or at least tuck it behind my ears so needed a quick fix solution before I dash out for an occasion. I originally wanted to buy this from Argos but seeing the queue put me off so went to Boots instead knowing that it would probably be slightly more expensive. I was right, it was priced at £24.75, £1 more than Argos but then I earned enough advantage points so that made up for it. ...I bought a pair of these straighteners last year in the summer as my old ones blew up. i have been through at least 4 pairs of straightners in the last 2 years so i wanted some that would last but straighten my hair aswell. most of the ones on the markets dont do the job for me as i have naturally curly and very thick hair. the ones that do, come with an outrageous price tag. i have had babyliss straightners before which of their time were very good, and i had seen these straightners in the shops so i thought id give them a try. especially with them being thermaglass rather than ceramic. the straightners i have do have a variable temperature control on them, unlike the ones in the picture, which is very useful. this enables you to suit your hair type to the heat temp, creating maximum results. as a hairdresser i know which heat... ...I first tried these curlers when I went on a night out. I had left mine at home, so I borrowed the Babyliss 2290AU off a friend. I must admit, I do have a bit of a 'love hate' relationship with them. I have medium length hair which is thick, so I liked the way they have a long ceramic coated barrel and I also liked the defined spiral guide on the barrel, which made curling easier. The curling tongs looks good, are simple to use and have ten different settings, making it suitable for most hair types (and good for thick hair). It comes with sectioning clips which were useful in managing my hair, and it is mains operated, so no having to worry about replace energy cells.
