...I have to say I was somewhat of a late-comer to the world of hair straighteners. I was quite intrigued by them in the salons I frequented but having seen the price tags of GHD hair straighteners which I was repeatedly told were THE brand to buy, I was somewhat put off. After all, having never needed hair straighteners before could I justify a £100+ price tag for something I may never or infrequently use? This in mind, (& having tried a 'cheap' set of straighteners which my mum had bought & abandoned in the back of a cupboard...) Babyliss Pro 230 Straightener - fantastic pair of straighteners!

Advantages: Easy to use, heat up quickly, heat mat, three heat settings
Disadvantages: Can't think of any really!

...I had had my old Remington straighteners for a couple of years, so the other day I decided it was time for new ones. I bought these Babyliss Pro 230 Straighteners for £36.39 (half price in Argos). The straighteners come with a little bag with a divider in the middle to keep the cord and plug away from the hot straighteners when you pack them away. It also comes with a heat mat which is ideal for resting your straighteners on in case you damage something. The four hair dividing clips are handy too! The straighteners are so easy to use. There are three heat settings, I use the hottest as my hair is quite thick. The straighteners heat up really quickly, approx 30 seconds. My hair is quite short in areas and I find it easy to use on shorter hair as well as the longer bits. I wish I had invested in a new pair of straighteners...

...Okay I'd just like to say I don't actually own this product but I'm going to soon. This is not a review as such but rather information about Babyliss 230 Straighteners and the cordless variety. I asked Babyliss some questions by email as I was unsure of the differences between the 2 models and some other general questions about both. The models are: - BaByliss 2085U Pro 230°C Straighteners (£35 amazon) (also available in pink) - BaByliss 2099U Total Freedom 230 Cordless Straightener (£30 amazon) (clip-on cord included also) The cord (3m) on both is a swivel cord, I think some straighteners had a problem with no-swivel cords breaking, and also I'm sure they are easier to use. I thought I would share this info to save others from bothering/bothering Babyliss - they were very nice in their answers, and there were a lot of questions...

Am I Turned On?

Advantages: Tames my hair.
Disadvantages: Turning them off is too easy.

...When my last straighteners eventually died from overuse I had two options--turn into a hermit and never leave the house again due to permanent bad hair days or fork out some money and buy a new pair. Needless to say I thought the second was a more practical option so I started searching around for a suitable replacement. I told her that my sister's wedding was coming up and I'd really like to take control of my hair so that it looked half decent for the photographs. She washed and trimmed my hair as normal and then added some l'Oreal Protective Hair Serum. Only a small amount, about the size of a grape. This was stroked in from the roots downwards and the hair then blow dryed until it was completely dry. Taking out a slim pair of black ceramic straighteners she then gently ran the blades down the top layer of hair from about half way down, where the kinks start, to the ends. She hardly pressed the straighteners on to the hair at all and the whole process was extremely quick and totally painless. My hair felt extremely soft afterwards, appeared very straight...

Review of Remington Ceramic Straighteners

Babyliss pro 230 still great after years!

Advantages: Lasted forever, good price, straighten brilliantly
Disadvantages: No safety temperature gage, not good for curling

...I'm not sure if these are even still available for sale. However, i purchased my pair of these straighteners 3 years ago and they are still going strong, they heat up super fast, and have an adjustable temperature gage which i especially like to use if i'm using them to curl my hair. If you are looking for a straightener to act as your curler i wouldn't necessarily suggest these; although they are great straighteners they have a wide ceramic plate which really only gets a loose fat curl, which is fine just for a soft day look but i tend to use hot rollers if i want a proper curl. They are fabric along the top of the ceramics which means you can hold them for longer without burning your hands off! They also have a long cable so you can stretch them quite far. The one criticism i would say is that the temperature gage doesn't switch it...

You can now buy them for £25 on Ukhairdresser.com, which is an absolute bargain. * The look and features * Babyliss Pro 1½ inch Pivot Straighteners are red with black trims and buttons. There's the on and off button and an up and a down buttons for controlling the temperature. The ceramic plates are 1 ½ inch and black. They do look smaller than my other straighteners but they are actually the same size. There are 6 different temperatures that you can set it on. 150°, 170°, 185°, 200°, 215° and 230°. ...I owned pair of non-ceramic Babyliss straighteners about 5 years ago and wasn't very impressed. However, as these were ceramic and had a decent max temperature, I thought I'd give it ago. I also didn't want to pay the price of a GHD pair. The straighteners were on special for £40 (at Superdrug). I also had a 10% discount voucher from a previous purchase at the shop, so it seemed like a good deal. The straighteners came with a heatproof travel bag and hair grips. The straighteners are very quick to heat up (about 30 seconds). The plates are also a good size - long so you can get round your head quickly, but not too wide.
