...While awaiting inspiration for a new review, I remembered that this one was overdue for an update. Although I rewrote it a year or so ago for Dooyoo, to include selected items from handbag reviews posted over there, I never got round to revising the Ciao version. So here it is. All the articles mentioned appeared in reviews by women on one site or the other. * What have I in my handbag? I mustn't tell you lies; In truth the only bags I own Are those beneath my eyes. You don't need special insight, No expertise in rockets, To guess that, being just a man, I keep stuff in my pockets. But if I now said: "Nothing! So there, and that?s your lot!" Review of What's in my bag?

Swan 1800 watt bagless upright vacuum cleaner.

Advantages: powerful, robust,
Disadvantages: tacky onboard tools, difficult to clean top filter,scratches wood flooring.

...Purchased this from catalogue as a replacement for my 6 yr old Dyson. Overall the hoover is fairly robust. The extra wide slim brush bar is handy especially for getting under edges of furniture. It does its job. I found the powercord to be shorter than expected and have to change plug sockets fom room to room. Its awkward to clean out the filter especially the top one due to not been able to get your hand in to grab the leftover fluff etc which is remaining after emptying and tends to blog up your filter quickly during use, causing loss of suction. This needs to be checked often especially if you have a moulting dog, causing it to build up rapidly. The onboard tools are handy though slightly small and tacky. The turbine brush which clips into the handle is also robust and very powerful,it can be used by attaching onto the hose to clean...

...I received a DVD in a jiffy bag recently opened the bag carefully and put the bag ready to reuse with about 20 other old jiffy bags I have ready for recycling. Actually I am not sure that all of them are genuine jiffy bags but they are the same sort of thing. Jiffy bags made by Jiffy have been available for several years now I think they go back to the 1950?s. Jiffy bags are handy padded envelope bags that can be bought in a variety of sizes some as small as to 164 x 285mm, then several sizes upwards to 247 x 387mm, probably even larger ones available. The original bag is a golden brown heavy duty paper. The padded filling can be as simple as shredded paper. Vax V006 turboforce upright vacuum cleaner

Advantages: bagless, long flexible pipe attached, very long lead, good at getting up pet hairs
Disadvantages: cleaning filter, noisy, overheats

...This cleaner arrived in a box in three pieces, the instructions were not very clear but the pieces were simple enouch to work out how they should be assembled. On first use the main thing noticed was the noise, this is not a quiet vacuum for when the children are in bed. The turboforce and rotating brushes were brilliant at lifting the pile and picking up the pet hairs, fantastic i thought, but shame abouth the sound. The cable is very long so from one room to the next it is very easy to move without having to relocate the power supply. All was well although with such good pick up the waste container was soon ready for emptying. This can be a messy task as the filter needs taking out and manually tapping until it is clear of debris. Advantages: Space Saving Ideas for Home and Abroad
Disadvantages: None I can think of

...I love this idea, whoever thought this up is a genius. A lot of families have storage problems my main pain in the backside is lack of room for excess bedding that i keep spare for guests and what not, So this is magnificent, how the air can be sucked out of the bag with any pipe vacuum cleaner and reduce the size of package to less than a quarter of the size. Brilliant for duvets and pillows i might add and to top it all off it keeps all those bugs away and when you do unpack them they smell as good as the day you washed them and put the items in there. Excellent I would rate these to anybody you can even use them for going abroad and storing your much loved items and reducing space which we all know must happen when traveling on a plane think of the goodies you can bring back !! Review of Vacuum Storage Bags

Hoover Dustmanager Bagless Upright Cleaner.

Advantages: Extra long stair hose.
Disadvantages: Short flex.

...This hoover looks great but Im a little disappointed with it. The flex is shorter than an old hoover model that broke down after 11yrs of service. The handle seems shorter. Also you can't feel the suction from the front of the cleaner, I know im comparing it with the old model but I can't help it. The tools are in an inconvenient place at the back of the hoover because it make's it difficult to reattach the hose after stair cleaning. ( They get in the way). The bagless cassette you empty is small and for a larger house needs emptying at least twice. I have a black lab and we get alot of dog hair's i found it annoying not only emptying the cassette but also the pull out filter as it got clogged up with dog hair's , I accidently sucked up a grape and found that in the filter and not in the cassette , so watch you don't hoover up...

Oreck Upright XL

Advantages: Very light weight and small.
Disadvantages: Spares have to be shipped from America, gets blocked up easily, can't cope with too much dirt, hard to take appart for repairs, bag hard to change,

..., they built up so quickly that it was hard to unwind them. It was also quite difficult taking the cleaner appart and putting it back together again. Because of the build up of hairs, the vacuum didn't clean as well and we had to take the thing to pieces after use to clean it nearly every time. The bags were also difficult to remove and put back on and were not very large so filled very quickly. Eventually the vacuum became ineffiecient and the rubber belt snapped. It took ages for the new one to arrive because the company is based in America, but it did get to us eventually. However, it was difficult to get the old one off and the new one on. We soon gave up on the Oreck and purchased a new and better (although a lot heavier!) vacuum cleaner. My Grandmother now has the Oreck, which she find very useful as she has just one cat, ie. very few...

PROBABLY THE MOST POWERFUL UPRIGHT VACUUM CLEANER

Advantages: effective cleaning of carpets and upholstery etc.
Disadvantages: At 8.6kg slightly on the heavy side if you need to carry it about.

...Mr Muscle Window & Glass: I have huge windows in my flat; now I'm not complaining the quality of natural light in my living is fantastic thanks to the 9' window but window cleaning is a pain, (no pun intended). I have searched high and low in my quest to find a cheap but good window cleaner but every time I come back to good old Mr Muscle Window & Glass. Many of you will no doubt be familiar with the clear plastic spray bottles full of bright green liquid which for me have been ruined with the 'beefing up' of Mr Muscle from Geek to Super Hero! If you are a serious musician, and you keep in practice, you will probably prefer the Steinway. This has a firm touch, giving an experienced player a wider dynamic range and range of expression. The Boston is identical, but about half the price of the Steinway, and has a lighter touch. The largest Yamaha upright is also identical, and has a lighter touch than the Boston. It is between a quarter and a third of the price of the Steinway. Used Steinways and Bostons are rather difficult to locate, and if they have been reconditioned it is important to establish who has done the work, as a used piano is only as good as the technician...
